Majestic Prince is the most generic show I've ever seen, but in a weirdly good way
It's derivative and generic, but it's polished aside from Hiraiface
It's bland, but a top tier bland

The Hiraiface is fine, because it's Scryed style Hiraiface and not SEED style Hiraiface. The characters are actually expressive and look different from each other beyond their hair.

And yeah, it's a fun show. Certainly enjoyable enough that we're still talking about it a decade on.

I always thought it was weird they spent half the show building up the connection between Izuru and Teoria and then when they finally reveal she's essentially his biological mother the two never interact after. Izuru himself is never told, right? Just that Asagi is his brother. I would have liked to at least see a scene of the two together after he found out but oh well. Besides it's Izuru so all that would really happen is he'd start going around calling her mommy like a weirdo.

I don't know about generic, there's a surprising lack of shows that take place mostly in space and that are about humans fighting humanlike aliens. Only other ones I can think of are Nadesico, Ideon ad Macross, and MJP doesn't really feel like any of those.
It's more that it's just straightforward, doesn't throw any twists at you. It spends more time getting you to like the characters than it does getting you invested in the plot. But when it does do stuff with the plot, it at least tries to make things flashy

I would say that the Majestic Prince is very well balanced as a mecha anime.

There are various types and designs of mecha for every taste, there are large-scale battles and special operations, there is interaction between mecha and allied spaceships, technological development is well explained and integrated into the universe.

The characters are well-written both in their individuality and abilities, and in their origin as literally natural-born pilots who have undergone military training. The team that supports them is also great and, moreover, all the operations in which this super-squad participates are built on competent and interesting tactics. Moreover, the problems of relationships between various structures and organizations in the alliance of "good guys" are presented quite realistically, as well as the careerist ambitions of some subjects.

The enemies are quite acceptable - aliens with biotech and a culture of militant superiority, which create their desire for war with "related" species to stimulate their own evolution. This is 100 times more logical and interesting than the vast majority of "bases" of conflicts in many mecha anime!

Additional episodes with a new team and full activation of the main cast corrected the ending and it turns out to be practically ideal.

In my opinion, Defenders of the Galaxy can be considered almost the best mecha anime I've ever watched...

Did the anime makers just bin the actual show and make their own shit. What the fuck happened there.

Interquel, more like, the cast is another class on the same academy. Strangely, both the manga and anime share a frequent character, but it seems she is not coherent on how she acts on the anime. So it's weird, if you didn't knew the anime existed you probably wouldn't associate both pieces of media at all.
Anonymous No.23412298 [Report]

Yeah, I've read it. MJP was a multimedia thing so that's the deal there. They're both stories that take place in the same setting at pretty much the same time, but at the same time the final volume omake does have the artist saying that how exactly it relates to the anime never got fully expanded upon so who knows. The manga's more about what happens as a result of the war with the Wulgaru and honestly I find it way more interesting even if it did get axed decently hard, the anime's probably still better though.
>It wasnt even some rando artists either. the manga was made by the Get Backers guy
Ayamine did the story not the art but it still really looks like GetBackers for some reason, and to the best of what I can find the artist wasn't an assistant of his either.

2 non fighting episodes between battles is quite a bit of a break. Duels between Izuru and the Prince were good, but there was rather mech directing that relied on characters telling us they were fighting a difficult battle when things didn't look much different than usual. Also, enemy grunts were poorly designed.

The guy piloting blue mech was the only well written character. Izuru and the analytics girl were passable. The other two were one-dimensional stereotypes. The girl/guy was entertaining, but as a character, they didn't go anywhere. Dobermans were neat.

It is solid how adults know how to treat child soldiers, unlike NERV. Only the Prince was a memorable villain.

But it is by a numbers generic story with generic tropes (rebellious Princess of the enemies, generals of the evil empire, the supposedly dangerous aspect of MC's mecha that ends up mastered anyway...) that has decent elements, even some good moments, but isn't really standing out. You saw that show many times already. It is a 6/10 series

Personally, I liked the everyday scenes in "Prince" - for example, the funny moments with Kei's saccharine cooking, connected with her natural specialization as an analyst, or the slightly sad moments with Tamaki's attempt to eat away his sadness with various strange dishes. Izuru's drawing or Suruga's military-otakunstvo. The eternally grumpy Asagi even seems normal.) And when Princess Theory tried to translate the stream of swear words from her "relative" and blushed and got confused - it was hilarious.

I have no problems with mech piloting and combat scenes because they are balanced through teamwork and individual mech settings covering each other's weaknesses. For example, that fight with the "Golden General" Wulgaru involving several members of the "Rabbit" squad and the main weapon of their mothership was damn cool and unpredictable.

The Dobermans lived with dignity and died with honor, having fulfilled their task, and Chandra also broke the system of ignoring the "death flag". The second super-team "Fawn" not only turned out to be individual and self-sufficient, but also participated in the battle with benefit, helping the main characters. Everyone in their roles.

