-=READ THE GUIDES=-
Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!
For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!
For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!
And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.
>Why are my pictures sideways?4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:

-=ARTILLERY GROUPBUILD=-
Build a mecha or vehicle that uses long-range heavy-weapons such as Cannons, Missiles/Rockets, Railguns, or any other type of siege weaponry. Some clarifying rules
>The weapon can either be placed anywhere on the build (Shoulder-mounted, under-slung, etc), or in a separate side-build (Such as an artillery system utilized by a larger mech).
>Side-builds can include things like howitzers, self-propelled artillery, missile platforms, and the like.
>Alternatively, the mech can act as a spotter, loader, or some other role to support Artillery fire.
>Despite technically being a long-range weapon, Sniper Rifles are a no-go.
Send your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com with at least 5 photos of your finished build along with any WIP photos and a description of your entry.

Any info on these guys being reprinted anytime soon?
>>23387121They already did where have you been wtf.
>>23387121I'll sell you my Astaroth Origin. It's missing some parts I took out to use in a kitbash years ago only I decided against using them after all and now I don't remember where I left them. $40 + shipping.
>>23387084I am once again asking for your support
How do we feel about Chinese-original plamo?
>>23387139Yes to both. Less paint in the mixture = less opaqueness. Less pressure = less paint being disposed at once. Shading relies on having not fully solid layers for the underlying paint to show through. Not sure why'd you need a different nozzle though, those generally affect your spray area radius along with pressure.
>>23386787I wish the 1/100 Messer bootleg looked more like the HG.
>>23387150They do know how to fill a niche
>>23387152So you make the paint thinner and with less pressure?
>Not sure why'd you need a different nozzle thoughMy thought process was smaller nozzle = smaller area = easier to shade small parts. I'd swap out for a smaller one if I could.

I'd also love that huge serpent machine Uso fights, but Bandai would never do it
>>23387182Yeah that makes sense, but isn't usually necessary. 0.3 nozzle which is the most common in this hobby is already small enough and you can improvise a smaller area by reducing pressure and limiting the amount of paint using the needle stopper.

How do you make time to work on gundams when you have to get in the wage cage every day?

Why do people always paint the zaku tubes chrome or shiny?
Always looks so out of place. Just because itโs a tube doesnโt mean it has to be shiny. When I eat at chipotle and look at the ceiling and see all the exposed tubes they arenโt perfect mirror reflection metal. These zakus look like rappers with chain necklaces
>>23387244You should be able to find at least 1.5 hours a day to work on your models even as a wagie with family. You're supposed to map out all you want to do in advance during your work time so you can just jump right in once you're free.
>>23387244i'm autistic and on disabilitybux
>>23387244I work from home but i mostly build in the evenings and on weekends. You would be surprised how fast you can progress if you shoot for at least one piece nipped/cleaned/snapped a day.
>>23387244Start building more efficiently by snipping out all the parts > trimming all the parts > painting or nah > assembly
>>23387250>Why do people always paint the zaku tubes chrome or shiny? I don't
In fact, I paint them all matte dark gray like on the F2, even when they're supposed to be body colored
>>23387200Give me a MG Rig Contio

I want the gm ground type shield that turns into a cool claw thing. I don't know which kits have it, maybe its even a kitbash. But what's the cheapest way for me to get it? Is there a bootleg that has one? Maybe some dlc?
>>23387414You mean like the one in Red Giant HG set?
>>23387383>But really, y'all had 3 and a half months.Yeah but everyone knows only the last month counts and I have to spend the rest of the time funposting on /gpg/
>>23387280The unique thing about the IBO frame is that all the suit designs are basically attachments to the frame. The ammount of effort between kits is about on par with the level of work that goes into making a pbandai release. Maybe a little more.
>>23387419No its not a weird stake driver. Some anon posted it once, and it kind of looked like the pointy tips of the ground type shield turns into grabby pincer thingies.

