It was largely an experiment to test 2 things. If "foreign" written and produced gundam shows will succeed, and to test the viability of Unreal Engine 5 as a means to produce content faster and cheaper.

The pros:
>ground level view of mobile suits from the perspectives of soldiers.
They don't really do this enough in gundam so it's nice to see it when they do.

Some awesome zakus in the show, the GM and Gundam Ex are also great.

They use it with subtlety here- it's a good touch.

The Cons:

The show becomes much more enjoyable when you pretend it's an episode of love,death, robots or secret level. It's basically a machinima.

Best to kind of ignore her. She felt like bait for a different audience- maybe it worked but probably not. The OYW themed tattoos were a cool touch though.

For most of the show Iria was a good protagonist, felt like a solid example of making a female protagonist without it being a protagonist thats female- if that makes sense. If you're a big fan of 08th MS Team vibes or monoeyes then this show much be something unexpectedly enjoyable for you. I really hope we get an MG release of Irias final battle zaku. with the tank track armor and the scrapyard zaku skirting as a shield.

I'll be the first to admit that RfV's animation was subpar, especially when it comes to humans. It looks like a cutscene from a 15 year-old PS3 game. The mech fights were still S-tier, both in terms of making the mobile suits look as large and imposing as they should be and in terms of general fight choreography.

the only way gundam could possibly work as live-action would be if it was some sort of early-heisei/late-showa tokusatsu series and all the mech scenes are filmed using guys in rubber suits wrestling on scale-model sets. Regrettably it's too late for that, as the easy availability of computer graphics brought an end to the era of setting off explosives in rock quarries with stunt-doubles posing dangerously nearby a long time ago.

I went into it expecting basically western-UE5 made Igloo 3 and that's exactly what I got. And I say that as someone who actually likes Igloo 1.
