โ€ฆโ€ฆ.That is literally what itโ€™s based on, and George even said as much. The problem is he didnโ€™t make it obviously medieval looking.

Anyone who criticizes his map is an idiot because they donโ€™t know this. Had you went to Yi-Ti and asked for a map youโ€™d be given someone that looks completely different. Theyโ€™d get the west wrong the way the west gets the east wrong. People in Asshai think Casterly Rock is a castle made entirely out of solid gold.

It would be cool to see Jon, after getting ressurected, become more and more machiavellian and brutal. Its an arc that makes sense to me and it would be to neat to see him go from
"da others are comin, I need more than just the wall to stop them. Now that im freed from the watch I must push my claim on Winterfell and the north so I can save everybody"

and then to

"ah fuk the North is a disaster and everybody is dead. Wait you are telling me theres a hoe with dragons here now? And I have Targ blood in me? I gotta get in her pants PRONTO so I can have enough men and power to save the world"

That's probably what's going to happen, there was some guy who had a pretty decent outline
>Gets resurrected rally's some more Wildlings at the bridge of skulls, get Lightbringer in a situation similar to Hardhome from the show
>BOTB happens, Jon wins with help of Stannis
>Stannis rallies Northen Lord at WF, wants The Wildlings and Lords to bend the knee they refuse and prefer Jon
>Decide to settle it in single combat, where Jon's Lightbringer proves to be the true one
>Jon's declared KITN and Howland finally appears

Honestly I could see him hiding his Targ heritage to maintain his position as KITN, the introduction of Dragons to the continent could change this imo.
Also don't think the wall can fall by the end of Winds either, they'd be fucked.

>I'm sorry, I couldn't help but to overhear you talk about Ice and Fire. I do read them. I know they're problematic and I make no excuses for Martin. He ignores mothers too much, he writes about violence against women in a way that's excessive and the constant sexualization of children is weird to say the least but I don't think you should judge a book on it's failures alone. There is so much to love. Like how Martin explores trauma in an authentic way. One of my favorite chapters is Forsaken which explores Damphair who was molested by his brother and how that horrific event haunts him. I can relate because I was violently raped by my own uncle. Many times. It was relentless. He was so brutal to my ass, I still can't shit like a normal person. Damphair and Victarion, another based character, really capture what it's like to be fucked in the ass against your will. You should give those books a shot. They're really good once you get past the constant pedophilia.

https://wikiofthrones.com/daeron-is-here-charlie-gordon-joins-house-of-the-dragon-season-3-as-the-youngest-targaryen-prince-2
>Charlie Gordonโ€™s casting as Daeron Targaryen marks a progressive leap for fantasy televisionโ€”heโ€™s the first trans man to portray a major character in HBOโ€™s Game of Thrones universe. His arrival in Season 3 is complemented by returning character Sharako Lohar, played by talented trans actor Abigail Thorn, who made her debut in Season 2. Together, their presence signals a shift toward more inclusive storytelling within the world of Westeros. With Lohar entrenched in the naval conflict of the Stepstones and Daeron soaring in with Tessarion, Season 3 promises high-stakes drama with a refreshingly diverse ensemble.

Natural catastrophes that kill people and do large damage in ways that could have been prevented relatively easily do happen. Also massive corruption happens even in countries at war where people know they could die if they lost, or in countries with widespread famine.
It sounds to me like those lords probably thought Lord Stark was being overly cautious, or were in debt and didn't want to give up on the taxes from that grain being sold, or were incompetent and failed to make the necessary arrangements. Or they just hoarded food for themselves and their families and didn't care about peasants.
Idk, it doesn't seem far fetched to me.

Itโ€™s clear that George put no thought into the logistics of food hoarding for the long winters (and the series is probably best off for avoiding the topic entirely).
Are the lords responsible for hoarding all the food in their granaries? Even the portion of the harvests thatโ€™s owed to the peasants? Do they decide on when the food is released, or is it like a deposit in a bank whereby peasants can withdraw their portion of food? What prevents peasants from storing their own food (assuming itโ€™s simple infrastructure like salting the food and burying everything in the cold soil)?
Even if lords were selling their excess produce instead of hoarding it (if we look past the fact that their portion would be quite small compared to the total harvest), wouldnโ€™t there an opportunity for merchants to buy that food and hoard it themselves for winter?