>>23387383I bet it has always been one guy asking for extensions in the past, huh? and by that I mean actually sending pics + timestamp + feet pics
>>23387383Realistically can we speed them up? Do we need more than 2 months? Can we have like, a large groupbuild per year that's 4 months and others that are 2 months or something? Honestly I feel like having so much time encourages people to not make progress.
>>23387427Oh Iโm aware, but there were what, 5 years between the release of MG barbatos and vidar? Iโm sure there are other IBO designs higher on the priority list than kimaris vidar since that one didnโt even get a full mechanics release

Because if that's the case, Jesus fuck the shipping costs are higher than the cost of the items themselves and it's probably cheaper to buy P-Bandai instead.
I've filed down where the part was connected to the runner so much, I've gone over it with the glass file and the superfine one and the marks are still there. Will it go away if I clear coat it?
>>23387552This is called a stress mark. It's gonna sound weird, but try scratching it with your fingernail. A bit of pressure on it will help force the plastic back into place and mitigate the lightening.
Some colors are worse than others in this regard and sometimes you can't get rid of it entirely without paint. Sharp cutters help a lot.
>>23387552It will fully go away with paint over it. Otherwise just scratch it with your nail

>>23387552if you don't want to paint because whatever you can sand it down, cover with a layer of sprue goo, then sand that down to flush. It's actually a fun process prettying up a kit purely to plastic finish.
>>23387552easy way to do what
>>23387576 says is to put a glob of plastic cement on a piece of same colored runner and then rub it over the stress mark. Let it cure and sand it flat. Works for filling in minor gouges as well.

>>23387112Painted the yellow parts on the barbatos red gold, then toned them with clearcoat mixed with yellow paint. I like the dull gold effect it has. I didn't want it to be shiny.
I also experimented a bit with a similar process for the white but it came out more gray than white. I did it on the top of the head. I need some proper metallic white for the effect I want.
Anyone have any thoughts (on the build)?
>>23387741Cute
>>23387739Here's a real collection of paint hanging on my jerk off hand. Mahogany primer, some acrylic, enamel and Jumpwind. But no mr hobby beside the primer so, my defeat on this one.
>>23387756Nice. I've never used tamiya before so we'll have to call it a draw,
>>23387757I feel like you didn't paint the white parts at all.
>>23387762That's because I haven't yet, aside from that one on the top that I pointed out. It's a work in progress.
As for that piece, I painted it a very light silver and toned it with white to try and get a white metal color. It just came out light gray though.
Did they ever make a bootleg hg hyaku shiki? This has the blue bandai logo but all the runners are in sealed bags instead of the regular bags.
Resin pour tabs are such a pain in the ass
Sure there are fewer of them but they're always massive and placed in the worst possible locations so you end up having to resculpt a bunch of geometry after you're done removing the excess material
>>23387765>>23387762To show what I am going for, I did this process for this pair of sinanjus and I love how they came out. I just don't know exactly how it'll work with white and I need to work out the kinks.
>>23387767honestly that's on the caster/recaster. quality molds have no issue breaking parts up just to avoid putting tabs on detailed surfaces.
>>23387767e2046 kit?
originals aren't that bad most of the time, and better recasters often don't have as huge pour tabs and usually in better places. e2046 is considered the lowest rung for a reason
>>23387775I'm colorblind and even I can tell this thing is too green
>>23387775i never liked jagd mirage and the gtm is no better
>>23387737this is just how all matte topcoated metallics look
>>23387775out of every GTM redesign this one hurts me the most, it lost literally everything cool and looks like a complete retard
>>23387759Tamiya acrylic is kinda like, they have their own looks and easy for you to pull a dirty military themed build. They are the opposite of Enamel, which is clean and smooth. I only use acrylics mainly because i like to handpaint, even though the result is usually...not very appetizing.
Working on Final Hund set right now. They have 3 units and a human commander.
>>23387768Try some pearl white over clear white over silver ? Something like that. It'll never be pure white looking but surely you can get close. Maybe a mix of silver and clear white
>>23387768Well i'm not a modeling critic. You seem to like lore accurate paintjob with some shadings. Keep doing it if that is what makes you happy.
>>23387800I like to customize grunts too. I just don't like deviating too much on stuff that's one of a kind. Here's a customized GM ground type.
I was intending to make a meme build for shitposting with Dachshund topcoated and panel lined, but doing that would be a disgrace to myself so i will just paint it normally.
>>23387808It depends on how "one of the kind" they are. Iconic designs like Metal Gear or Mazinger will definitely make me hesitate. However when it comes to Gundam, most of them got redesigned to death with numerous intepretations.
>>23387809it looks pretty good like it is right now. the plastic has a nice sheen to it
>>23387818It only looks good as bare plastic due to its sculpt and exotic design, which is excellent. I would blast it with a green rattlecan if i decided to keep it "unpainted" because those nubs and cement are not gonna disappear by themselves.

