When she returns to Israel after being crowned - she reveals to journalists that she was born male - inciting a scandal that ultimately leads to the rabbinate-in-charge accepting that a miracle had occurred and changing the laws so that trans women are now religiously recognized as women and may use the Mikvah (ritual bath) (if post op) and vice versa for trans men - and otherwise participate in religious and civic life fully as their identified gender without obstruction.

But israel already allows you to have a legal gender marker change, actually I'm pretty sure you just have full civic participation already and FFS paid for by the state. I don't see why a trans women would need to observe niddah laws when she doesn't menstruate anyway

As for caring what the Rabbinate says: who really cares, I'm not of the belief that the orthodox or the rabbinate have some monopoly over true judaism. You could find a reform or masorti synagogue that would be trans affirming without too much difficulty

the rabbinate will recognize you if you have it performed outside the country (this also applies to mixed religious faith marriages which are similarly illegal in Israel)
