It's a movie. Link to the teaser

Director is Yuuichi Fukuda, who mostly writes for dramas, including the Gintama movies (with the teaser here heavily playing off on that Gintama connection, saying the main character here isn't a hero, has silver hair or part of the yorozuya).

Official site is up, and there he comments on how watching the original anime he always admired how they could get with parodies and loves his chance at getting to write it this time.

There are supposed to be many surprising guest voice actors to be announced too.

Probably too new, since the script has to be finished before any storyboarding and then animation can be done.

Probably will do Unicorn references though since they even have merch for that.

Is this the anime project they teased a while back? Or is there going to be a movie AND a new anime series?

So far, this seems to be the only 20th anniversary anime project announced. People were assuming there'd be a movie in 2026 and a series in 2025 due to an interview with director interview with the director Fumitoshi Oizaki (who also directed the teaser) where he mentioned working on an anime series for spring 2025 and a movie for 2026. Since he worked on the Keroro new anime teaser, everyone seemed to assume both were Keroro, but the 2025 anime directed by him was completely unrelated.

If there's any series at all it'd be only after this movie, since the movie is being marketed as Keroro's return.

Reached number 1 trending on Japanese twitter, with other Keroro related tags also trending, so at least it seems there was a lot of interest on the announcement.

I was poking around JP twitter, and it seems like some fans aren't happy about the director choice. Something along the lines of, "When he does good work, it's good. But when it, bad, it's REALY bad." I've watched S1 of Yoshihiko, and thought it was funny. But that's all I've seen from him.

Apparently when working in adaptations he can be quite lax with the source material, which is something some people are fearing here apparently. Like even if it's a success it might not feel like Keroro.

I guess I can see it even from his speech about loving Keroro for the freedom with parodies, so that probably will be quite a focus in the movie.

Personally, always felt like outside of Movie 3, the Keroro movies generally didn't have -enough- comedy compared to the series, so I'm looking forward whatever comes out of this.

Yeah, regardless, I'm happy we finally get new animated Keroro content.

Pretty much all of the movies are action-packed. Which is cool, especially with the huge animation budget. But I agree, I'd rather have more comedy... its what they do best and what I like most about the manga.

Why is it under "Bandai Namco Pictures" instead of Sunrise proper?

We knew that for a while, actually. When the split happened, Keroro got moved to Bandai Namco Pictures even though there wasn't anything actually in production at the time.

Isnt he stuck in that one with shitty DLC that imbalanced too or am I thinking of something else?

Yeah, SRW OE for the PSP. It was "episodic", with the later episodes being DLC, even outside of that it pretty much required grinding to progress at times (rather than it being optional like in 30) AND a lot more shows than usual were plotless there.

This director added a goofy Char cameo to the Gintama movie (When Gintoki visits the inventor/mechanic Gensai Char is there too to see if the repairs on his Zaku are finished - this scene wasn't in the manga or anime). I wonder if we'll actually see something like that here - Char or some other UC Gundam character appearing for no reason. Build Fighters already did the Gundam cameo stuff too so it wouldn't even be that odd.
