In the novels, yeah. There is a scene where his limo pulls up to Ramba and Hamon and he silently motions Hamon in to get fucked by him. The next time she appears she and Kycilia are talking about the whole issue. At that point Kycilia is tired of letting loyalist in her country suffer for the sake of Gihren being a psychotic sex cretin. She ends up shooting his dick off with a pistol at the end of the book as well.

Obesity was less of a problem way back when. Science Fiction fandom was overwhelmingly well educated, white and male. Yes, there were fewer female SF fans in general, but a LOT of them were concentrated in the "Japanimation" fringe fandom. A lot of the movers and shakers and early leaders of what became anime fandom were female. So yeah, equal gender distribution was a thing in early anime fandom, especially among the more active anime fans.

One way was by laboriously tuning into UHF channels on your TV. In New York in the 1970's there was a channel that was Spanish during the day but Japanese on Saturday nights. They re-broadcast subtitled anime and Toku which originally shown on Hawaii's Fuji Telecasting. They had GoRanger, Raideen, Star prince Chobin, Ikkiyu-San, GE999, Captain Harlock, Queen of 1000 Years and the one that really hooked me, the color Cyborg 009 TV series. This happened in several other cities with Little Tokyo communities. Pictured are some of the shows I grew up on.

Maybe you can help me. Do you remember an anime (might have been movie, ova or tv series, I remember watching it on vhs), looked like late 70s maybe, or maybe 80s.
Started with a young man jumping to protect a flower from a bulldozer, and the construction guys bullying him for doing that.
Then there was some sort of time travel shit and dinosaurs.

Another way was finding someone who had a VCR and could record those subtitled shows. But VCR's cost at least $1000 back then ($5,944.22 today). If they had 2 VCR's they could dubb tapes. People like Richard and Gerald Moriarty in NYC would dubb tapes for anyone who asked. Ditto for Bill Thomas in Philly. Mark Merlino, co-founder of the C/FO would do it by mail. All of them sadly, deceased. Damn, there were giants in those days.

There were national clubs, the Cartoon/Fantasy Organization and the StarBlazers fan club, that published the contact info of their chapters. Only about half the people who came to the C/FO chapter I founded at my college were students, the rest found us through the C/FO's magazine.

Circling back toward the topic... There was a fan comic which ran either in an early C/FO magazine or an anime-themed APA. It portrayed Ghiren Zabi instructing Cecilia Irene to take a letter. With a ditzy expression she asks "which one? there are 26 of the after all." Final panel showed Ghiren with his elbows on the table, fists clenched, face angry, thinking, "I'd kill her if it weren't for the way she distorts the eagles on her uniform!"

I count myself lucky that i never had to pay a pirate a penny to get copies. I was lucky enough to meet people who were happy to trade tapes back and forth. When I didn't have anything they wanted, I'd give them three tapes, and they would copy stuff onto two of them and keep the third as "payment".
