After watching everything M7, I can say with absolute certainty that Totsugeki Love Heart is still the best.

>>23318143>this guy was taken hostage by a songMusic can't hurt you my man. Anyways, here is Planet Dance.

This is probably the best song I've ever heard from /m/ stuff but Macross 7's OST is up there.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gw86-GxE8-M
My favourite M7 song would probably be Power to the Dream. Every entry in the Macross series has good music, even the entries I don't like. People complain about Delta but there isn't enough praise for the OST, there's a lot of great stuff in there. Giraffe Blues always gets me teary eyed, Silent Hacker and Onya Noko Girl are also really fucking good.
>>23319670That wasn't my experience with the particularly spammed songs in M7, I still really like Planet Dance as an example, but I know the feeling. >Mylene belly button
>>23323026>7 is the worst macross. I'd rather watch another 40 episodes of Basara screaming at enemies to listen to him while singing some of the best songs in the medium than sit through a single episode of Delta, listening to people monologue about the wind and watching one-dimensional characters perform sterile, formulaic, shallow idol songs.
>>23323026Each to their own. I like it because:

>>23323026>Everyone treats Basara like he is JesusEveryone treats him like a nutcase, and is shocked in the end to discover he was actually on to something. Even Ray just thinks he's a well-meaning weirdo
>>23317245 (OP)Most /m/ songs are by career anison singers, mainstrream performers just starting out, or ones in their later years winding down so it was a surprise to see one by an established singer in their prime.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZM81EY3OcE
Horie Mitsuko recorded a cover the same year and while I've always thought she was a great singer her version is almost pathetically inferior to Iwasaki Hiromi's
https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/nm12688122
I've often wondered why Horie Mitsuko never broke the anison barrier and I guess that's why. But to be fair Iwasaki Hiromi is considered to be one of Japan's greatest singers by many fans and musicians. Yet the direct comparison between Iwasaki and Horie, who were born less than a year apart, is extremely brutal nonetheless.
>>23323579>I've often wondered why Horie Mitsuko never broke the anison barrierYou say that like it's a bad thing.
>>23323590I say that because she tried to and also many anison singers started doing so because their singing careers never took off in other arenas.
>>23323026literally watching Macross 7 for the first time right now, only up to episode 15, I'm getting pissed at Basara. Maybe he'll get better near the end, but his naivety is wearing me out.
>>23326220he isn't naive at all, his goal is getting as many people to listen to his song as possible. He literally doesn't give a fuck about anything else. He's a singer, not a soldier. All of the fighting only gets in the way of his ability to sing to an attentive audience
>>23327397I know I'm only at the start but I thought he wanted to mimic Minmay, to a fault. Like he's some idealist who heard she stopped a war with her music and he wanted to do the same thing. Maybe I'm just putting ideals into a character who is just simply a guy wanting to share his music with the universe though.
I still think he's naive when it comes to live combat though. When he engages enemies who attacked his concert, and instead of defending them he just wants to have them listen to his music? When he actively gets in the way of combat and probably adding to the count of pilots getting spirita sucked simply by getting in the way. he feels pacifistic to a fault, and I'm just hoping he develops more successful ways of using his songs on the battlefield, rather than only adding to chaos and getting laughed at.
>>23327453> I'm just hoping he develops more successful ways of using his songs on the battlefieldIf you've been paying attention, the songs are actually what are causing the Protodevlin to retreat
The show will explain why this is in concrete terms in just a few episodes from where you're at as the characters start to figure it out

>>23326220>I'm getting pissed at BasaraA lot of people hate him and find him obnoxious at first, but end up loving him and his music by the end. >>23326220This is absolutely normal. I fucking hated Basara up until episode 20. Now he's my favorite character among a few others.
Is it too much to ask wanting a more grounded next Macross show. Something that explores other offsprings of the protoculture, rogue Zendradi and such and none of that idol nonsense? Well, you gotta have at least one singer but tone it down, please.

>>23329272Thats the faggiest opinion I've ever heard.
>>23329335this
we need the opposite. I was really upset with Macross as a franchise when it dialed back the more overtly supernatural aspects after 7. If music is going to play a big part in the franchise, they need to make it matter more and they need to make it flashy it shouldn't just have idols as an excuse to push sales
Did anyone else drop this show after 3 episodes? I enjoyed Robotech as a kid, found out about macross and enjoyed that. Was lukewarm to macross 2, enjoyed DYRL, loved Plus, enjoyed Zero, was alright with Frontier. But 7 and Delta just didn't hold me.
>>23329272You walked into a 7 thread. You already knew how this question would go over. I myself would love a less flashy more gritty macross where the main character is an actual military recruit that gets gud through practice, combat experience, and the luck needed to just survive. I'd love for the idol to a play the role of moral support and uplifting the spirits of the fighters and solders instead of being the straight up weapon. I don't want rogue Zentradi, I want the one of the protags to be not-micronized traditionalist that is still aligned with the good guys so we can see life from their aspect as they help defend the fleet from the badguys. Make the fleet cut-off from the NuUN or even rogue/anti-NuUN separatist that just wants to live peacefully out from under their thumb. IDGAF about the enemy so insert whatever will sell the toys/models/etc here. I want the music to be good and to be used to inspire the people as they fight, to pull them out of the funk of actually emotional hardship as they face loss and terrible odds.... Well, see you next moeshit.
>>23329831What you want just isn't macross.
>>23329845I guess not, at least not what macross has become.
>>23329849>what macross has becomeYeah back in 82.
>>23329831>I'd love for the idol to a play the role of moral support and uplifting the spirits of the fighters and solders instead of being the straight up weaponSadly, that ship has long sailed, especially after Delta, where they took the concept of music as a weapon to such a ridiculous degree that it bordered on parody. Realistically, the only thing I ask for in the next series is that they scale back the scope of the conflict and the size of the cast; Delta had way too many characters, most of whom were pointless. Even within the idol group, the pink-haired girlโs entire character was basically, "my boobs are big and I'm a lesbian, maybe." Iโm open to any style of music, and Iโm also fine with them dropping the love triangle angle altogether. If theyโre going to half-ass it again like they did in Delta, Iโd rather they just focus on developing a single relationship. Also, I hope they drop the whole 'Lady M' thing, because the thought of them dragging the original cast into what Macross has become kind of pisses me off
>>23319784this one is pretty good might have to check this one out. has some genuine emotion behind it.
Im not a huge G-gundam fan but I think it had some pretty good music in its OST. Not sure if all of it was even used in the show or not but i think a lot of tracks in i would BTFO most in this thread. Dont even particularly like the show but whoever did the music obviously put a lot into it.

Macross blows everyone away when it comes to the OST. Delta tried to be different because Gundam has saturated the West with the typical 'who has the biggest gun' dick measuring contest (and because of legal bullshit) Macross has been suppressed. >>23396762>so that means I'd die in the middle of the trip without getting anywhere.Granted, even the better STL estimates that would probably still be the case.
>>23397964watched the movies first, glad and mad I did, but for Labyrinth of Time, it helped that it went off the movie plot line (some wild fucking changes they made in that). Cute watch, odd seeing those characters so clear and high def as well.
>>23399699>eeing those characters so clear and high def as well.slightly older Ranka is a super babe
>>23399044not that guy but an estimate like that is almost certainly based on the speed of the only probes we sent out of the solar system

>To compare, Proxima Centauri, the closest star to the Sun, is about 4.2 light-years (2.65ร105 AU) distant. If the spacecraft was traveling in the direction of that star, it would take 73,775 years to reach it.