The only thing that would make sense is that you can still plant and harvest stuff but the output is a lot smaller and cold snaps have a high chance of killing everything. Idk about the north tho it seems like they would be completely fucked with these seasons. How would they even be making any money to buy food in the winter? Northern food stores must be pretty big but I doubt its gonna last 5 or 10 years so that only leaves trading stuff for food. What does the North even produce to trade food for? In the books its talked about how the old people just walk out into the woods and die so the rest of their family doesn't starve in the winter but I bet that only helps out a little.

but in the north when multi year winters come, people turn to cannibalism. once winter is over the practice is abandoned out of shame. but there are those who can't abandon it. these people are exiled to skagos.
skagos is full of the descendants of not just Northern peasants but also nobles like Starks, Boltons, Umbers etc. the ones who refused to abandon cannibalism and thus were ereased from the family trees as if they had never existed. but the blood still runs strong on skagos and the human meat enhances their inborn magical capabilities.

At no point did Tolkien say that Orcs can't reproduce, as far as I'm aware. LotR mentions Saruman fielding half-breeds of Orcs and Men which implies sexual reproduction. This is further clarified in later material.
>It became clear in time that undoubted Men could under the domination of Morgoth or his agents in a few generations be reduced almost to the Orc-level of mind and habits; and then they would or could be made to mate with Orcs, producing new breeds, often larger and more cunning. There is no doubt that long afterwards, in the Third Age, Saruman rediscovered this, or learned of it in lore, and in his lust for mastery committed this, his wickedest deed: the interbreeding of Orcs and Men, producing both Men-orcs large and cunning, and Orc-men treacherous and vile.
So yes, at least as of LotR there are Orc babies.
The movies leave out that icky part and portray something like Tolkien's earliest idea of Orcs being originally created from the earth (though even there it isn't said that means they can't reproduce on their own), which means that all the based culture warrior Tolkien understanders on youtube don't know about it because they haven't read the books.

Humans probably excel at infrastructure, even sorcerous infrastructure, just going by Valyriaโ€™s favor with magic for so long. George has said itโ€™s cruel and capricious, but for some reason Valyrians could work it into infrastructural form? Sacrifice must have been the oil of the Freehold.

>"Where are the rest of you?" Bran asked Leaf, once.
>"Gone down into the earth," she answered. "Into the stones, into the trees. Before the First Men came all this land that you call Westeros was home to us, yet even in those days we were few. The gods gave us long lives but not great numbers, lest we overrun the world as deer will overrun a wood where there are no wolves to hunt them. That was in the dawn of days, when our sun was rising. Now it sinks, and this is our long dwindling. The giants are almost gone as well, they who were our bane and our brothers. The great lions of the western hills have been slain, the unicorns are all but gone, the mammoths down to a few hundred. The direwolves will outlast us all, but their time will come as well. In the world that men have made, there is no room for them, or us."
>She seemed sad when she said it, and that made Bran sad as well. It was only later that he thought, Men would not be sad. Men would be wroth. Men would hate and swear a bloody vengeance. The singers sing sad songs, where men would fight and kill.
It's more like the Children see themselves as part of the system they live, where man sees themselves as the master of it. The children had their time, and even had their moments of defiance when they broke the Arm of Dorne and fought the humans. Rate my theory bros. Show Euron = book Aegon, and Show Night King = book Euron.

Starting with show Euron = Aegon, this is basically built from (i) the fact that the Golden Company ends up fighting for Cersei to defend KL against Dany and (ii) the assumption that D&D got the main story beats right but don't give us the how/why. GC seem fiercely loyal to Aegon so hard to imagine they end up in Cersei's employ without Aegon being involved.

