Yeah, in the original series and manga the Mazinger Z didn't really have a set "finisher". Both Rust Hurricane and Photon Beam both go right through kikkaiju at times, but the Breast Fire and Rocket Punch were just more popular which ends up reflected in SRW.

Heck, the first episode of Mazinkaiser in spite of being a quick "Mazinger Z jobs" set up, still has pretty nice showcases for the Photon Beam and Rust Hurricane.

The best answer is honestly just be yourself
All 3 dlc packs (including the expansion) are more of the same. They have the same exact progression
You recruit the first group of dlc characters in the early game, by the middle part you will recruit the other characters or unlock an additional finisher with a few exceptions that are instead unlocked in the endgame
Lastly in the postgame each pack has a set of 3 stages culminating in a boss battle with an original enemy (the same in all dlcs) and a resurrected final boss from one of the base game series (1 for each dlc pack)
Basically if you don't like 30 then don't bother with the dlc, if there is one or more unit you like in a dlc pack then feel free to get it. Since you got the deluxe so the only thing missing is the expansion the decision depends on how much you like Votoms, Dancouga, Getter Devo and Shinkalion

In the games where stats cap at 400, (and really you're probably gonna be in the high 200s unless you're NG+ing), WLB is about the same as adding 200 weapon power to everything, and at 170 morale you'll take like 10% less damage than you would at 150.
But if infight and gunfight are around those give extra movement or range at the 4th and 7th levels so unless there's barely any stages left to get PP on I'd generally go for one of those breakpoints first even if it costs more.
This is all over optimizing like a few hundred extra damage before other multipliers so really do whatever.

If you're playing a game with skill parts instead that all goes out the window of course, work with what scraps the game throws you.

Aside from the magic bit, you pretty much described L-Gaim basics. He will probably share Pentagona or be a neighbor system, 'large' background settings in SRW often get smashed with others without too much complicated elaboration, like Cephiro and Byston Well being pretty much one and the same in T.

14 episodes into Daitarn 3. I can see why it took so long to have more than just the titular mecha in SRW, since nearly every monster of the week is an actual person gone giant-sized rather than a barely-sentient robot or piloted mech.
