Ultraman Omega is gonna be crazy good.
>>23337310I do appreciate going back to the vagabond setting after several years of defense team
I hope omega uses it's 25 episodes wisely
>>23337736what do you mean by that? because the implication sounds like you want another overarching story and for an ultra show in this era, thats really gonna go nowhere
>>23337757NTA, but I guess I want them to be able to balance it. Like Orb did. It had a good over-arching storyline while managed to give some good MoTW scheme. Most shows have been heavy on one side
>>23337310Takesue will have his twisted villain with a tragic past who will get redeemed just before the finale again. And it will be shit, again.

>>23339016Does tsupro have a quadriped suit that looks good? The ones I've seen are obviously dudes squatting or crawling... and whatever
>>23311765 is.
>>23340110Dodongo and similar suits. Jumbo King uses the same suit construct, but its kind of variant is for the Ultra to perform bull riding with it. Zombayu is another Jumbo King-like suit, and Dyna also performed bull riding on it.
To me, what makes Ultraman "Ultraman" is that at the end of the day, it isn't just "Ultraman shows up and does cool things against monsters". Ultraman usually does have a deeper message that it wants to present and explore. And this is why shows like Ginga S and Z rank pretty low in my book cause the appeal of those shows really can boil down to "Ultraman shows up and does cool things against monsters"
>>23340446Yeah, I agree. That's why I prefer Arc over Blazar. Arc's episodes have a lot more weight to it. Even comedic episode like Kanegon came with educational value. Instead of just 'haha, look at this Ultra being a funny monke'
Tsubaraya just took down a youtube channel that had a shit ton of Ultraman episodes on it, fuck.
>>23341384Avanaf is gone?
>>23341384It's weird that they actually fine with those channels because they're not monetized.
Sometimes I prefer them because the official channel keep trying to add those "borders" on the left and right screen for every shows before the widescreen era.
>>23342787not too familiar with copyright laws but wouldnโt they lose their copyright if they didnโt protect it like this?
>>23342793That's to do with trademarks I.e. Brand names and logos, the protections on those would be diminished if they didn't sue the shit out of Blue Arc/Chaiyo back then.
Copyright for produced works is automatically granted until it enters public domain which is like 70 years or something in JP

>>23337300 (OP)I've never watched Ultraman before
Can I start with Nexus as long as I understand that the rest of the franchise isn't like it?
Compared to the hilarity of Jirahs, the original Gomess suit was actually really cleverly modified to the point where you can't see the Godzilla at a glance.
>>23348978yes it's nothing like Blazar
am i blind or has the official channel really not uploaded the original show? are they that dedicated to the anniversary thing that theyโre waiting a year?
>>23348732Even his fight scenes weren't good.
Yup, Basser suit is gone. Also that new insect kaiju looks very Nexus
>>23348978no. Nexus is an awful place to start. Start with 66, Tiga, or Max instead.
is Ultraseven a good starting point?
>>23349908The metal parts on it look like an homage to Gigan
>>23350221no, its unlike any other Ultra series
>>23350470Why does that matter? It's the third Ultra show to exist. Plenty of people started there, and most people with taste still recognize it as the very best.
>>23350221If it's the one that sounds interesting to you then yes.
>>23348978just understand that this show was cancelled and the ending was rushed
Arc was overall pretty good despite its bland main cast.
>>23350923The crossover kinda killed the momentum for the series
>>23350923>>23351063pretty much. There is no need for the crossover.
>>23349252They already privated most of Ultraman '66 episodes right after Shin Ultraman released in 2022.
>>23351063>>23351129The Zangir episodes were good tho
>>23351063>>23351129You will get more crossover episodes by Takesue in Omega like the Blazar episode, whether you like it or not.
>>23351298It was. It should've just been zangir and zangir alone
>>23351373Not sure but at the time they only keep either the Zarab or Mephilas episode if I'm not remember wrong.
Sadly this is pretty much how the streaming era works, easy to access but they can be pulled/privated with different reasons.
>>23351298I wonder if Zangir gonna be in Omega although his ending on Arc is perfect.
>>23351948eh does he need to show up in Omega? Zangil's cameo in Arc was nice because they had that whole set up with Ishido and his coffee addiction.

