Because leftist politics is only fun when it's done as an intellectual exercise.
You and your other middle class college educated yuppies can go to a trendy boba shop and discuss why communism is the most moral ideology, and how you can achieve it.
Actually living it, and examining the real outcomes, is just suffering and dysfunction.
>>41445929
It also enables a huge amount of people who basically have zero responsibilities and can vote for even more dysfunctional policies and hamstring anything that boosts supply
In cities with massive rent control there is a literal boomer activist class who oppose all new construction because tall buildings is gentrification or some shit, whose lives are completely and utterly subsidized by young people and professionals paying absurd market rates. A literal parasite class
did anyone see the AI ad that cuomo put up last night showing black shoplifters wearing keffiyehs and black pimps in purple suits burning down the city?
I concede rent control sucks. What's the solution to bringing rent back down to a reasonable amount? It really should be no more than a fifth of minimum wage full time to have a studio, anywhere. Building more housing doesn't fucking work because it constantly ends up being luxury or elderly or requiring arcane government programs to access.
>>41445984 >there is a literal boomer activist class who oppose all new construction because tall buildings is gentrification or some shit, whose lives are completely and utterly subsidized by young people and professionals paying absurd market rates. A literal parasite class
They are called NIMBYs.
"Not In My Back Yard".
Like the Martha's Vineyard lot who say that illegal immigrants are welcome and then throw a shitfit when illegals were sent to THEIR neighbourhood.
They want Judge Dredd's Megacity One...
Over where THEY AREN'T.
>>41446091
Rent control isn't THE ONLY issue, but when landlords are expected to accept rent prices that would result in them not even breaking even for about 20 years, they might as well just write the buildings off.
Also, did you know that Zohran lives in a rent stabilised apartment?
Add to the above that developers are squeezed for every nickel and dime the city can get, there is no incentive to build.
>>41446104
Most of the so-called "nimby" activity in the city consists of working class renters in neighborhoods that are used as dumping grounds for homeless and junkies and unwanted congestion that would have polluted the rich people neighborhoods downtown, and what happens is you try to call this stuff out and a bunch of bot accounts from california call you a rich boomer racist
It's typical of developers who want to use zoning arbitrage to get rich quick to intentionally equate all community advocacy as "racist nimby boomer" because they know those words shut off all critical thinking, it's the urban policy equivalent of calling your opponent a pedophile
>>41446145
the whole "gotcha" around zohran living in a rent stabilized apartment reminds me of the AOC (fuck AOC btw) talk about how she was a bartender, andrew cuomo's pied a terre alone is like $8000 a month and I'm supposed to think he represents me?
rent stabilized apartments lose their status if the occupant makes a lot of money, you may not have realized this but you're simply reminding everyone that mamdani is middle class
>>41446418
Ah yes because the state is so good at providing high quality services at scale. It's obviously extremely easy to centrally plan a society and anticipate shifting human needs years in advance.
>>41446679
Except when the state takes over you will just pay $1495 in taxes instead of rent because the state taking over the apartment doesn't change the economic pressures driving up the rent.
>>41446679
Like one of two things will happen, either you will continue to pay the exact same amount. Or they will handwave the cost while the apartment goes into total disrepair.
The only solution that reduces the rent is either decreasing demand or increasing supply.
>>41446664
he's honestly not that articulate tho, he comes off as a slimy evasive politician when asked something he didn't have a prepared answer for, listen to his answer on the ballot proposal question. the fact is the alternatives are an actually awful person who everyone hates, and a lovable grandpa who seems totally fine 95% of the time and says absolutely demented shit the other 5% of the time, who everyone tolerates out of basic respect for old people, so all mamdani has to do is not sound off the deep end psycho and it's a slam dunk
I don't care about NYC politics. Your city isn't the center of the universe. I got my own politics with Supreme Court justice retention in PA here to worry about.
>>41446726 >I got my own politics with Supreme Court justice retention in PA here to worry about.
