>the use of first person pronouns didn’t happen until after Jesus
>jesus was the first man who became conscious
>he created the gospels as a mind virus to rewire peoples brains and spread consciousness to the rest of the human race
>the Romans who enslaved the rest of humanity knew this and crucified him a la Prometheus
>rise of consciousness causes the collapse of the Roman Empire
>meanwhile in the east Confucius comes up with another mind virus but to rewire the brains of his followers into a giant collective hive mind
>the 22nd century will be a giant battle between the p zombie collectivists and the conscious Christian individualists
Holy shit it all makes sense.

This is my favorite schizo nonfiction book. Is Jaynes right? Almost certainly not. Is it provocative and entertaining? Absolutely. This is up there with Bloom insisting that Shakespeare invented introspection lmao

I don't see how this is any more believable than somebody actually rising from the dead.

My feelings are "That's bullshit but I believe it".
It's out there but thought provoking.

Close but it was Lao Tzu. Also Tao Te Ching uses recursively enumerable grammar whereas the New Testament uses context sensitive. The Chinese will win this war.

literacy = consciousness
people who don't read lack internal narrative

How does it stack up against McGilchrist? Especially so since the two are grouped together.

The concept that ancient people were automatons is oddly appealing.
The chapter on Egypt in particular felt like Children of the Corn.

It's a huge waste time. Speculative fiction larping as science. If I wanted to read fiction i'd read fiction.

While I enjoyed the historical theories, I really enjoyed the way he explained how the brain hemispheres communicate. How they process introspection and how memories are stored, the view, the screen, how the brain processes the file cabinet of knowledge into a moving picture. It's one of my favorite books.

Christcucks are the definition of NPC. Also none of your fiction relates to the book in any way.

My college textbook for intro psych had a chapter on consciousness which took a lot of definitions and descriptions of consciousness from Jaynes's work. Obviously none of that bicamerality historical speculation stuff, but it's still interesting to note.

Jaynes strictly means internal narrative when he says consciousness. I don't agree with that definition but within that premise his ideas are more acceptable.