Omega preview special.
>>23337310I have decent hopes for it
I really hope Ultraman can push to like 30 episode counts in the future. 24-25 doesn't feel enough. And please stop having so many recaps. Like why in the first place? even their chronicle stuff are just a compilation of recaps to air in the first half of the year.
How come rider and sentai don't need recaps??
>>23353271They needs recaps because the production can't handle it. They haven't been doing 25-episode series, they are all 28-episode series occupying 29-30 weeks.
Blazar was the biggest New Gen production to date according to Higuchi, and it took a massive toll on everyone.
>>23351063The episode with Blazar sucked overall, but I did appreciate seeing Blazar juxtaposed with another Ultra. The contrast between them was really funny
>>23353271Even 25 episodes feels like too much to me with how underdeveloped the recents plots and characters have been, and how sparse each series is with actually interesting episodes
>>23353271bumping it to 30 seems pointless. if I was the TV network, i'd just say fuck you and take the 25 you get. i'd rather they do UGF again to fill the other half of the year than have more episodes to account for bad writing. the solution here has always been better writing. Z and Decker never needed 30 episodes, yet they managed to flesh out their characters and had a pretty decent overarching story with the main focuses being on episodic stuff. arc had decent episodic content but dropped the ball on the last 2 episodes making it look like a sudden yaoi drama shoehorned into a tokusatsu show. what the actual fuck even was that?
>>23353488I guess because for me, 30 would be nice enough to spread the toy debuts more. sometimes I do feel the final form introduction is a bit too fast when i look at the episode count. then again, maybe having an off week with recaps help with that.
on the note of arc, that crossover with blazar was a bit lackluster too when it get to the final episode of it. underwhelming final execution.
>>23353488All of this just sounds to me like you've never watched showa/heisei Ultra, and don't understand what was lost with the smaller episode count
>>23353271Toei is a significantly more successful company than Tsubaraya
>>23352536so long, Basser suit
>>23353853Elaborate. I would love to hear the comparison between having lots of episodes like the early eras vs what we have now.
>>23353271Ultraman works with the 24/25 episode format imo because it's usually just 1 ultra vs various monsters. That episode count is just enough to explore the characters and plot. Otherwise it just becomes too formulaic, which would waste the time and money that could be spent elsewhere.
>>23353488"the last 2 episodes making it look like a sudden yaoi drama" buddy, the show was always like that.
>>23353853you do know showa and heisei were mostly episodic right? especially showa? the only one that was arguably wasnt episodic was Nexus.
>>23354561I'd guess he means how the show could spend a lot of time with completely standalone tales/monsters.
Although the original Ultra and 7 were completely episodic, and the later shows always forced any plot into two parters rather than having longer set ups.
The pastebin is in serious need of updating/cleaning up. A lot of the links don't work anymore. I was trying to find Heisei Ultraseven and it's an anidex link.
>>23354957All of Heisei except Max had some measure of plot. Nexus was (and still is) just the only Ultra show to not have any episodic stories whatsoever
>>23355610The EX episode is, but it wasn't aired on TV.
Is Omega looking like an ok entry point into the franchise? Haven't watched an Ultra series before and would be nice to follow one weekly
>>23356318There's nothing to indicate it's not a viable entry point as of yet.
>>23351063>>23351129The funny thing is, the episode that was supposed to lead into the crossover (where Arc fights an army using the training Zangill gives him) is way more fucking hype than the actual crossover.
>>23356333>Teaches Arc a special nippon-bonzai cherry blossom slash to defeat the crossover badguy>Arc doesn't use it on himHuh?
>>23356333>>23356358Yeah, that part was what i felt underwhelming and even weird. feels like there was a miscommunication during the making of the episodes or something.

