Pat Bateman is the quintessential male character

inside + outside perspective > outside perspective > inside perspective
heterosexual men face the issue of internal blindness when writing male characters; the men written tend to cycle back to them, their friends, or their fathers - all of whom are too similar to each other. daddy issues can make you enough of a psychopath to be a good writer, though they still lack the carnal, amorous, or sexual relations with other men that heterosexual women and homosexual men enjoy. likewise, heterosexual women lack the ego necessary to write men, meaning their work can appear unfinished or lackluster on the male experience. homosexual men are the only entities capable of achieving any type of masculine artistic apex, and it's no surprise how many works involving masculinity are written by gay men.

I can't even be upset at this; you're just categorically incorrect. A being made equal to not A kind of wrong. Incredibly disappointing to see this kind of thing being asserted unashamedly even on this wasteland of a website.

there are zero authors with artistic merit who have not had sex with a man. it's simply an objective fact. you require that type of intimacy with masculinity to understand it entirely.

This is the only book written by an woman that I've ever read where the main character is a male that didn't seem odd.

The average man writing a woman is just as bad.

Only talented writers in general can write their opposite gender. The rest just write them as wish fulfilment.

Hmm. When I read this I was struck by how female the narrator seemed to be. I was waiting for this to be the big twist (like The Wasp Factory) and then it wasn’t after all. SC just can't write first-person male viewpoint, it seems.

One can take a guess what your worldview is and not be wrong in it

it's bizzare, why would anyone care what a homo atheist nihilist epicureanist cares or thinks it's good? You are just automatically dismissed and you can return to your glorified gooning.

Female slop drivel is not even directed at men, it's made to fulfill female tropes about what men are in order to satisfy their romantic stories, rape stories or some homo stories. Part of men that make men what they are are dismissed because that would require gynocentric woman to acknowledge how the world works and justify male characteristics she denies have any value.

You can see this in other media where the female is the author.
