Hope they're alright.

I haven't quite finished it yet, but so far J-Decker has just completely mogged GaoGaiGar for me. The show sticking to monster of the week with the occasional overarching story for 3 - 5 episodes is working so much better for me than the last half of GGG. Something just stopped clicking at the halfway point and I can't quite figure out what.

That could be it too, outside of Volfogg and the earlier episodes with the Ryuu twins the robots personalities never really jumped out at me. I'm not sure if my mental image of Goldymarg comes from the show or SRW, but the chinese Ryuus and the girl Ryuus from Final are kinda blank slates in my mind. I know they showed SOME kind of personality trait but they just never stuck after the show ends.

Man, I wrote out a response but I guess it got eaten. Oh well.
Anyways, J-Decker is a very charming show, and the relationship between Yuuta and Deckerd is what every other show with a kid and a robot wishes it had.
It's interesting that you don't like the second half of GaoGaiGar as much as the first, since that's when a lot of people seem to think it hits its stride. I think the show gets somewhat mired in the amount of stock footage they use, and like >>23376468 says, the Ryus other than the first two don't get a ton of development.
I think a show with the personalities from J-Decker, the flashiness of GGG, and the focus on storytelling that Da-Garn has would hit a sweet spot.