>>23357283I mean Blazar, Arc, Omega
>>23357283idk, MANAKA KENGO is more involved than Daigo was in Dyna, but both Dyna and Decker still have vague origins that are barely related to their predecessors.
>>23357307Yeah, but if you want an actual beginner friendly, Decker isn't the best for that. I do think it's fine to watch it first regardless

Airing tomorrow.
Hoping that Omega would bring me back. Blazar disappointed me while Arc despite having good episodes ultimately didn't made me care enough of it.
Hell I think Arc's memorable episodes for me are the long distance alien relationship, Zangil coffee stuff (till Blazar ruined it which is why the crossover is a disappointment to many) and the Arc and Yuma sitting in the theater.
>>23365010Arc was a very good series and I think it will be looked back upon more fondly as the years go by
>>23365010Maybe you're just too old for this
I think the issue with Blazar's crossover on Arc stems from the overhype prior to the 4th episode. People were expecting the typical crossover shenanigans but the most we got was Blazar throwing Arc away
>>23365010I just love Ultraman.
>>23365010Have you tried watching other ultra shows?
>>23365237Since Tiga. Arc was clearly a throwback to Showa series which is a jam to people but not really my cup of tea.
>>23365069This. The crossover had an extremely good setup with Zangil especially when he sees Yuma reminds him of Gento and then we see a silhouette of Blazar which only builds up the hype. So when the crossover happened but Arc and Blazar barely interacted it killed all the hype. Which is a shame because Zangil teaching Arc the special move, as well as Arc cloning himself to defeat hordes is such a creative use.
>>23365051Arc will at least be looked more favorably compared to Blazar. I think it's because the way Arc marketed itself, it specifically states that it's a Showa homage season so people know what to expect, compared to Blazar which people mistakenly assume it will be like Nexus or Shin Ultraman and whatnot.
>>23365088To be fair it's not like I hate Blazar or Arc. Compared to them I still immensely dislike Trigger and even then there are some stuff from Trigger that I like. But for Reiwa Ultra I'd say Z and Decker are much more preferable, and they're not perfect series either.

>Finally, tomorrow the journey of #UltramanOmega begins!
As a child, I visited Ultraman Land many times, feeling Ultraman's strength and kindness even at a young age. Ayumu appears from episode 2, but with childhood memories in my heart, Iโll watch the broadcast starting tomorrow. May it reach everyone around the world Tomorrow at 9 AM!
Apparently, China had a Ultra Stage show with an original character for the Ultra Fight Galaxy, Graffias. This happened in 2023. He was supposed to be the exile Cosmo Beast warrior that was exile from planet D60. He's a have a scorpion Cosmo Beast based on the Scorpius constellation and his elemental power is Earth. Story writer, Junichiro Ashiki, even wish he could bring it to Japan.

>>23365877Actually, it was Ashiki who created the character.
>>23366854You probably should've learned by now that the first episode will always be unorthodox and feature way more special effects compared to the rest of the series which follows that standard New Gen episodic format
>>23366890The radio hosts are Darrgon & Pega's VAs?
I like how the radio hosts narrating the episode preview.
>>23366900To be honest almost every toku are like this, gotta make a good first impression.
>>23366900eh, I'd argue Arc was very consistant with its effectswork, scale, and tone all the way through. Same with Z.
So do we know if next yearโs series will continue with the armor gimmick and new kaiju, or go back to multiple forms and more reused kaiju
>>23366945All we know it's celebrating 60th anniversary of the franchise and involving Zero.
>>23366955>60th anniversary of the franchiseJesus fuck you telling me it's been 20 years since Mebius?
>>23366839Yup, Omega is basically the Man archetype of fin but turned to a slugger
>>23366774Hmm, the closeup to the kaiju's eye closing and 'full' corpse being there. Are they setting up something?

>>23367260We're talking about an entire fight, which was what Arc debut clash was. Sure one take shot is commonly used but something like Arc was a new record

>>23367266More or less, not the entire thing apparently. Did it even actually reach 3 minutes?
>>23367269Just pointing out that it's cool
>>23366774The fight in Arc's first episode was way better, but I liked the introduction of the MCs more in Omega
>>23367269we just pointed it out as being part of the trend. I can name the others (the close compositing of Haruki and Gomess in Z's first ep, the underwater fight and doll explosion model in Trigger's pilot, the fact that Blazar's first ep felt incredibly cinematic, etc.)

>>23366791I mean, they at least have him remember his name and details about the kaiju slowly over the course of the first episode. So that's a good start.
Watched Ultraman for the first time since I was a kid. And man, that was a pretty decent first episode.
Omega looks cool, his human form is fun, Kousei looks like a good deuteragonist. That opening fight scene on the alien planet was dope. Nice to see how far tokusatsu has come.
>>23367284Fight scene has never been Takesue's strength unfortunately.

