what are you favorite gundam games? there are like 100 of them and the quality seems all over the place. so far ive play off the top of my head

The VS series is my favorite, even from the very beginning when it was just a basic 3D action game, that then somehow successfully pivoted to a series of 3D fighting games

gameplay wise i feel like virtual on sort of matches a little bit and im sure some gundam games do to. the out of battle exploration and customization in that MS saga new dawn game sort of was what made me think of custom robo even though the genres are different.

for me, it was seeing wing air on TV and then also coming across this game in the arcade, I understood it was a a different gundam but didn't know anything about it back then so it helped feed my curiosity about the franchise

3 is definitely better than 4. 4 was an attempt to right a sinking ship after new breaker royally fucked the series. In some regards it's closer to how 3 was but it didn't quite go far enough and you can feel it's shortcomings. MS saga is fun too though, I'd check it out too.

oh yeah, and when my local arcade replaced their federation vs zeon cabinets for the AEUG vs titans version, as a kid I was amazed

it had everything the old game had but increased the playable unit roster by like two or three times as many suits, and I spent hours trying out all the new weird machines and trying to see how far I could get using only the old OYW MS

Was New Breaker the one where they introduced a bunch of mechanics that fans didn't like as soon as the first trailer was released? And the response from the devs was to release a follow up trailer where Fa (acting as a stand in for the devs) acted passive aggressive towards Kamille (acting as a stand in for the players) for pointing out the problems with the new mechanics?

iirc the parts system in practice just means you use the most powerful because it's a grindy bland jrpg otherwise

iirc the crew who made that did ZF as well, similar fps+light tactics but you're GMs
the default DC controls make it impractical to move and shoot so anything offlabel is a gamechanger

Battle Assault 2 for the ps1 is clunky but fun

OP here i think this may very well be a contender for franchise with the most videogames im pretty sure it has way more than mario or sonic. its overwhelming.

Its not strictly Gundam but the Super Robot Wars Alpha games include nearly all of UC that existed up to their point of release plus some of the AUs, and personally I like those games a lot.

Climax UC for PS2 was pretty fun. It's like a more in-depth version of Encounters in space.

You can play as different characters from anime and play through their scenarios. Mobile suits have baseline stats. Different characters gives various boosts to different categories (more boost, more attack, more defense, newtype sense, etc) depending on who you select.

My favorite mode was Climax Mode. You are able to create a custom character and play as a grunt. You start during the One Year War and gain experience. During the One Year War you can choose Zeon or the Federation. You play through major battles and lead a team. Then when you get to a new anime, you have to choose a faction. During Zeta, you can choose to join the Titans or AEUG. Then during ZZ you can join Neo Zeon or AEUG/Federation. The during Char's rebellion you can choose Neo Zeon or Londo Bell.

Each era has different missions. And your custom character will grow their stats with each mission. The game gives you greater growth and more stats if you complete the mission with a weaker mobile suit. So my character completed the One Year War with just a BALL (I could have used a weaker suit like a fighter jet, but it's very hard!). Then I used a Zaku 2 all way up to ZZ Gundam. The final mission of ZZ Gundam with a Zaku 2 is crazy. If you join AEUG then you have to fight the Neo Zeon Axis fleet. They have mass produced Big Zams and tons of beams flying everywhere. A Zaku machine gun was useless. So I was only left with a heat hawk and close combat. I nicknamed myself the "Heathawk Grim Reaper".

After CCA, the game retires your character and forces you to marry and start a family. You must choose 1 of 3 options.

1. The female mobile suit pilot who fought with you as a partner on the battlefield through all missions.

2. The cute female radio operator always guided you for 10 years.

3. The female childhood friend who loyally waited for you for 10 years to return.

Very tough choice!

One you choose a waifu, then the game time skips. You a given a child with randomized stats based on the parents. Then you can play as your daughter or son. They become mobile suit pilots and fight during the Gundam F91 era.

Fun game. I really enjoyed it. It's clear the producers put a lot of effort into the game.

Gameplay is abysmal even for a FMV game, but the story is decent. Live action Char is funny, and frat guy Garma is the best actor in the entire game. Also would buy a gundamtank gunpla.
