In the West, pedophilia has a connotation of "sexual abuse of children," while in Japan, lolicon has a connotation of "fond of a youthful body type." There's also the issue of the age of consent in Japan and the west broadly: prior to June 2023, the age of consent was 13 (it is now 16). Generally speaking, before that point, "lolicon" was perfectly legal. In the west, although the age of consent can be lower in certain jurisdictions and circumstances, generally the age of consent is 18, and there's been a recent broadening of the term "pedophilia" to include sex with girls 17 years, 364 days old.
The terms are semantically different enough that they shouldn't be used in translations in this way. It's lazy and technically and actually incorrect. The correct way to handle this would have been to keep the term "lolicon" and add a small footnote explaining what the term means. A worse way, avoiding a TL note, would be to write something like "but because I'm not attracted to children," etc etc. Wordy, but it would retain the meaning.