Masayuki Gotoh interview about Omega design
>Of course, we wanted to depict an existence that was completely different from Ultraman from M78 Nebula and all the Ultraman that had appeared so far, so the director wanted a different look from the past, and the red face was a specific instruction from the director. He also mentioned that he wanted the design to be simpler, so I understood that it could not be designed with a posture like armor on the hands and feet, and we pushed forward with the design based on this.
>Regarding the balance between red and silver, we tried again and again. We also drew a version with a red mouth, that is, the whole face was red. There was also a plan with a wider mouth, which was a bit like Batman. Because Omega has a slugger, we also proposed a Seven-type face, but using my painting style, the face would look a bit fierce. This character is not that style this time, and a gentler face is needed, so it became the current design. The eyes were originally a sharp shape with a bit of sharp edges, but gradually became slightly rounded during the adjustment process. The eyes use the same process as Z. Every time I ask LSS to help make a few more plans, I found out that Z's eye style was the most suitable, so I adopted that plan.
>>23367407>I have always had a wish in my heart, which is to design a character who is equipped with a slugger in the basic form for the first time since Ultraman Zero. Although Z has the slugger skill, the slugger itself cannot actually be detached, so this time I want to make a slugger that can be physically detached.>This idea came about because I thought of a new way to wear a slugger. I thought that if I wear it on the head in the opposite direction (like Seven's slugger), I might be able to design a slugger that is integrated into the head of the first generation. Although it seems that this design has not caused much discussion (laughs), I think this actually shows that it is integrated very naturally.>The color and shape were not like this at the beginning. We also tried to paint it silver like Seven. The slugger itself has a curve, not a plate-shaped corner like the first generation Ultraman, but it has added some thickness. For example, Trigger is like this, which is a continuation of this idea.
>>23367409>One of the things I wanted to try this time was to change the way the color timer is presented. The director asked for a completely new visual effect, so this was a good opportunity to realize my idea (laughs). So I wondered if I could create a light effect with depth on the color timer. After asking the modeling team to try it over and over again, we finally decided on the current plan. In fact, this structure has several layers. A filter with many small holes is placed on the light source. On top of that, there is a transparent part with spiral patterns. When they are combined, a light with a sense of depth can be expressed, as if you can feel the vastness of the Milky Way. We made many different hole patterns for the filter and many different spiral patterns, and tried various combinations before finally making it. After repeated experiments, we finally completed the appearance of this unprecedented color timer.>Although the brow is bulging, I designed it with the concept that "the area above this bulge, including the silver part where the slugger is installed, is a part added later." Although this is not an official setting (laughs), it is a special part for the slugger added later. For example, imagine it as if a fighter pilot is wearing a helmet. The bulging outline of the ear part is also influenced by this.

>>23369269youre forgetting Arc. I know his head is a little weird but the same can be said for Ginga's head. Arc's body batterns are very basic and showa-like. Valgeness Armor description from color
>Looks a bit like Guan Yu.
>The armor color is mainly gold and supplemented by red. It has a strong Chinese style. It seems to refer to the ancient Chinese armor. It really has the flavor of the Chinese style Ultraman that Goto has drawn before.
>The armor covers the shoulders, forearms, calves, back and both sides of the chest armor. There is a collar, which really feels like wearing a piece of armor. The hands and feet have turned golden, and the slugger has become a flame pattern of red and gold intertwined. Although the overall look is gorgeous because of the color matching, the armor is not bloated. It looks even lighter than the Rekiness and Trigaron. It feels that this form truly embodies the concept of "lightweight" mentioned by Goto.
>The weapon valgeness halberd is a very typical reference to the ancient Chinese double-winged spear. The double swords on both sides of the spear head are the wings of the valgeness. The tail of the valgeness is the main trunk of the halberd, which is equivalent to holding a whole tail of the valgeness. The spear head is the golden prismatic part at the end of the tail, which contains a sky blue prismatic crystal, and the tail of the spear is the head of the valgeness. The weapon color is also mainly golden red, and the gun barrel is gray.
>The Chinese style outer armor weapon with Omega's big red face really gives you a sense of Guan Yu, but overall it is quite good and well-matched.
>>23371974Additional comment from color
>It looks a bit festive, and it is also suitable to place it at home during the Chinese New Year.>I suspect the size of the Valgeness Halberd DX toy will be similar to the second picture.>If Rekiness and Trigaron emphasize asymmetrical design, then Valgeness armor is a very symmetrical design on both sides.
>>23371948We still have no idea what Gingaโs backstory is
Watching Ultraman gave me a giant fetish.... Also why is it all the ultramans with Belial as a component are all extremely attractive
>>23371974>>23371977I know that the armors/meteokaiju are meant to represent the 4 symbols, but the way how Ultraman have been doing the transformation/armor thing in the Reiwa era brings up some question. It's usually the strong form, speed form, sometimes a random extra form, and finally the ultimate form. However, seeing how they're clearly not following that guideline for this Ultraman (like Blazar), I wonder if they will use the fifth symbol, the golden dragon as the ultimate form or as a movie exclusive form?
>>23370868Z has broad /m/ appeal
Orb is a great "entry point"