>>23387380It's alright, mostly because it is based off the 2.0 which is the best version of the suit. Unless you really love the shoulder cannon just get the 2.0 though.
>>23388438My singular complaint about it was how a lot of the cannons used a sticker for the barrel instead of having the part below it poke through(because the indent is shallow and annoying to paint). Otherwise it's basically perfect. Really enjoyed it.
>>23387725Get used to it. Really. I also experienced tinnitus about a month and a half ago, and all the doctor told me to do was relax and stop thinking too much about it, your brain would eventually cope with the noise. It's fucking unbelievable that this shit is incurable even today.

>>23388475>as it's all weird weaboo perversions to themAnd i think you are a massive faggot. That does not mean you have to care about what i think, fag.
>>23388491Based if true. I'm living with my grandpa, we have our own house so rent is not a problem, i pay for the eletricity while he is just minding his own business. Money is not a problem since my income is stable enough both living and hobby. Can't say the same about alot of anons here, though, they might be living away from their family, but the money source might be from said family instead of their own.
>>23388532I been thinking about doing some of the yellow as gold. That's how the box set is done, which is neat. Don't think I'd get a good effect at this stage, though.
Love the design, hated the build. A lot parts are fiddly as hell. Gonna disassemble and paint it after I find the Zudah rifle I have stashed away somewhere
>>23388570I will never understand the "hand grenade" meme in gunpla fanbase. Don't you guys use cement or glue to reinforce the non mudular/non articulated parts?
>>23388676God, they messed up the head in the worst way possible.
>>23388678Go build the MG victory gundam and come back. Most kits are perfectly fine if maybe a bit finicky out of the box, but that thing is a clusterfuck you can't fix without making it unable to transform.
>>23388680None of the Bandai kits reach the level of fragility of Koto's Armored Core kits. You try to build any Gen 4 AC and will see.
Bought bootleg Turn-A
I was questioning why it was so cheap, but then I realized why
This thing is made up of remarkably little plastic
Like I'm pretty sure it's got about as much plastic as a 30mm grunt or the gquack gelgoog
>>23387265idk, good taste in kits though
>>23388684>white glintAAAAAAAAAAAA
>>23388692Plastic amount does not always dictate the price. Sometimes it is also the natural rarity of them, manufacturer didn't print in large quantity due to their niche popularity and so on. Most of Wave's Ma.K kits have as much plastic as a Bandai's Entry Grade and as expensive as MG The-O.
>>23388703White Glint feels like a godsent after you have built Aliyaah or Stasis. The build experience is tedious and the plastic is brittle.
>>23388708That's old kotobukiya kits for you. They have came a long way since the 00s/10s.
Spoonfeed me on the Graze. Why would the bootleggers need to 3d print it. Does it not have an HG kit?
>>23388704sure but with bootlegs the price is heavily dictated by the actual amount of plastic and the complexity of the injection
>>23387437>>23387438Yeah this is what I want. Why the fuck would it be locked behind pbandai?
>>23388727Because bandai knows people will pay p bandai prices.
>>23388722They cost like 3-5 bucks in mainland China so I imagine ez army building. Of course it loses the point when it reaches gweilos because of price markups but still.
>>23388725Not quite. Cheap bootlegs and knockoffs sometimes have more to do with how cutcorner they are. Alot of Chinese kits use cheap and toxic mold release oil that makes your hand itch from building them, some even use literall gutter plastic which will rot in 2 years. Plastic amount does contribute to the pricing, but it is not the most important factor.
>>23388743The infamous cursed Nightingale...
>>23388747I still want to buy it, it looks so good, washing it in soapy water should be enough
>>23388739even with price markups it's still substantially cheaper than official kits (because those also get price markups fuck u gaijin)
Mold