Not sure there's much or any evidence in the text, but the premise of the alliance would basically be the enemy of my enemy is my friend - Dany is going to show up with dragons and neither can hope to beat her independently. Cersei and Dany both have a much easier time working with Aegon than each other. I don't think Dany is going to be interested in taking on a partner when she arrives to Westeros and will probably be the most suspicious of Aegon's parentage of any character. Cersei is still horny over Rhaegar, so she'll finally get her Targaryen prince.

Anyway, that begs the question what happened to Euron in the show? Well, we know his main goal in the novels is to steal a dragon...

Another funny thing is he completely reworked her character too. She was actually going to be a ruthless conqueror, in the original draft she murdered Drogo for killing her brother, and was driven to conquer westeros, which makes the angle the show took with her kinda make sense since i bet those ideas D&D got were from GRRMs original outline.

I like most of it. I just don't think Aegon would marry Cersei when he's holding out for Dany. And CerseiCoin is currently plummetting. Imagine marrying her right after her walk of shame. There's definitely better women in Westeros for Aegon to marry right now, most obviously Margaery and Sansa. An Aegon-Sansa betrothal is due based off the Tourney at Ashford theory.

This made me laugh out loud, rolling on the F(sofa) laughing. I think GRRM tells an excellent story with interesting characters, and the repetition of phrases is one of the things that makes it feel more like a living experience. I think internally, I have my own "catchphrases" or observations that haunt me that repeat in my own head, and the repetition can make it seem emptier or carry more weight depending on life context.

>There are characters who never made it onto the screen at all, and others who died in the show but still live in the booksโ€ฆ so if nothing else, the readers will learn what happened to Jeyne Poole, Lady Stoneheart, Penny and her pig, Skahaz Shavepate, Arianne Martell, Darkstar, Victarion Greyjoy, Ser Garlan the Gallant, Aegon VI, and a myriad of other characters both great and small that viewers of the show never had the chance to meet.

>I have viewpoint characters in the books never seen on the show: Victarion Greyjoy, Arianne Martell, Areo Hotah, Jon Connington, Aeron Damphair They will all have chapters, and the things they do and say will impact the story and the major characters who were on the show. I have legions of secondary characters, not POVs but nonetheless important to the plot, who also figure in the story: Lady Stoneheart, Young Griff, the Tattered Prince, Penny, Brown Ben Plumm, the Shavepate, Marwyn the Mage, Darkstar, Jeyne Westerling. Some characters you saw in the show are quite different than the versions in the novels. Yarra Greyjoy is not Asha Greyjoy, and HBOโ€™s Euron Greyjoy is way, way, way, way different from mine. Quaithe still has a part to play. So does Rickon Stark. And poor Jeyne Poole.

Arianne, Victarion, Lady Stoneheart, Young Griff, Darkstar, Penny and Jeyne Poole are the only characters GRRM mentioned both times when talking about characters who weren't in the show but will be relevant in the later books.

It's an adaption can't have a bunch of one off appearances and offhand mentions, paying these people, allocating screen time and then actually expecting the audience to give a damn, or even bother to remember them, I'm not saying all of their choices of simplifying or combining characters was for the best or even the right choice but let be reasonable.

GRRMs story is bloated, and i bet when they had that sit-down with him after season 4 they realized almost none of them had shit to do with the endgame of the story, so they were just cut. D&D are retarded, but even you can realize that shit just wouldn't work on screen, like sure some are cool ideas but would they really resonate with the audience? Like who would give a fuck about FAegon? The audience wouldn't care, you'd be introducing this variable so late into the series and doubtful you could even do him justice?

You could even stop after Messiah and be fine, some people (including GRRM as I recall) don't care much for anything past that point. That's also where Villeneuve thinks the movies should stop.
Picrel is a pretty good summary, even though it's biased in favor of God Emperor and it might use an extra tier between 4 and 5 with Hunters of Dune/Sandworms of Dune (the Anderson/Brian Herbert conclusion to the main Dune story, supposedly based in some part on an outline by Frank) and The Road to Dune (which includes actual notes and deleted material from Herbert), for people who are really desperate for any morsel of Frank even if heavily bastardized or just want to sample how bad the new books are.
