Just started watching Zeta Gundam and jesus christ, are they trying to make you hate Kamille or something?

He's possibly the most annoying Gundam protag out of the like +20 Gundam shows and movies I've seen.

Does he get better?

Wing, Endless Waltz, War in the Pocket, SEED, SEED Destiny, Stardust Memory, 08th MS Team, Gundam X, Gundam 00 & movie, Gundam Unicorn, Gundam: The Origin, Iron-Blooded Orphans (though I admit, I dropped it toward the end of S2), Gundam Thunderbolt, etc.

Just got around to watching the stuff I missed so I watched 0079 and was planning on watching Zeta next (and then ZZ, Char's Counterattack and then Victory).
Hence being introduced to Kamille.

He only marginally gets better. He's supposed to be a rotten egg where they try to excuse some of on his suroundings. Which is why it ends the way it does.
This is not some Eureka 7 thing where the protag isn't a bad person, but genuinelly matures and improves despite not having the best of times.

Imagine hating Kamille Bidan.

Kamille sucks and is insufferable for most of his show, while his actions are somehow excused.

The shows you haven't seen yet have far better MC's like the Chad Judau or Uso who actually knows that killing a murderer is actually good.

I started watching Wing and SEED as a kid and then mostly watched stuff as it aired. As a kid I also prioritzed the stuff that had nice looking action and visually looked good, which obviously the earlier Gundam anime didn't have.
I then prioritized other mecha/mecha adjacent shows like Full Metal Panic, Ghost in the Shell, Outlaw Star, Macross Zero, Getter Robo, etc.

Don't see why that is so hard to believe.
