I'm enjoying it so far. It's a fun show, I just think it needed another 12 episodes because the pacing is all over the place. I think the story itself and the concepts are cool, just some more episodes to really develop them. As it stands 12 isn't enough to fit in clan battles, the Zeon spy shit, the alternate universe stuff AND the OYW flashback episodes without it feeling rushed or skimping out on the characterization.

Still, given that even the older Gundam shows have suffered from characterization issues I don't mind so much, and I like the freaky mecha designs. I hope it either receives more stuff down the line or gets another season.

There was never going to be enough time to flesh out all 4 houses, Benerit Group/Cathedra, the remnants of the Vanadis Institue/Shin Sei Development, the Space Assembly League, and Dawn of Fold in just 2 cour.

A second cour of Nyaan finding a place to belong fighting for Kycilia and feeling empowered as a "Diablo", and Matchu exploring Earth & the state of the Federation while searching for Shuji while bonding with Challia's Sodon Fleet. Because the school MS are piloted by students, they've specifically been modified to fit school settings with demilitarized settings, which ensures they can't target cockpits and have beam weapons at 30% less powerful.

I hate when people say this. I'll admit myself I am Wing's number 1 fucking hater by far, but I could still write so much more about Wing than I could GCucks. Not only that, but the mobile suit designs are excellent, distinctive and timeless.
But mostly Wing still feels like a different anime, almost entirely, than most derivatives of UC do.
And the most important thing is that even though these are still basically spinoffs of Gundam, they're still entirely standalone works of their own. In AGE's case it diverges pretty heavily from being 0079-like after Flit's arc, in G-Reco's case it's literally only similar to Turn A and maybe a little 00 because of the orbital elevator thing (which is a really cool settings piece, really).

What really gets me about GCucks is that it's really just a lolsorandumb Tsurumaki work wearing a Gundam skin. with gquuuux, the pacing is literal lightspeed but the show is definitely expecting you to be familiar with the UC setting. with Machu and Nyaan, they are 17 and as I get older, I do think that U21s are all practically children and having both of them behave like children was fun. BC of that both of them working with whims was pretty believable to me. Challia's conversation with Machu in ep 10 was quite endearing bc he genuinely wants kids like Machu and Nyaan to behave and make mistakes like you expect kids would. They're the perfect parallels to Char and Amuro's childish tendencies in 0079 because Char is a manchild and Amuro is an actual child.

My point of view has always been that I don't mind references, even ones that border on vulgar, as long as they are basically a bonus in service of a story or characters rather than being the entire point
I do not mind Gundam 00 ending with Setsuna basically fighting Evil Amuro Rey in the 00 universe's RX-78-2 and even throwing in some action shots inspired by the CCA climactic fight because it is still a distinct thing with it's own fully formed story, characters and identity.
GQ is not. There's nothing beneath the references. Scratch the surface and there's nothing under there.

i feel like UC has the same problem resident evil has. Where they keep advancing the fucking timeline so far it works against the franchise. never seems to be a net gain or positive. RE and Gundam UC should just both find ways to make more side stories that take place i earlier more popular points in their timelines even if they dont utilize the "main" characters.
