Char has the same issue that Darth Vader has. Only their original writers know how to actually write them, everyone else completely missed the mark.

This is why Char is presented as a super unstoppable ace monster that can 1v5 a group of other named aces in heavily customized machines (one being Johny Ridden and another being fucking Yazan), being literally untouchable in Origin and most recently being able to outmartial arts Kamille in Engage despite the events of Zeta and CCA showing there's no way he could actually pull these things off. Same way Darth Vader is now presented as being able to solo entire armies or hold back ships from taking off or being a super giga duelist even though he literally can't lift his arms up much at all.

And let's not forget most of his lewds are fujoshit like CharXAmuro, CharXGarma, CharXKamille.

That's sort of the point? Char's consistently shown as an ace who's great a punching down on weaker opponents but consistently folds when he needs to fight something new or someone of remotely equal prowess with his saving grace being he's probably living through the engagement. The thing is being a monster when it comes to fighting a bunch of regular soldiers is enough to keep the legend alive it just looks significantly less impressive from our perspective because as a viewer we don't exactly care much about how well he smashes enemy grunts.

Objectively, Jerid is a pretty great pilot. He's a newtype from basically the start of the series, he was the first in UC to use what would be known in GQuuuuuuX as MAV tactics, he pilots 7 different MS and seems to have no issue adapting to each one (even a Newtype-only MS where the psycommu is known to cause issues for the pilots), he pressured Axis forces in the Byarlant and would have killed Haman if the AEUG hadn't bailed her out, and most importantly, he survives encounter after encounter with the Argama and Kamille, nearly killing Kamille on multiple occasions.

He's just lacking in tangible achievements due to fixating on Kamille, who he's woefully no match for.

No he'd be a match for Kamille, but part of his character flaw is that his too obsessed to think clearly when he needs to. That was what literally everyone was telling him. ANT should have really redid his last fight. The intent of having him job like that was to show how easily one can just lose their life in battle no matter how good they're suppose to be, but with Jerid he needs a longer fight so that people better understand the down fall of this man, He should have been chasing Kamille through out the whole Gryps 2 battle at every expense of his life, only to get blown away by the colony lazer.

The Hyaku Shiki was incredibly outdated by the end of the series but had a consistently strong showing throughout. Even surviving against both The O and Qubeley when Char is a far weaker newtype than either Scirocco or Haman is incredible.

I'm assuming you mean Johnny and Yazan? Both of them, alongside Ingrid 0, Jacobius and Uma Lighting are all in heavily and thoroughly customized MS backed by private companies. Their suits might look old but their performance is on par with MS of the time. The Gelgoog Vertex is straight up better than the Regelgu for example and that suit was giving the ZZ a run for it's money.

Yazan meanwhile is using a GM III with Jegan parts too, so he's using bleeding edge parts. Meanwhile Char is in a Dijeh with parts from the Sturm Dias and prototype Geara Doga parts.