I've traveled through most of PA driving around over the last month and fuck those signs are everywhere.
>>41446679
The one GUARANTEED way to make the problem of a $1495 studio apartment worse is to decrease the supply of apartments, which is exactly what rent control does. Make it even worse by adding in additional demand in the form of a constantly growing population and I can only imagine what that studio apartment will cost in 2-3 years time. You'll be begging for a $1495 studio.
But hey, it's not my problem. I'm just enjoying the memes.
>>41445730
he's not a liberal, which is why democrats seethe about him as much as republicans do
he's genuinely a democratic socialist, just running as a democrat representative
>>41446692
How would it not? The fucking economic pressure for rent is uh... Fucking nothing? It's already built land. The building is there. Upkeep is not that much per person per month are you insane
>>41446902
Oh sweet sweet retard who has clearly never owned anything. It's adorable how little you understand of the world. You know what, you totally have it all figured out. Apartments clearly are the one thing human beings have built that never deteriorate or require repairs over time. After all housing is literally magic.
>>41446944
I own my place and I think landlords who landlord as a for profit corporation should get the guillotine. self serving of me I know but small time landlords who rent out a spare room (or an entire place because they moved to take care of their elderly parents) are ok
>>41446962 >I own my place
Oh totally, I believe you. You definitely have owned your home for 30 years and have a solid read on the cost of maintenance over time. You aren't a literal 19 year old retard shitposting from your dorm. You have an even better understanding of the maintenance costs and building standards of a high traffic, densely populated housing structure in the largest city in the US. This much is CLEAR from our brief interaction.
>>41447009
If the building has basically any staff, cleaning people, leasing agents, security, etc that will easily add $200K in recurring costs in NYC.
>>41445723 (OP)
Get a job and stop siphoning off our taxes then ask us to reconsider your retarded troon opinions. You don't know a damn thing about real life struggles go fuck a latte up the ass
>>41447134 >you're arguing with more than one person
Then all these internet niggas be 19 year old shitposters >take a deep breath it's going to be ok!
I ain't even mad bro, this is just how I communicate when I'm sober. This is au naturel posting my guy.
>>41447301
I've been hearing all my life that when I ______ I'll finally "grow up" and embrace anarcho capitalism or fascism or some shit like that. I'm old enough to be your dad, possibly your granddad, and I'm still waiting...
>>41447322
No not anyone I disagree with, just anyone who pretends like maintenance and upkeep of property is a trivial expense. Them niggas ain't got NO life experience to speak of.
>>41447338 >anarcho capitalism
Braindead ideology >fascism
Evil and pretty retarded ideology >I'm old enough to be your dad, possibly your granddad, and I'm still waiting...
Bro is in his 70's and still ain't learned how the world works at a basic level.
>>41447354
nta but there are many good reasons to oppose landlords owning hundreds or thousands of homes (p.s. "home" is inclusive of condos and co-ops and town houses and units inside multifamily buildings, contrary to what r-slurs seem to think). they may not have all the details right but they're more right than you
>>41447376
what is it that you think I'll finally learn when I'm 90 and all grown up. fascism is good? genocide is based? actually, the corporations have my best interests in mind?
>>41447382 >nta but there are many good reasons to oppose landlords owning hundreds or thousands of homes
Regulating ownership of property is not the same thing as rent control which was the thing that started this thread, and not even REMOTELY close to state ownership of property which is where the retards went off the rails, so like yeah there's a discussion to have there in this totally different direction my retarded friend.
>>41447032 >taxes
The state wouldn't pay that >appliances
Most last a long time, price over time is low >structural
Sure. Again, far lower for the state than for private businesses >etc
Again. The state can do these way cheaper
>>41447540 >The state can just do it all cheaper through... well... magic of course! It's the state! Trust us, it's worked out so well every time the state has taken over a private market!
Is this like how racists try to filter for absolute retards by just saying the dumbest shit imaginable to recruit people?