๐
>>23388722Don't tell me you actually believe the Changs recast the kits with primitive tools. Yes, they have to research the original kits via their 3D scans in order to create their own bootleg molds. The mold printing is entirely done with machines.
>>23388751Nu-uh, everyone knows chang uses sand and clay molds and pours the plastic into them after they melt it in a meth spoon over a lighter.
>>23388747That incident was famous, but unfortunately, it was not the only one. Most of bootlegs i have built made my hand itch, though not as scary as that Nightingale knockoff. The recent bootleg is fine, though.
>>23388466>all the doctor told me to do was relax and stop thinking too much about it,I've tried, but it's pretty hard to do so when the noise is so loud and shrill. It's like sitting on a train that's perpetually braking, 24/7. I can't even sleep properly anymore because of it. And it somehow keeps getting louder, too.
I love how Nobel berserker's boobs set is essentially an extension pack for the standard Nobel, too. Gotta love the Changs.
>>23388718I'm glad I started plamo on old koto kits because it doesn't really mean anything to me when kits are finicky and have assembly issues/are fragile. It's just something to he fixed. I feel like I learned most of my modeling skills from dealing with their Muv-Luv kits. I almost think people are a little too spoiled by bandai kits just because of how easily they go together without any issues. Neither are koto but I think the hardest kits I've done were the 60s version of the kit of the original series USS Enterprise and the kits for each LOGH flagship.
>>23388761your taste in pictures is very SEA
>>23388761weird, I don't think I've ever had a bootleg make my hands itch, and I have pretty bad chronic eczema so if anyone would get set off it's me

>>23388845I disagree. In smaller threads it gets pretty easy to differentiate people even without tracking file names. In a general sense it's pretty to profile people.
>>23388858>petty to profile peopleNah, there's a couple people here who should be bullied out of the threads for their constant shitstirring.

>>23388870>there's a couple people here who should be bullied out of the threads for their constant shitstirring. Why haven't you get out of here, then?
>>23388678It isnt that simple in the case of the 3.0. The shoulder pads are a collection of hinged flaps with one flap that you run the chest peg through into the arm. Then those chest pegs are sitting in a ball joint themselves so modeling requires some counterpressure.
The core isnt very securely connected at the hip since it is designed to hold the core fighter, and the chest hatch does not have a very secure c clip.
Hip skirt likes to pop off or feels loose sometimes but that is a fixable problem.
It is a very beautiful kit and can look pretty on a shelf but there are a lot of issues with it that glue doesnt solve.
>>23388858i have just profiled you as either the twitter tranny or the guy with TDS
>>23388905Well, the core fighter can say goodbye to its freedom with glue to be kept inside the hip forever. The flaps and C-clip can be solved with matte paint because most of problems you listed seem to be from either bare plastic or clean smooth paintjob that gives no rough texture for the joints to latch onto. There is no real "hand grenade", only models that require more works than the other.
Beautiful. A true masterpiece. Bandai has done it again.

>>23387112I finally got the Nightingale put back together and on a stand. Buddy got me the Nu VerKa. Pretty stoked. What am in for here?
>>23389653My house has good filtration. I have no pets and never have the windows open. I never rarely need to dust and when I do it's a quick swipe with the duster.
>>23389657It is now. I scratch-built a mount so it could sit on the stand securely. I drilled each joint's peg and used a screw/lock washer from the other side to hold the limbs tightly. The wings are reinforced with a 5mm steel rod which the separated parts can slide back and forth on. The whole reason I reworked this kit in the first place was while sitting on the shelf its leg popped out of the socket, then it fell about 6 feet, I had to fix a lot of broken parts.
>>23389687Excessively long legs and joints that degrade quickly. Also annoying funnels.

>>23389731Oh now that they made the pgu? Forgot about that thing
Fellow snapshitters, we must devise a strategy for making paintfags fight amongst themselves instead of us. What if we started a fake canon vs. non-canon colors argument
>>23389736Can't comment on the PG but the RG is also better, ignoring the inferior scale at least.
>>23389744Better proportions, better appearance(less weird lankyness), way less of a floppy mess that can't hold up it's own limbs. The ver ka has some wonky ass proportions and due to being one of the first kits that adopted bandai's new plastic some design issues that cause it's joints to be pretty weak. I do like that it comes with a stand that can display the funnels though.