Dyna absolutely fucks
>>23371974>>23371977Hah, I was about to ask if color has seen what valginess is like. Sounds pretty cool. Hopefully the weight of the armor props won't be too heavy for the suit actor.
On another note: why not they just made this a whole different form. From the sound of its design and being lightweight, might as well make it a whole different suit.
Will Omega having the same shiny gem-type eyes as Z lead to anything?
>>23372109At least according to the design notes
>>23367407, the Z style eyes seem like they came about mostly due to it looking the best for Omega's head.
>>23371974Oh finally a spear weapon for final form
>>23371983Ginga, X, Z. Blazar, we'll never know. Probably Omega too.
>>23372095Possibly not, considering that we haven't got a movie form since Taiga did it last. Frankly I miss mid-season penultimate forms, but understandable why they had to be cut.
>>23372127Did Dyna have a true origin?
>>23372173Asuka's father turned into a being of light because of Zero Drive experiment.
>>23372176Is that official or speculation though? Other versions I've heard were
>Asuka inheriting the light from the ending version of himself who found his Dad in hyperspace >Asuka (and Dad) reaching M78, mentioned in the OP (Ultra no hoshi)
>>23372205it's from the novel
>>23371974>>23371977>>23372095Might not happen either. Guess there's just no turtle Meteokaiju, then, if there aren't any more hacked sounds on the Omega Slugger.
>>23372214If they are only having 3 meteokaiju, they should use a triangle not pentagon
>>23372214it feels like they fused two of each of the mythical beast. like trigaron does have both elements of the tiger and the turtle. but that could just be me.
>>23372173If we're counting Heisei then Cosmos too right? Justice arguably counts but at the very least she is affiliated with an organization of sorts.
>>23372218That's what I thought too since Rekiness has red feathery parts alongside the blue scaled dragon bits, but now they are saying there's a fire-based suzaku, breaking that theory.

>>23366774Finally got around to watching the first episode. Pretty good start. Really like that Omega's identity isn't hidden.
>>23366774I really really liked it. It felt almost like a short film rather then a first episode.

>>23366774The fish out of water angle feels a lot better here in Omega than it did in Mebius, at least so far. Really enjoying how Omega just doesn't give a fuck. He's curious, but emotionally detached, unlike Mirai, who felt way too human
It's good to have an Ultra taking on a human appearance again, haven't really had one since Geed, and it feels like it actually matters here. I hope we'll be getting to see some of Omega's past with how they had the big exciting first battle without any context
Iโm currently almost halfway through watching Tiga for the first time. Should I watch the movie directly after or should I wait?
>>23372971Relax. They wanted something fun to watch in a group setting.
>>23373211There are some cameos from Dyna characters that you wouldn't appreciate. It's set between the shows so you could say it's bridging the gap but if you're thinking about watching Dyna then I'd say watch Dyna before the movie so you get the most out of it.
>>23373227Iโm definitely planning to watch Dyna so Iโll wait thanks for the advice. I started at Seven and have watched every show up to Tiga. I did skip taro though just because it looked too wacky.
>>23373235Taro is honesty really good because itโs so sincere in its wackiness
>>23373244I did end up watching the eleking episode just because I love eleking and it was quite good
>>23373235Taro honestly wasn't wacky enough for me
Like sure, it had some utterly bonkers episodes, but it also had shit like a two parter following a group of kids whose parents died in an airplane crash while a monster blotted out the sun and covered the entire world in darkness and it just felt so out of place
The average Taro episode wasn't that dark, but most of them also didn't measure up to that one episode in the beginning where Kotaro got trapped inside a kaiju, prompting ZAT to fly in a giant pepper shaker to get the kaiju to sneeze Kotaro out
Show couldn't make up its damn mind
>>23373262Dude what are you talking about, the show is consistently wacky
>>23372418IT SHOULDVE BEEN ME
>>23373262Leo also had this problem but switched around you have really dark episodes. and then you episodes where Leo gets shrunken. a real identity crisis. and the plots featuring kids always sucked

