I don’t actually read much I’m more of a film guy but my friend reads a lot of complex literature like Don Quixote and the Inferno and last time I said no thanks when she tried to lend me a book, she joked that she wanted to tie me up and force me to read.

This trend is pretty obvious across platforms. IMDB is obviously weighted toward male taste, whereas GoodReads is weighted toward female taste

yeah. i worked in a book warehouse and though we stocked slop for men of similar kinds as for women, i don't remember shipping a single copy of it. (i liked to browse around and look through the funnier stuff, so i knew what we had even when it didn't sell .) we did ship thousands of copies of the women's porn stories and women's crime thrillers every day though. the only books that i believe we were shipping for men in any real quantity were shitty memoirs, pop-politics and pop-history books, but that was pretty much exclusively around christmas meaning they were only given as gifts and not actually bought to read. yeah, the only books i registered as probably bought by men were single copies of classics and modern litfic. so while men don't read, those that do read read either garbage they're given as gifts or actually good stuff. it was very depressing to shift such mountains of garbage slop every day, knowing how much was being paid for all this mental poison and feeling like i was contributing in the degradation of our world (even if it was a minimal part i played), but at least that was white pilling