In my opinion, the anime is very good because it COMPETENTLY shows the REASONABLE development of war technologies based on a combination of artificially created soldiers and advanced models of new weapons systems. "Prince" does not dramatize the "fate" of these child soldiers, since they consciously accept their purpose and live fully with it. "Prince" honestly points out that the adaptation of revolutionary weapons to alien technology is a very difficult and complex process. "Prince" also demonstrates that even very well thought-out human plans can hardly resist the simple power and numbers of aliens. And that's awesome!

It's just appreciated that the show knew when to step back, calm down and focus on something more quiet. I liked that they actually took an episode to properly reflect on what it meant tot hem when the Dobermans died and actually take the time to strengthen what they all meant to each other. That the bulk of the adult characters actually realized how messed up it was to have to rely on young soldiers and pushed to make life not awful for them is another big cap.

Heard. It's why I think only a few of the adult characters (Gendo and maybe Kaji) come to mind as good examples of the tragedy thing actually working out. The fact that they have the authority/agency to actually affect change in the wider story instead of following a script until the eleventh hour also helps.
>not about them being just stupidly awful because that's "realistic"
That's not where I thought you were going with this at all, though. I thought you were going to point out that Eva kicks its characters in the teeth regardless of whether they're getting consumed by their flaws or actually managing them somewhat competently.

Just watched the movie. What an absolute nothingburger that was.

I'm guessing it had no purpose except to just sell more models so we get this thing where they cram in the 4 new side character units (Team Fox), awakened versions of the other 4 rabbits and the new white 0 and Red 5+ units.

I just can't fathom why they went with the plot they did.
End of show the gate is closed but Wulgaru can always come back the long way and they still have half their leadership still alive and well so its obvious they will be coming back.
Judging by the news reports at the end "Were the AHSMBs even necessary?" "Here's how ludicrously expensive the AHSMBs are" I was expecting something like:
>War is over, Rhinos and Black 6-based cheaper AHSMBs are enough to mop up the remaining Wulgaru
>Team Rabbits is disbanded and AHSMBs are mothballed due to cost and political pressures (whichever nation owned them has a military advantage was touched on during the show)
>Years pass, Izuru may/may not wake up at this time
>Wulgaru return, maybe quickly made another smaller gate. Earth does a bit better in defense this time due to Rhinos but complacancy means less ready units and they eat shit whenever a leader takes the field so steadily getting beaten back
>Battle at the new gate
>Give Chandra his moment to avenge Randy and Patrick by taking down Lutier with help from Team Fox
>Team Rabbits are reactivated, maybe unofficially, and decide to dive into the gate to elimiate Jiart's brother with Theoria claiming the throne as destroying the new gate will just repeat the war endlessly
>Izuru wakes up and deploys with the rest in Red 5+, or waits until the Rabbits are struggling vs. Jiarts brother, having already beaten the other Wulgaru forces with awakened states
>They win and Wulgaru stand down

Personally, I liked the full-length movie for a number of funny and interesting moments, and the awakening of the Rabbits was interesting + the new team with their unique mecha...

I'll have to rewatch the anime soon.)

If the movie existed just to give the other rabbits their upgraded forms then it was well worth it. Sometimes it's enough to just see the characters you like one more time.

It's much easier to portray acrobatic shenanigans without being vomit inducing or an unreadable mess when there's a clear point of reference. Many space anime forget this fact.

Yeah, even though the animation is great, the space fights in MP also got very unreadable at points. It helps that all the ground combat had great choreography and teamwork to help sell the Rabbits as a team as well.

Despite how "generic" the show is. I think the show's best traits is the characters. They don't have those "started disliking one another until bond are formed in the end" kind of chemistry. But they felt kinda natural. Like when your teachers grouped you and a bunch of unrelated randos together and you all just figuring out how to make this work. Sometimes it's comforting to see a team that just, normal. They bounce each other normally like actual friends.

It was just nice. I don't like the term generic but while the show isn't trying to do anything especially shocking it is focused on doing things right. None of the drama comes from people behaving like retards. Characters actually take time to communicate. It feels genuine because it is genuine. Even the most mysterious cloak and dagger characters realize that the secrets can get in the way sometimes. It's nice. If this was what counted as generic then whole genre would be a lot better.

Well, some of the drama is from people being retards. And they get penalized for being retards putting their personal career above the survival of humanity.

we get it, you're playing SRWY

anyways jokes aside, I like how they had defined roles. I get the point behind Ange/black 6 but if the selling point is "haha this cybernewtype knockoff's gender is a mystery" then maybe you need to flesh out the character a bit more.

Wow, a time traveler started the thread before the release of the game or demos to talk about a series they wanted to talk about. Incredible.

It doesn't really do anything retarded compared to most original shows, they stick to the template and it comes out decent.

Izuru jobbed a little too much. Also I prefer the manga version.

Main protagonists losing is a good thing though.
