This thing is a very quick build. I see what that guy was talking about the other day, about forbidden gundam without the pack. It's very good looking.
So far as work all I've done is paint the black parts a darker tone and sharpen the fin. I am thinking of painting a lot of the gray parts various shades of silver.

Saw a RG RX-93ff relatively cheap in a local online store, anyone know if the kit is any good? Never build a real grade before.

I am a big fan of the thick, chunky legs because it inherently will make kits more stable. we saw it with WFM and IBO designs. Small hip plates at the front and high hip plates on the side means this bitch was built from the ground up with the intention of making a kit that can be posed in a variety of positions.

The backpack fins look dumb but you can tell that this kit was designed to have multiple forms.

I bought the whole batch cause it was relatively cheap. They're incredible. My only gripe is sometimes the tips fray a little, but you can just smooth it out in some plastic. Just be warned: they're acrylic, so they can rub off pretty easily without a coat.

I realised today that Lightning Buster already has a very similar backpack cannon setup to what I am building for my artillery build. Clearly I have been incepted by Seed Freedom without even realising it.

I picked one up from the bargain bin at my local HobbyCo, and put the backpack together to try it out.

Enamels can just be wiped away if you mess up without leaving any trace while cleaning up acrylics usually involves painting over them, so they're better for detail painting.
Lacquers dry much quicker than acrylics take to cure and have glossy finishes, so they're better for airbrushing gunpla.
Acrylics are fine but they just aren't the best tool for this specific task most of the time.

Nothing. Tamiya acrylics used to be quite popular for gunpla especially in the 2000s, but there's really no reason to. They actually offer no benefits once you pull out the airbrush, any dried acrylics get gummy and are annoying as fuck to clean out. Your result for dealing with that little annoyance is that you get a dramatically weaker paint that takes a whole lot more work to do anything like chrome/candy colours/high gloss finishes.

For the first you could, but it wouldn't be as smooth. With getting a gloss finish, a lot of acrylic paints have a rough texture and it's hard to regloss things well. You may as well start with paints that are smooth and then have the final clear coat determine the sheen. If it is just two or three colors with good separation, then airbrushing everything with lacquer is easier. It's stuff like artpla with very little color separation and lots of colors where you would go in and hand paint a lot with acrylics.

No. Acrylic is never easier to use, if we're talking spraypainting. Lacquer is infinitely easier to use, people are just afraid they will immediately catch cancer when they inhale the mustard gas fumes from even looking at the bottle. Waterbased glosses are ass for glossy paintjobs, they're not durable enough to be sanded or polished. The same can't be said for alchohol acrylics like X-22 or its mr hobby aqueous equivalent, those can be sanded + polished within an hour at the earliest.

I’m probably biased but because I mainly like painting the grunt type suits, things like zaku, Gelgoogs, Goufs, etc in subdued “realistic” paint schemes, I don’t think it really matters much if the paint scheme comes out in a high gloss. I would even argue a lot of stuff looks better in a low gloss or even a matte. Same like GM stuff like GM ground type or GM cold district, etc. so I do think there is a use case where the acrylic is just more practical. or even just doing a rattle can job well in good temperature in even light coats. just my opinion of course.


If I was doing a high gloss on a suit like that I do think maybe you would be better going all out and maybe breaking out some other types of paint though for more exotic looking models.

I’ve done some light lacquer stuff in the past but that was just with rattle cans not even in an airbrush. One of the testors lines I believe for model cars. They came out perfectly smooth though and looked good. Was HG scale.

But took the parts outside into my side yard and sprayed outside holding my breath. Idk how bad the off fumes are from that though having the parts all in the garage with minimal airflow with the side door open to the garage and the garage door cracked half way. I don’t really enjoy the extra set up working with paints like that. I may end up getting a paint booth eventually but even then I doubt you are removing even 90% of whatever fumes from your work room. I’m not going to lie though that airbrush lacquers in a booth of a candy coat kit aren’t superior though if that’s the finish you want. For a stock grunt suit in matte using an airbrush I think acrylic is more than sufficient. a bit of texture probably even looks better intentional or not.

Well here's the secret: you're treating this shit like it's 100x more dangerous than it is. Spray into a spraybooth going out the window, do your business, leave the room. These paints are toxic, yeah, you don't want to huff them or anything intentionally. But the dangers of lacquer fumes are really not that relevant for your average hobbyist spraying a few kits a year. They're for people airbrushing cars and filling an entire garage full of fumes, buying and using paint by the actual gallon. You're not dealing with bottled hyperspace aids.

The frame parts are Mr. Color Metal Black which I'll be top coating with matte clear. The red will get gloss clear then polished, I don't normally go with glossy, but I think all this red in matte or satin will look too dull for the area it takes up.

The lower legs and backpack were AIDS. The red trim part on the leg can be modified to be assembled after seam filling but the fuel tank has to be painted and sealed in before removing the lower leg seam. I didn't see any of the fixes for the backpack after I already started but there are a couple ways that are less retarded and more clever than just seam removing it and painting it as one piece. Also I more or less butchered the backside of the thigh part. Sanded ofd the detail when seam removing, sanded down too much, redid the detail poorly with plaplate, went to scribe in the outline of the raised part, but my smallest scribe was 0.2 pure dulled chinesium and it came out pretty messy. Besides that I'm content. I've used up all my gloss and have less than a third of a leveling thinner bottle left so I guess this will be the last for me until leafland gets a restock on mr hobby stuff

My biggest issue with Gquuuuuux is the gundam head. I like the body quite a bit. It's not very gundam-y I suppose, but I think there are some creative ideas incorporated into it. Agreed on GFred's head being better but some of the color use on it ruins it for me. I don't really like that brightest shade of lime green or the orange.

Would have been nice if they were a separate part like on the red gundam. The honeycomb pattern is molded into the part and is a separate piece that pokes through the face part. Also speaking of the red gundam, that's another one that has grown on me quite a bit too. It's egregious in the original rx-78-2 colors but I think the red suits the design a lot better and I imagine it was probably designed more so with that in mind. I also think that it being from the Xth iteration of the alt history Lala's cope dream universe helps make it a bit more tolerable than just simply being a redesign of the rx-78-2. The kit also has almost no seams and the only ones there are are so small that I probably won't even bother filling them. I can see why snapfriends might not be happy with it because of the colors but I think it'll be fun to paint.

There's nothing special about it? The suit can generate micro-black holes. The shield has an i-field generator and can manipulate the black holes for defense. The beam saber can morph shape into whatever form is needed, and runs on a neon light-like continuous loop instead of a large field filled with plasma. The head unit contains extradimensional psychoframe and Amuro's soul within it, and can act autonomously. About the only ordinary thing on it is the beam rifle.

That's all pretty interesting to me.
