I don't think non whites have souls but I used to think Japs were partial exceptions.

Good literature and good art in general do a few things; they inspire us, they teach us, and they push us to strive towards our higher values. Decadent art does the opposite, it distracts us, to breaks our focus, and enslaves us to our lowest pleasures.

Mountainous sea people, high neoteny, highest IQโ€” they mitigated the burden of moon runes. And when you take propriety to a telepathic degree of observance, saying the right thing at the right time in the right manner parlays into literary culture of necessity.

Read Old Capital and The sound of the mountain by Kawabata last week. The prose is very minimal, many scenes are dialogue driven. Less rich, but not necessarily bad

The sound of the mountain is somewhat interesting, but the prose is very stunted. Will try reading the Thousand-something Crane next

Translating lolicon to pedophile is technically and actually incorrect.
The translator and editing team should be ashamed.

Pedophilia is sexual attraction to pre-pubescent children. Lolicon is a portmanteau of "lolita complex," which broadly means an affection for "lolita," which is a body type that overlaps pre AND post-pubescent, girlish bodies.

In the West, pedophilia has a connotation of "sexual abuse of children," while in Japan, lolicon has a connotation of "fond of a youthful body type." There's also the issue of the age of consent in Japan and the west broadly: prior to June 2023, the age of consent was 13 (it is now 16). Generally speaking, before that point, "lolicon" was perfectly legal. In the west, although the age of consent can be lower in certain jurisdictions and circumstances, generally the age of consent is 18, and there's been a recent broadening of the term "pedophilia" to include sex with girls 17 years, 364 days old.

The terms are semantically different enough that they shouldn't be used in translations in this way. It's lazy and technically and actually incorrect. The correct way to handle this would have been to keep the term "lolicon" and add a small footnote explaining what the term means. A worse way, avoiding a TL note, would be to write something like "but because I'm not attracted to children," etc etc. Wordy, but it would retain the meaning.

Funnily enough, 'lolicon' itself is a "western word"(created by Japs), clipping of 'lolita complex'.
Lolita, as we all know here, comes from Nabokov eponynous book and is a diminutive version of Dolores.
Dolores ->Lola ->Lo-lita

So, to summarise:
English book
Russian writer
Spanish name
Japanese term made of English
Huh?

>In the West, pedophilia has a connotation of "sexual abuse of children,"
That's a you problem, since the word pedophilia implies nothing of the sort; most instances of child sexual abuse are perpetrated by non-pedophiles, and pedophiles are actually underrepresented among convicted child molesters.

If your argument is about public perception, you're still wrong since most people who know the words consider them to be equivalent. The only people who make a distinction are a handful of autistic weebs like you that everyone else considers to be closeted pedophiles.
