Raven-anon here to direct you to the Raven Cycle. Four books, complete, three more books, also complete, gayness quotient increasing sequentially. Contemporary fantasy largely largely set in a rural town. Just be mindful that casual girlies with low media literacy think it's meandering and low on plot (both of these are wrong) and that book one tries to fool you into thinking it's about the straight couple (it isn't). This is one of the ur-texts of well executed slow burn and not sexytime in the least.
It's funny to me that these don't show up on the goodreads list of gay books.

The Captive Prince author has another series that's more like a plot with some gay elements than gay kinks with a plot bolted on, but I don't think it's finished yet, so you can't read it.

There is also the meme Raven companion series the Foxhole Court (because they both have one book with the same title and both have a central gay pairing). It's much soapier and a bit camp-edgy for a series about a fictional sports team, but it was readable enough.

Correcting myself: Foxhole Court is book 1, while All for the Game is the series name. But really, the way people invoke these two series together is nutty. One of them is like a faberge egg of homolust and the other is a series of events starring some edgelords.

As for canonical literary fiction, personally, I've always enjoyed reading the Sound and the Fury and Absalom, Absalom with mild prescription subtext glasses on for Quentin and for his and his dad's takes on the relationship between Henry and Charles Bon.

i second captive prince anon as well as raven boys anon. they're very different but good in their own ways. I enjoyed the sequel trilogy to raven boys, but it's also a tonal shift.

i'd also recommend Scum Villain Self Saving System if you like fantasy. there's art and it's by Vellinxi, the person who draws Countdown to Countdown. go read about chinese gay guys who ride on flying swords.

if you want good concluded gay comics, Starfighter's done.

Next month is Short Box Comics Fair which always has really good complete gay comics. Last year's best entry was Blade of the Fane imo. IDK if it is for sale, but if you look around you may be able to find it.