Omega's the first Ultra show I'm watching, have watched KR, Sentai, and Garo previously
Is Ultra like KR and Sentai where each show is a self-contained canon but they crossover in movies and stuff? Also it doesn't get episode threads on here?
>>23378342Ultraman continuity gets a bit more complicated and closer to something like Gundam typically. There's a few different timelines and settings, with several shows based on a "main" timeline that stems back to the original Ultraman, but there are also numerous one-off isolated canon settings. Some are AUs of each other. The "multiverse" separating all of these continuities is also not only explicitly canon, but repeatedly invoked and interacted with in-setting and many characters can travel between these continuities as they please while there are also parallel isotopes of other ones.
Generally put there's well over 30 of these "continuities" but only a few are ever particularly relevant outside of the world of the current show:
>World of the Land of Light (Basically Ultra's Universal Century, is the original timeline and as of lately is usually only depicted in web series like the Ultra Galaxy Fight stuff but characters from it do like to show up in the shows sometimes)>Neo Frontier (Another universe where the OG Ultraman and Land of Light never existed, Ultraman Tiga and Dyna are from this one and Trigger/Decker are basically a branch of that one)>World of O-50 (Another universe where many Ultras actually got their power from a mysterious sentient force called the Ring of Light on planet O-50, Ultras from this setting have some sort of circle or ring motif going on in their design, also this gay alien with a katana named Juggler is from here)>World of N (Setting of Ultraman Nexus, only one show and movie are set here but he's popped up in a couple crossovers)Generally each modern show is some branch off of the World of Land of Light with some exceptions - particularly in the modern shows like Blazar, Arc, and (likely) Omega, which are intentionally very isolated.
>>23378342Continuity rarely matters.
>>23378402Yeah
You don't really lose anything if you watch Z before Orb, really. They're made for five year old kids
>>23378362O-50 is not where R/B takes place btw
>>23379078I remember at some point Orb was treated like the second coming of Zero.
Geed didn't do it probably because he's having crossover with Orb in the movie anyway, but then R/B have the same O-50 origin and an Orb-fanboy alien as the antagonist of the first half.
And then Fuma being from O-50 too, but now we saw more of Juggler than Orb himself.
is Redman popular with girls?
>>23379098>I remember at some point Orb was treated like the second coming of Zero.Speaking of Orb, have they ever released what the big story planned for Orb was? I remember there was supposed to be this big Saga with multiple installments planned with prequels an sequels to the show. But none of it ever panned out, outside of the Origin show and the movie, iirc.
>>23379113They only show the blurb for each "episodes," but around Z they made a Juggler photoshoots that involving an alien girl named Biranki that mentioned in one of the episodes.
Biranki is portrayed by Hikari Kuroki, same actress as Yuka from Z, so Juggler got reminded of Biranki when he met Yuka years after.
With next year being Orb 10th anniversary, I wonder if they'll explore the 10 Episodes Plan again.
>>23379147>They only show the blurb for each "episodes," but around Z they made a Juggler photoshoots that involving an alien girl named Biranki that mentioned in one of the episodes. >Biranki is portrayed by Hikari Kuroki, same actress as Yuka from Z, so Juggler got reminded of Biranki when he met Yuka years after.Neat.
>With next year being Orb 10th anniversary, I wonder if they'll explore the 10 Episodes Plan again. That'd be pretty cool. Maybe provide a clearer, more detailed outline instead of the blurbs, if they're not gonna actually make the episodes.
>>23379078>O-50 is not where R/B takes place btwThe show does not take palce there, but Rosso and Blue specifically are from that world. Tsuburaya continuity.
