I thought that version went that he kept hallucinating her motivating him to keep going with his plans even after Gigi gave him a perfectly reasonable out from Mafty. It was only when he was about to executed that the actual ghost of Quess came by to tell him it was all bullshit and she never loved him to stick the knife in that he fought for absolutely nothing. Personally I think the actual events work better, but it portrays Quess as being so spiteful even in death that it is kind of funny.

the only line from zeta that has anything to do with it is that char couldn't sense lalah's spirit when he was fucking around on axis, but he could sense her once he came back to the earthsphere

amuro is an even stronger newtype and he stays firmly on the earth in zeta because he doesn't want to meet lalah's spirit at all
