This quote ruined my life. I can't stop thinking about it every time I have to make a decision.

think of it as taking the pressure off of making a decision because both options suck

Any real choice closes off possibilities and thereby creates a shadow of loss. You cannot marry and also remain single; you cannot stay in your hometown and also discover Paris; each path sacrifices what the other would have yielded, so in retrospect some element of regret is inevitable. Kierkegaard is saying that regret is not eliminated by choosing well; it attaches to the very structure of choosing. Once you recognise regret as structural, you stop chasing the fantasy of a decision so perfect that it cancels all future second-guessing. Regret is the shadow cast by freedom; having choices means I will sometimes ache for their opposites. Every finite life leaves roads untaken. Either way you will feel the pull of what might have been, so let that be the price of a life that is actually lived.

If people had actually read Either/Or, they’d realize that this is just the first part meant to be narrated from the perspective of a young man. The second part has the exact opposite tone narrated from the perspective of an old married priest Jordan Petersoning the young man to clean his fucking room.

Regret is an inevitable part of life. Learn to take it on the chin, or be mired forever in indecision.

Regret is a fake “emotion” you produce in yourself by pointlessly reflecting on your past and looking for something to feel bad about. The only time regret is real is when it’s something you actually did recently that fucked something up. You can’t regret not doing something unless you’re a faggot who creates his own problems.

I can see you're not interested in learning from your own mistakes.
A pity, because you seem retarded enough to make lots of them.

how many mistakes do you fucking make? life isn't that difficult. and if you have to actively put effort into "learning from your mistakes," you may be a retard.

Man, it must absolutely suck to be such a tentative, hesitant mealy-mouthed little weakling. Sure, you should reflect on your choices in life, but at any given time, you are making the best choice possible given your state of mind. As an adult, you must discover what gives your life meaning, cultivate profound relationships, pursue things of great interest to you. If you do this, you will live a rich, vibrant life and there will be no room left for regret.

Fuck I hate optimist like you. If everything you do causes regret then the way to escape is to kys. This is the only answer to the problem of life: to die. But no, you fucking optimists want to stick your heads in the sand of positivity and live in denial of the fact that life is fucking shit, outright painful if it isn't boring, and empty if it isn't boring. With futility thrown over the top.

>shadow of loss
What if I decided not to board the flight that crashed and burned killing everyone? Might there not be a feeling of relief?
This is an extreme example but the point is that relief (not regret) accompanies the notion, or perhaps just the feeling, of having made a 'right choice' or 'the best one,' over time
Even immediate regret often becomes relief in the long run (if most likely mere indifference)
For me, this just isn't really a problem; the ability to choose is freedom, not having it oppression. If I discover that I've made a 'wrong choice' I just 'cut my losses' and move on. The state of mind OP's bit supposes is just alien to me; it isn't real

I regret nothing, because I have no free will and have never made a choice. Everything I will ever do or have done was fated to be since the beginning of time.

you can't regret anything since you are acted by wills dictated by society, temperaments dictated by your childhood, reactions dictated by your body, etc... etc...
So if you have to think deeply abaout your actions then regret is illogical.
However, to live with a personal fiction of life, means every choice is glorious...
