That's the worst part of this whole finale. It had nothing to with Machu's character up to that point. If you're going to end the show with the main character shouting out loud the conclusion to her character arc... at least make it related to what's been established. Make her talk about how "being a newtype means being free" or something!
I'm not upset that the portrayal of newtypes is different from what's been established. They're space wizard, you can play loosely with the idea. GQuuuuuux changing things doesn't take anything away for Tomino's shows, they're separate entities.
But failing to keep track of character traits and motivations that are setup in this very show is just bad writing.

That's pretty clear yeah. And it doesn't feel like it comes out of nowhere either, Machu clearly empathizes with Lalah even if it's not super clear because she basically treating the one stuck in the Elmeth and the Lalah she met on earth as the same person.

Maybe it's the french subtitles that messed something up but I was having a really hard time following Machu and Shuji's dialogue.
I don't know. the last two episodes really soured my opinion of the show. I'll give it a rewatch eventually and maybe I'll come around to it.

Honestly Shuji being part of Lalah's reset ritual feels like it just adds a pointless middleman. Lalah just doing it herself while dreaming, not realizing she is creating and destroying realities, is a much cleaner idea and doesn't require a character to be consciously choosing to genocide universes.

They really don't, I wonder if there was something more planned for those characters at some point. They hardly get a scene together, we mostly get Comoli worrying about Xavier and questioning the motives of Chalia. I don't know if we can call that chemistry.

Machu blushed a lot and had a huge crush on Shuji...and that's it? Shuji was only a plot device so him having feelings at the end came out of nowhere.
Especially given the whole speech Machu gives about how Shuji is in love with Lalah so he should let her wake up from her "dream".

If anything the way she speaks to Shuji seems to indicate that she's ready to move on. Her kissing Shuji before he disappears by magic kinda makes sense in a "love that can never bear fruits" kind of way.
But then why end on Machu saying she wants to find Shuji...gain.

Who do you want to see write for Gundam next? I'd like to witness what Jun Kumagai is capable of.
