I think that the post mortem take regarding sales is that it's hard to sell toys that get no screentime. That guntank model is awesome but it was only around for an episode. The gelgoog models were barely featured at all.

Some in Japan treat it as funny meme slop. Other treat it as a touching story where lalah and Char end up together.
I think many think Machu was kinda weak for most of the story. At least they don't think it's completely good. But it's still entertaining. And sometimes that's all a work needs to be.

personally I dont mind some of the redesigns but they dont translate well to model kits. for some reason the joints where heavily simplified even in the anime so the models end up looking very cheap and very action figure-esque

On the Anikore rankings, it dipped a bit after episode 11, but now it's back up above Build Divers and Thunderbolt S1, but it's below ZZ, The Origin, Thunderbolt S2, and SEED HD Remaster.

Hell if I know. I haven't watched a single episode yet since I want to bulk torrent the first season but I was following the ratings, jap review sites were at 3 stars/60% last week but suddenly jumped up to 3.5-4 stars/70-80% now that S1 is over. Did a specific episode piss them off mid season or was it all meh but had a good enough finale to up the ratings?
