you could be equally pessimistic by stating that those things you find beautiful, that is, 99.999% of the universe is ultimately pointless to humans or any species for that matter. we will never go there, the scientific advancements to be made are marginal at best, and the research interest is likewise marginal as well.
all large telescopes do is generate pretty images for existential nerds and propagandize a political agenda that fizzled out 60 years ago, not long after it began, and only really existed for terrestrial pettiness between alliances of nation states that have only decayed
or, you can choose to be happy that such alien beauty exists for us to appreciate, and isn't dependent on us in any way. it's completely free and it will never go away, no matter what tragedies befall us on earth.
