Of course they can but libertarians think that a libertarian society would be more efficient and not being forced to pay taxes is more moral.
Even if building roads specifically was slightly more efficient in the current system, as long as a libertarian society can build them at all, the benefits in other areas may outweigh a few inconveniences.

Anonymous No.24664301 [Report] >>24664397

Even if natural monopolies exist in certain industries, it's better that the monopoly is held by a private company and not the state, because the state sustains the service via taxing so it has no incentives to be profitable at all, because it can earn as much profit as it wants with the taxes, and lacking incentives to be profitable is the same as lacking incentives to provide a good service. With a private company monopolising the natural monopoly, there's a risk (very low nonetheless, but not zero) that if they do things really bad, they get overthrown by another company which will from then on hold the monopoly, with the state enforcing a legal monopoly over the service the risk is exactly zero.

The Austrian school position about competition is not related to the neoclassic school's model of perfect competition by which there have to be necessarily several companies in an industry. The Austrian school defines competition as a potentiality rather than an actuality: If the conditions for other companies to enter the market exist, there is free market, even if those companies don't exist now or if the probability that they can enter and compete is low.

empiricist because we're limited to our sensible reality
egoist because man lives for himself fundamentally
rousseauist because there is an idea of a nation by which man lives through, and because a majority in said-nation can form a collective interest and will
socialist because capitalism in its current form is irrational on a collectice level

essentially, randian objectivism with the realisation that socialism isn't "irrational" to an egoist individual, which translates politically into the chinese model but with more democracy.

the whole point of the road problem is to illustrate that certain goods are better handled by the government as a proxy for collective will than private companies.

>because the state sustains the service via taxing so it has no incentives to be profitable at all
That's precisely what lolberts don't understand. The state isn't an external entity who comes to collect taxes and who sometimes creates stuff to legitimize itself. The state is the expression of people organized in a manner to make it efficient and potent.
The state has an incentive to be profitable because there is an incentive for the people to recieve good services in exchange of their taxes. There is an incentive for the people to lower the cost, improve the quality etc because it benefits them. The only reason why this isn't evidently the case is because our political system is completely corrupt down to the core and because people have no concept or feeling of belonging to the nation.

>>24664363
what's even left if you remove the christcuck stuff ? Luke smith's gimmick of living in the woods disconnected from politics is because there is a natural preordained way that people can follow which is the reason for him to do so and turn away from politics.
if you remove the christian part then life has no intrinsic meaning, then there is no grounded ethic, then there is no way of life you can follow in semi-isolation

>The state isn't an external entity who comes to collect taxes and who sometimes creates stuff to legitimize itself. The state is the expression of people organized in a manner to make it efficient and potent.

The state is backed by an army which will fuck you up if you don't pay your taxes, so it's violent even if you are an utilitarian and consider that such violence is justified. There is not an aggregated will of the population exerted by the state, the state is the will of those who are in charge and are able to use the violent resources of the state to perpetuate their position of power, and this is so even in a respected democracy because of the Arrow's impossibility theorem (the counting method matters as much as the votes, and the counting method is arbitrarily set by the preexisting state) and because the limits of what can be voted or not, namely, the rights, are also set by the state, as voting for them is a paradox that presumes that everything can be decided with an election, election which will be affected by the Arrow theorem anyway. And yes, public services are a way to seem legitimate to the cattle, a flagrant yet culturally accepted form of unfair competition. It's honestly hilarous how people in Europe, where I live, shit on private healthcare considering that the state seizes resources (which could freely fund private healthcare) to fund public healthcare, hence making the payment of private healthcare like paying twice, and obviously that makes private healthcare much worse than it would be in a free market.

> there is an incentive for the people to recieve good services in exchange of their taxes.

The only way to express that is voting. And, since the state does a myriad of functions apart from the bad service they want to change, the party in charge may be on average better than the other, while the other is better at that service, which will be then left unchanged and unefficient as the people vote for the one which is better on avergae. A possible statal solution for this could be that we vote for different political parties for each key service, so that we can express our will in single matters, but that is nothing but an unefficient version of having companies with high division of labour, which only devote their time to that, in charge of those servicies, and to which the equivalent of a vote would be a purchase.

>The state is backed by an army [...]
Once again the lolbert doesn't understand modern politics, rights and our legal system. Since you live in Europe, you should know that many EU countries iirc had referendums and special votes to create the legal system in which to set democracies. There wasn't an external state saying what to vote on and what we can't vote on as per your Arrow's theorem, but people agreeing to create constitutions and legal systems in the wake of ww2. But once again, knowing this would make your idea of the state as illegitimate crumble.

>The only way to express that is voting
There's something called an "approval rate". Or better yet, the idea that ministers and the governing body should be accountable.