What are these and are they any good? They're pretty cheap
>>23389747They're 30+ year old kits.
>>23389748O-out of ten, hopefully
>>23389746Ah yeah figured this was gonna be about some rg snapshitter shit. You just want it to look good out of the box without having to put work in or paint it.
>>23389751Honestly their mold quality is pretty damn good. Being 1/100, even though small scale, helps avoid the worst of the shitty 90s molds with scrunched faces and shit. They can look great with work.
>>23389517It's just tedious bexause you're more or less painting a whole kit's worth of parts underneath the actual gundam's armor. I'm sure most just blast a metal coat and call it but I can't not paint in the detail if there's even a chance of it peeking through
>>23389754Take your meds anon. You aren't gonna cut off a fourth of the MG's legs and you know it.
>>23389510>i find their build quality to be amazingIf there is anything the RE100 line failed at it's this. The entire reason the line is dead is because the build quality was dogshit(primarily because they insisted on reusing the same dogshit ass polycaps instead of designing shit with the kit in mind). The FM line largely fixes the build issues though and could be said to be the same line with a different name I guess.

Finished the $4.70 bootleg Turn A.
Bootleg-wise, it's fine. There are no real fitment issues or flashing.
I understand why it's as cheap as it is, though. The base kit design, specifically the engineering, is pretty dubious.
Still kind of want to paint it because I feel like it would look really cool with a dark paintjob and some drybrushing.

Why have ver kas been getting so much hate on here lately? I thought in general people thought they were really good. Is it just contrarians here?
>>23389813>>23389837Is this before or after tariffs?
ver ka? i smash it on the curb ka
>>23389854If there's one thing anons in this general hate, it's katoki legs and greeble. Guess what ver kas commonly feature?
>>23389854>latelyKatoki's redesigns have always been hit or miss. Some are perfectly fine like the Zeta, others are more subjective.
>>23389867What about the v and v2 ver kas? Are those good?
>>23389873Visually? They are fine, good even. Structurally they are pretty infamous(more so the V than the V2, although the V2 still inherited some of the issues). Also zero waist articulation at all makes posing them kind of annoying. Their issues stem less from Katoki and more from just poor engineering.
>>23389889So are they one of the ones where the redesign is perfectly fine?
>>23389873They have a ton of C clips as part of the victory gundams gimmick so the build is pretty funky. They look good though.
>>23389892Didn't katoki design the victory and v2 to begin with? They are ver kas but not really redesigns. But sure, the aesthetics of the kits are good.
>>23389893Does it fall apart easily? I want to play with it like in the show where they would shoot the boots off at the bad guys and have the plane with the gundam head sticking out.
>>23389901They are definitely not kits fit to play with. If you want a victory you can play with get the HG. The only thing the MG can really do is stand there in a neutral pose(probably with some glue to keep certain parts together). It does look good that way but any sort dynamic pose is off the table(again, zero waist of any sort) and any sort of play is just asking for it to explode or break.
>>23389900I finished building it the other week and don't really have any issues with it, but I haven't seen a 2.0 build in person to compare. I like color separation, greeble, and decals though.
>>23389903Ok thanks for letting me know. Does the hg victory gundam transform? I see it has the plane with the gundam head sticking out which is funny.
>>23389915If I recall right, no. It comes with the core fighter but it's separate so you get the MS and the fighter with no core top or bottom gimmicks.
>>23389901It doesn't fall apart easily. I'd worry about breaking a C clip taking it apart.

It's a very fun kit. Departs heavily from what you usually expect from HGs, just in general. I think I'll try to get my hands on the official version of this kit, either this guy or the G-Reco Grimoire which this guy is an expansion of. The reason for that is...

4.5/10
It's FINE.
Not great. Not good. FINE.
The plastic is okay. Not great not terrible. Some flashing. A fair bit of pretty ugly mould lines, also a fair bit of ugly plastic finish, like scrapes/gouges near the edges of parts. Fitment is surprisingly good, no real issues there. Requires some elbow grease to get it together, i.e forceful pushing-together of parts.
I can tell I would have enjoyed this kit a great deal more if I had gotten an official one.

I like the V2 design. Years ago I built the Victory ver Ka and remember it being really annoying. Should I get the V2 ver Ka? Not wanting to pay the premium for the AB version. Or should I just get the HGUC V2AB instead and just live with it being smaller?
