So for whatever reason, I kind of fell out of touch with Super Sentai and I haven't watched any season since Lupinranger vs Patranger. It wasn't because I didn't like it, LuPat was fine, life just kinda went a few ways and I drifted away from the series for a while. My impression after watching zyuranger and about half of the showa shows is that this franchise really needs an extra 5-10 minute time budget

It's trying to be both kamen rider *and* ultraman at the same time within the same 20 minute time slot and often that results in either the story being incredibly short and not well fleshed out, or the fights being incredibly short, to the point where all that happens is a few second scuffle with the giant robot before it's over. It feels like there really just isn't enough time for them to do everything they want to do.

I'm still enjoy watching them but I just wish they had a little more time to really flesh out the episode by episode stories a bit more. having 5 main characters also makes it harder to really explore each of them

does this improve with later series?

I wish they made more toys or figures of Sentai villains, or toku villains in general. I would have emptied my fucking bank account for figuarts of the Deboss generals during Kyoryu.

Yeah, partially because they stop eating up a lot of the fights with stock footage of a team bazooka or mechas combining. Also, recurring subplots become more common even if the main focus still is on motw most of the time.

That said, a lot of the time the giant robot stuff does still end up feeling unnecessary plotwise even if the action is never as short as in the earlier shows.

Ok neat. One of the things I've really quite enjoyed is watching how the shows continued to evolve. they were constantly tweaking things and trying out new techniques which is really cool.
Kinda strange that they tried out that low angle shot you see a lot in kyuranger to show the monsters growing larger way early on, but only once. then for some reason they went back to using the special effects instead.

I like the combination sequences, and I'm not fond off when modern series speed through them after their debuts, kind of makes the mecha look cheap, but the issue is the limited screentime. Sometimes you could end up with combination sequences longer than some of the shorter fights.

Super sentai seems to be really nice about police, akuse,keiichiro,banban, they are all super good cops that take their job seriously, the only bad thing i've heard constantly shown in media about japanese police is brutal interrogations where they beat up innocent people

Yeah Japanese beat cops don't really do anything questionable except occasionally harass foreigners for their paperwork. Even then they actively want the paperwork to be right so they can just say thank you, send you on your way and report to HQ that they actually did something that hour. It's not like with US cops who actively go looking for trouble and every interaction is them hoping they can arrest you for something. Mostly because in Japan everything promotion and salary is hierarchy based like everything else so there's no incentive for arresting people. There's no quota's to make and you don't get promotions or money based on how many people you can screw over. A US beat cop goes on shift hoping some action happens so they can impress the higher ups, a Japanese beat cop goes on shift hoping at best to investigate a few things that turn out to be nothing, so they can look like they're working without having to actually trouble themselves.

Japan kept a beat cop culture where low-ranking policemen patrolled areas and were mostly just there to help people out with minor shit, without having any sort of shame culture surrounding it. That did a lot to help police PR. Shinkenger hater from an earlier thread here, I just finished it last night.
It was good for about 3 or so episodes around the end (you know the ones if you have seen it around the time pic related dies) but I still disliked it overall and only liked Green, Yellow, and Gold for the main cast.
Definitely a weak show in my eyes, in fact the weakest one I have seen but still have only seen 10 shows plus Gozyuger right now.
Highlight is that both me and the guy I was watching with burst out laughing when pic related happened, though I actually thought most of the villains were fine. The fact that I thought the show was mostly boring and had a mostly unlikable cast except for a couple people, as well as only one arc that I really liked makes me think of Kamen Rider Ghost.

I was shown some Plex Dev sheets of early Gozyuger style guides for the mecha and Rangers, Polar was silver and I think Goodeburn
is the most different, Silver-ish with more gold accents and less cyan. Most of the default mecha were the same just some different color tones darker green, lighter yellow etc.
Goodeburn originally had a combo where he split down the middle and was worn as a mantle like Zyutei Daizyuzin. I've seen the older plex dev sheets for other series and I've never seen such a different alteration of a design that was handed out to retailers as I was told this is what retailers saw in a merch meeting early last november.
