I do it by the feel of it, I've been shaving for near 15 years now so it isn't a hassle. The biggest hurdle was to find the best razor to do the shaving with, some razors would accidentally and suddenly peel the top portion of the skin and a few times I took off a good decent slice off the top of my head with different razors.
