Haro Mystery
Can someone please explain Haro to me? Why does Haro show up in almost every Gundam? Why does Haro help or care so much for the characters it attaches to? Is every Haro the same entity, a different one, or connected parts of a whole like some sort of hive mind? Is Haro invincible? I have so many questions about this mysterious creature.

Amuro originally build Haro because he's a NEET sperg, he then sold the patent for mad bucks after the OYW, which led to it becoming a common toy. Anything outside UC is just adding Haro because it's the mascot now.

Haro is the singularity point in the gundam multiverse. He exists simultaniously in all Gundamverses and is aware of all Gundamverses and events he sees within them.

>Amuro originally build Haro because he's a NEET sperg, he then sold the patent for mad bucks after the OYW, which led to it becoming a common toy.
Other way around. Haro was the mascot of the Colony Public Corporation (CPC) - the organisation in charge of building and maintaining the Universal Century's space colonies. A mascot character toy with rudimentary AI interaction was available for purchase to consumers - similar to how we have stuff like talking dolls of kids' TV-show characters.
It was popular among undergrad engineering students to mod these because they were easily accessible and affordable in case of permanent fuck-ups, but still challenging and rewarding to mess around with. Amuro bought one to tinker on intent on passing it to Fraw as a gift. He managed to improve its AI and installed manipulator arms on it by the time the OYW hit their colony and they were forced into the war, after which Amuro had precious little time to bother continue modding his Haro.

Kamille acquires a broken down mass-produced Mk II revised Haro later in Zeta Gundam, which he suspects is actually the original. He repairs it; only for the thing to continuously address him as "Amuro" - which means he was either correct; or whoever started mass-producing them again after the OYW had a very strange sense of humor to themselves.

You pulled this straight from the fandom page didn’t you? Because if you did the page on Amuro Ray says
> Amuro has a certain knack for mechanics, including building the famous talking ball shaped robot named Haro
My point here is that fandom isn’t exactly a reliable source.

Anyways the fandom cites this info as coming from “Mobile Suit Memoirs: The Best Mobile Suit UC 0079 - UC 0153 (1999)” has anyone on here read this and confirm if the haro info was actually say here? In addition does anyone know if any earlier lore contradicts this because I swear that in the original MSG Amuro says he built Haro and in Zeta they say that the mass production Haros were based on Amuro’s design, therefore implying Amuro invented it.

I know that but I’m wondering if “Mobile Suit Memoirs: The Best Mobile Suit UC 0079 - UC 0153 (1999)” really did the retcon first. If so it would predate the Origin retcon by about 6-7 years because the Issue of Origin that introduced the retcon came out in 2005 or 2006 (can’t remember if it was “ To War” or “ Battle Of Loum” when Tem Ray buys Haro for Amuro)

The Japanese wiki backs that up.

>MS回顧録 1999

Also notes that's actually a reprint of an article by the magazine B-CLUB, which ran from 85 to 98, so it's older. It was specifically written by Koichi Inoue who at the time of Gundam F91 was in charge of organizing and detailed the UC setting to help the production of new animated works.

I haven't closely checked in years, but I think Haro is just "his" in 0079, then in Zeta they mention the White Base Haro being mass-produced so they all recognize Bright.
tbdesu I'm not a hundred percent sure if they explicitly ever said that Amuro was behind that or if that's just sort of a fan joke that grew

Ok I’m back

So I checked both the first episode of MSG and episode 11 of Zeta.

Episode one of MSG doesn’t say anything suggesting that Amuro built Haro. Don’t know why I thought it did.

In episode 11 of Zeta, Bright only says that, “Even the toy versions were programmed with the names of Amuro and Bright” and nothing else.

There may be a scene in MSG or Zeta that states definitely if Amuro built Haro or not but I’m not going to rewatch the entirety of both shows to find out.

The official explanation is that Haro is like a kit that you buy and then put together, rather than coming pre-made, which is why Amuro is referencing there. But, yeah, considering that Japanese wiki article has Tomino's notes outright saying Haro is Amuro's creation, it's clearly a retcon.

That makes more sense, so Amuro still built Haro so the retcon lines up with the Ep 3 dialogue. Pretty clever.

I reread the Japanese wiki page posted earlier (after running it through google translate) and it says the exact same thing.
