Maschinen Krieger ZbV 3000

It seems Akira Tani will be the owner of Maschinen Krieger once Yokoyama shit the bed.

Akira Tani is old and tired as fuck and has retired from mecha model kit sculpting like 10 times. I seriously doubt he wants anything to do with managing Kow's tiny empire.
Plus, Kow hasn't sculpted the masters for his model kits for a long ass time. Especially now, it's all CAD and the dude can barely use photoshop.
It's like saying Tani deserves to own FSS since he sculpted all the best Mortar Headd models.

Bonus: old Kow Yokoyama fantasy art from the 80's when he was doing all the freelance RPG work with Amano.

Tani retired from Kaiyodo in 2023 after 26 years. But he keeps working on FSS stuff so who knows. Nagano has some big pull I guess. And JP work ethic.
Not that I am complaining, he's a god hand.
And remastering scans of old sculpts in CAD must have been insane. I can't even imagine. The whole line of Artpla Sculpture works is brilliant.

More vintage Kow to be slightly on topic. Another joint project with Amano, this time for Front Mission.

Love the Artpla Ma.K kits. Built and painted up both a PAK Kröte and Großer Hund, had a blast with both. Really crossing my fingers that they do an Artpla set for the Gans somewhere down the line. Seems inevitable seeing as they already have the tooling for the Kuster chasis.

tbf I feel like something like a MAK movie could be easier to make than a gundam one. A lot of niche franchises get movies because it's cheap and the brand complains less.
Higher chance of it being "in name only" and it has nothing really to do with it though.

Either way I'd want a full toku production for MAK over a hollywood one any day. Maybe even for gundam as well lol

I've been looking this up and the most I could find is that someone else, Ichiro Kojima, is credited for the designs, and he's a known artist who's worked on other games.
But yokoyama did work on the paint schemes/patterns, and also has a credit in the game for this. Any time he did art for other games he's properly credited though.

Maybe he supervised. Maybe this kojima guy was a bit of an understudy or something. I dunno.
Anonymous No.23316171 [Report]

Googled it again and this Ichiro Kojima fellow is also the director of the game so who knows. That's what the credits say I guess lol
Anonymous No.23316172 [Report]
>>23316165
so he 100% was involved to some capacity with the game? yeah maybe he did some light design work and refined some of the designs in addition to the paint schemes. i wouldnt be surprised if he put some work into the designs but just didnt get credit because it was mostly the other guy. i think that happens in game credits and it wouldnt be surprising in a small obscure budget game for that to happen.

i was thinking of getting a few of these MA.K kits (which i already found cool) and maybe panting them up in a paint scheme from the game. ive always liked the ma.k stuff i saw in hobby shops but being a gundam and a warhammer modeler i didnt want to get into a new thing before.

would be kino of someone just put the models out to 3d print the machines. a lot of them painted properly would probably just look like ma.k shit.

For years I thought it was interesting that Kondo used Kobayashi's Dragon's Heaven design as The-O II in Kondo's manga stories. I assumed it was because they were friends with similiar design styles and Kobayashi was cool with it. This drawing is by Kondo. To think that he was simply using Kobayashis designs like this all those years without Kobayashi's consent blows my fucking mind.
Chud No.23319697 [Report]
>>23319690
To be fair, Kobayashi doesn't own Gundam so what Kondo did legally wasn't in the wrong. However, the matter of integrity remains to be questioned because he can't just use another person's design and claim it was his. I don't believe Kondo steals everything from Kobayashi, i just think in this isolated incident, he is wrong.

The vehicles like this one and the Gladiator that use a modified SAFS/Melusine torso for the pilot seem like they'd be nightmare to pilot. I really can't wrap my head around how a person gets in/out of the Gladiator. I don't see any seamlines that imply that the front end can open up in any meaningful way. Obviously its a non issue and Kow probably just wanted to make a cool looking spider robot, but I still like to imagine all the silly ways a person could wiggle into it.

>>23351193
These seem to imply that the wearer's arms actually sit inside the bulbous part of the torso, while the arms of the suit are completely robotic. Official materials seem to flip back and forth on where the wearers arms actually go though.

For vehicles I can go either way, they're usually a little more bulked out so there's more room to the imagination, but power armor where you actually control it by a tiny little panel near your chest always bugs me. I feel like it's even usually just a post-hoc justification because an artist just didn't bother making it anatomically possible.
With MaK you can also go the third route and say it's a robot, but I also like it when there's motifs for that as well.

Not really. It is probably similar to Kangaroo. This robot is a repurposed Ausf suit with Kuster parts. It has regular cockpit as you can see, if Gladiator uses movement-based control like Pacific Rim, it would be absolute hell to pilot.

No joke, the most expensive kit in my backlog was Wave's Krote. Such a spicy pricetag for a simple modelkit. These Ma.K kits feel like those overpriced Garage Kits, they don't offer much in term of size and complexity, you buy them for the aesthetic, that's it.

$300 AUD is outrageous, but the Gans is kinda rare and expensive right now. I was looking for one on ebay earlier this summer and they were routinely going for around $115 USD. I was lucky enough to have gotten one of the reprints of it for like $45 USD when I was in high school, but the quality of the build/paint job very much reflects that of a high schooler's work. I wound up settling for an $85 USD Luna Gans since it was a North American seller.

I have no idea Lunagans is that rare. I just built mine yesterday and thought it is just another common Krote retool. There is a Ma.K enthusiast in my place and he is also a retailer so i managed to get it for 80 dollars, well different currency but around that after currency exchange.

I for one do not care about this. Kobayashi GAVE that design to the Gundam universe. It is now fair game for anyone to use it. What makes this different from the Zaku or Gouf? Why don't you need Okawara's permission to draw them?
Anonymous No.23360760 [Report]
>>23360748
Except most of later Zaku expy have been using different linearts and differ themselves from Okawara's linearts. Ebikawa didn't copypaste Akitaka's Jarja lineart for Gyagya, Gyobu didn't copy Okawara's Zaku for his Zaku 4, and so on. What Kobayashi accuses Kondo of is a straight up copypasting instead of doing his own version of the design.

It's something you just have to accept when it comes to this stuff, they can design any number of elaborate illustrations or sequences that are supposed to show how the thing is put on or controlled, but taken as a whole it's easy to see the flaws. For the armour in M.D. Geist, they included a little explainer insert with the video explaining how the armour's power is down to the wearer's athleticism.

zero and no mean zero mold lines
no flash no clean up required
the helmet is even the helmet is made out of pewter. I've built some of the older kits and they are pretty good but require some tlc. the figure I posted with my MK44 itt was really nice but needed some work. this figure on the other hand *which I'm assuming is much more recent? it says 2009 on the bag but I think it's a newer* is flawless. I'm honestly really impressed.
