what do we think about J. R. R. Tolkien's seminal essay "On Fairy Stories"? do you agree that escapism is good?

I don't really care about whether Tolkien was right or not about escapism, but I really like On Fairy Stories because it lays forth a lot of the fundamental philosophy behind his writing

Aristotle believed great art truly capable of moving peoole had to be at least a partial mirror to reality, all art is but the further the writer tries to shave off our lived reality and the more unbelievable his story gets the less emotionally impactful and grand it is. I can give Tolkien a genreshitter pass because his characters are quite realistic and I really enjoy the ideas he tries to convey through his story but ultimately if he saw what the genreshitters on this board constantly praise about escapism and art as a means to flee to another world instead of one to cope and relate to this one he would be extremely dissapointed. Escapism hurts the soul in a fundamental way but since he's british and possibly autistic I wouldn't take his views on literatuse and art particularly seriously
