Any opinions on "mechanical clear"?

Grunt mecha never really made sense to me, huge highly complex machines like that will never really be cost effective to mass produce and would require too much training for mass deployment
I prefer mechs being reserved for highly trained aces and deployed alongside regular armor and infantry

Votoms pretty much answered that question. AT are just objectively worse than tanks in term of survivability, in exchange of high mobility and be more versatile in usage. They are so cheap and shitty, the only fuel to run them is a cheap, explosive property that will kill the pilot upon ignition. They are literally an empty box with limbs, too, which is pretty simple, mechanically.

Why was it blunted and extended? The Gyan's original spike is essentially a copy of Prussian/German spiked helmet, possibly even spiked helmets from earlier in human history. This is just an awkward rod on the back. I think one could make a very strong argument as to why it's inferior.

Since there's absolutely no chance of this absolute unit ever getting an official kit. I'm going to make my own. I ripped the model for it from GBO2 and I'm going to use that as a base to create a 3D printed kit. I'll post updates here periodically.

The majority of the budget went into the huge shit mold that comes with each kit, all the extra bits like the eyes and limbs and accessories are probably a single runner that cost them like $2 to design and will have like 20 parts at most between everything. Bandai does these sorts of kid oriented lines regularly (Like that spy gadget line a few years back), the entire budget of those entire lines is probably like half an HG kit.

Japan is still 72% of sales to Bandai compared to the rest of the world combined being 27.8%. You may think Bolinoak Samanh is a nothing burger, but you underestimate how strong nostalgia and feels are for the Gundam fan. Zeta is extremely popular in Japn, why do you think Katoki released a Zeta for the anniversay of the Ver. Ka line over somethign else? It is something you can buy for your children or little brother/sister as a gift. But regardless, this prooves that Bandai don't really need a mega popular IP/character to sell the model as retail. There is no template to their action nor justifications for the bad ones aka P-Bandai.

The GQuuuuuuX was really fun to build. Out of box it's an extremely clean and interesting kit.

With the nail polish the model actually has a lot of literal glitter and opalescence, which looks great - at a distance -
It'll look ok on a stand in a dynamic pose, and once I figure out a backdrop, but it's also pretty much just covered in gobs of paint and looks terrible in certain angles.
I'm a little upset with myself for not stoping with my primer paint job alt-colour scheme and just rolling with that.

Next time prevent the colours from mixing when you layer them on by letting paint dry before you continue, because mixing multiple colours turns it into a shit colour, and afterwards hit it with matte so it doesn't look like you slathered it with paint using your hands.

Oh I did.
Was too engrossed in working to take pics of my progress, but I started with an initial layer of essentially polka dots in the kira kira colour palette, and gradually layered up from that.

I was using acrylics, which are matte when they dry.
And then I used a variety of glossy nail polish types for detail work.
It is partly meant to look like a mess; part of the inspiration is Shuji's graffiti. This result isn't entirely unintentional.

The thing I'm mostly disappointed in is not getting the pattern smaller.

Primer does three main things, the first is protect the plastic from harsher types of paint that can damage the plastic. The second is provide a uniform base color so that you don't wind up with different shades when trying to paint different pieces the same color. The third(and probably least important) is provide a better surface for paint to adhere to. You use primers not clear coat as the base layer.

I use proper stuff these days including proper primers and paint. The mr super clear primer trick is great for novices who are just looking to make the plastic look good while giving a good surface for color correcting paints.

If all you are doing is minor color correction you should just use acrylics(which are generally safe for bare plastic) and use the super clear as a topcoat after painting and lining. Much cheaper than using it as a base coat, painting, and then topcoating.

A lot of acrylics don't stick to the bare plastic well and the ones that do aren't really fit for brush painting. The ones that stick well feel gluey and feel bad on a brush.

I assume it has something to do with the whole payment song and dance that needs to be done every time you consolidate. The way Bandai handles it, they cancel both of the previous orders and then create a new order with everything together and a single shipping charge. I assume that maybe the order cancelling part of it might have been causing issues, like maybe credit card companies were interpreting them as chargebacks or something stupid.

Frankly, I don't know why they can't charge for only the item and tax upon purchase, and then automatically consolidate and charge for shipment once the shared pre-order date passes.

A glass file can last you a really long time, and you can use just the one tool to file down nubs instead of going through multiple grits of sandpaper. Just cut the nub down as close as you can with a hobby knife, and finish it off with the glass file. Cleanup just comes down to grabbing a piece of masking tape and sticking the dust particles stuck on the file (or using a small cheap brush to sweep it into your garbage can). Even a Chinesium glass file is usually around 2000 grit, which is good enough to grind down nubs but not harm the plastic. Metal files are usually much coarser and thus have the potential to scratch up your pieces.

Brush painting is fun. Just make sure to thin your paints and don't be afraid to do multiple coats to get a good finish.
My first airnbrush was a master G233. It's pretty nice, You can get it, a compressor and all the stuff you'll need for less than 100 dollars.

It is possible to hand paint your kits, but unless you have a good leveling agent and really know how to paint you risk leaving an uneven coat and making your kit look worse than unpainted. Airbrushes are good for Gunpla because it's really easy to apply even thin uniform coats to pieces.

However, if you do invest in an airbrushing setup, you have to make sure that your ventilation is top notch, because lacquer fumes can really fuck you up if you breathe them in long term. That means spray booth, hose leading out a window, OV P100 respirator, and a relatively closed off room to keep children and small animals from wandering in and breathing in your fumes.

It is what gunplabros usually call "black base ". You paint the kit in black colored primer, and then paint standard stuff on it. It results a much more subded and realistic colors compares to the standard grey/white primer.

I use black primer. So far as acrylics, it's just a paint that sticks to plastic well and provides a nice base for painting on. The stuff I use is vallejo mecha color black primer. Thin it a bit, add some paint retarder, and it is very easy to brush on. The retarder helps it stay wet a bit longer so that the surface can level out evenly.

You gotta put in some effort to even put some pieces together and some of them require clean up here and there. Seamlines go across the whole gun, on forearms and on waist. There are slight sink marks on gun barrel.
All in all, after a bit of cement, putty and paint it should be all good.

Depends, I like to do a first pass of lining with tamiya liner on the runner and then touch ups with a lining marker after partial assembly. When I do decals depends on the part, usually it's also after partial assembly. I don't wait until it's fully built because individual limbs and what not are easier to handle.

Added the Earthshaker Hound to the Groupbuild shelf, and I'm slowly running out of space on the thing. Hell, it's already missing three builds from it (Two for being too big (Sword Calamity & Jinrai) and the other because it's part of a diorama now (Ursa Major)) and I'm still running low on surface area in there. The Vehuel being a flat fuck I had to shove into the corner doesn't help much either.
Regardless, 20 groupbuild entries (Including one for a /toy/ build years before I started up the ones here) ain't too bad.
