When I was a child about 8 years old, after I had seen a few anatomy diagrams and spent weeks with a mirror in the bathroom, convinced that somehow I was a hermaphrodite, despite not knowing that this was a thing, or very little knowledge of it. My endo has speculated AIS for me but we don't have high hopes for genetic testing confirming it. It's incredibly unreliable.
There's another test that requires you to inject testosterone once (or use another steroid very short term) and get SHBG levels day of and again 1 week out. Testosterone suppresses SHBG levels; people with AIS show a muted response to that challenge.
My endo looked a little concerned that I'd bring that up, but if other testing doesn't answer I'm gonna find someone willing to do that test. I want answers dammit! If 20+ years of testosterone couldn't make a man out of me I doubt 1 week will.
