Shulato is criminally overlooked. Out of the 3 mystical armor anime of the late 80s, I thought it was interesting as fuck using Indian mythos.

I am legit shocked that they're remaking Yoroiden Samurai Troopers. I hope they retain Shuten Doji and his development. He's hands down THE best character in the whole series.

I do have mixed feelings about this. While I do like remakes like the 2020 Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibouken since it adapted the manga that the 90's series failed to do, I hate this modern trend of revamps because it reminds me of Hollywood's lack of creativity.

The premise in the official site is this, which sounds fairly generic. It's either a sequel or an AU where they're reusing some terms.

Message was the Zen conclusion of the original series. Remember how their armor was linked to Arago's original set and that the only reason why they got stronger was because the violence from all the fights empowered it? The Troopers saw their armor as tainted and were afraid of being corrupted by it.

Suzunagi purifying their armor and reshaping it was their progression coming to full circle and giving them a new start. I didn't appreciate Message when I saw it way back in 2010 but looking back, I appreciate what the animators were trying to do artistically.

Yeah. I always imagine a sequel of the series to take place after Message, but reforging the armors to look like the original ones destroyed in Africa (or close to it). Thank god Shogo Muto thought the same idea. But I really hope they bring the Season Armors back, redesigned to match the updated Suzunagi Elemental set.

Mukala of the Sun felt like an appropriate series finale that was actually cool as a bonus to the TV series' finale. Message felt like it was stalling for time in at least half of each episode, only the last episode felt remotely relevant, and demons were seemingly back and terrorizing the planet for no apparent reason. I hope this sequel series is good.

The one thing I hoped that this new series does is actually build-up the characters. The first episode of the 1988 series got me confused when we saw these 5 random dudes wearing sub-armor battle supernatural beings without any backstory. It wasn't until I got access to the Internet that I found out that each of the guys discovered their respective armor as a family heirloom that they had to earn.

The initial episodes should have the bad guys attack and consolidate control. The next episodes introduces each Samurai Trooper, who they are, and how they seek to tap into the armor. They find individually because none of them know about each other and then they're finally forced to fight together when circumstances arrange for all 5 to cross paths.

I have mixed feelings toward Yoroiden Samurai Troopers. Sunrise had just finished Metal Armor Dragonar which I consider one of the best 80's mecha and decided to shift into fantasy/martial arts with YST. I hope that with all these revamps and/or sequels, we can get another Dragonar installment. Or an L-Gaim prequel about Posaydal's rise to power and how he conquered the Pentagonal System.
