Having seen it in action I kind of think I'll dislike anything that messes with Omega's design. The bulk of the arm is way too much and I'm not even sure if I like the blue slugger.

>Trigaron has Kousei's lines too
That pretty much means Kousei is also its user. Since the Meteor Kaiju strains his body, it'll be difficult to summon both Kaiju at once or have the combo armor form. Now I'm curious how they'll get around that in the show.

Makes me wish that the Meteokaiju were more just the typical capsule kaiju/ally kaiju sort of deal. I think Omega's a really good suit on it's own for being so red so putting armor on top just detracts from his color scheme, maybe if they just stuck to making them weapons without the armor? I dunno, I think I still prefer form changes over armors.

X is still the best armored Ultraman because his base suit already has lots of detail like the armors.

It's a shame, I really like the Galaxy armor on its own. The crystaline look, The popped collar, the portal gimmicks, the color scheme... In a vacuum away from Arc's color scheme that is. That's the problem, it just doesn't fit him.
I remember people used the kids toys to put the armor on Blazar instead and it actually looked better on him.

Watched The Next, I liked it quite a lot even if the story was kind of generic and basically devolves into "one dud got the bad light that made him evil while the other one got the good light that made him a hero of justice". But the character writing and cinematography of everything that isn't CGI hardcarries the film, I had a great time with it. I also feel that the whole stuff about the light would have made more sense if I had as more familiar with Ultraman lore so it's hard to fault it for that. I do feel bad for the rats after watching the making of video of the movie.

I watched up to episode 29 or Nexus, I found Nexus acknowledging Next to be really weird since the military and Ultraman namesake were really different in both, I know they try to explain it as "the military isn't organized" but it feels weird, the only aspect of the movie that felt relevant to Nexus was The One's transformation. I wasn't expecting a main writer change, I haven't watched/read any of Ai's works but I'm aware of Turn a Gundam at least. The changes feel weird since I feel Ai's vision of sci-fi is really different from Hasegawa's, she's also less focused on horror but the episodes done by the Boogiepop Phantom writer still retain that horror feel, also did Ultraman get a suit actor change he's way more agile now. But the changes still feel kind of weird/noticeable and I feel that MP kind of got retconed, before the writer change I always felt like the Director wasn't that aware of what's going on and that MP might even be above him at times, also I don't know how to feel about Mizorogi surviving Himeya's suicide attack. But overall I'd say I like this new arc so far since I quite like Ren as a character, I feel Ai writes Kumon as a more competent character which helps it feel like he indeed got development after everything he went through, the new music tracks sound better than the previous ones which almost led me to belive there was a change in composer until I remembered that Kawai had made tracks like these for other shows and I also feel the show is kind of better paced now but I do miss Eiyuu as the OP. Thanks again to the anon that told me about the director's cut.
Also this song during episode 29 caught me off-guard: https://youtu.be/bqOfOSc9ipo

> I also feel that the whole stuff about the light would have made more sense if I had as more familiar with Ultraman lore
Not really. How Ultras work is different in practically every show, even in those that take place in the same universe, hell sometimes an Ultra will start working differently within a single show (see Ace)
Before Nexus, the only shows that really tried to drop lore were Taro and Leo, and even those kept it to a minimum. For the most part Ultras are supposed to be mysterious alien entities. They protect humans, but are not fully understood by them.

Also it's the same Ultra in both shows. The NEXT is basically a prequel. Yeah, it's some obvious cross-promotion bait referencing. They tease the multimedia to get you to watch but they don't make it too relevant so you can keep watching without the added context

Finished watching Nexus
What I liked
>The show's themes about life were really well done and felt impactful to me, the show managed to hit almost every emotional beat to me
>The cast was enjoyable, even though I felt that Komon was a bit too gullable prior the writer change and Nagi was way too sociopathic for the first 10 episodes or so to be likeable I still liked the cast dynamics, even more after the writer change
>Really solid direction aside from the occasional CGI, even then the CGI isn't that bad past the first 2 episodes
>The horror atmosphere most of this show has going for is really good
>Most of the world-building was solid to me, the way the show structured giving information about TLT always created this sense of uneasiness and questions while also making the the setting feel interesting and unique
>Good battle choreography
>Really good acting from the cast overall
>The finale while rushed still managed to hit most of the beats I wanted the show to do, still wish it had been longer though, like Noah hardly gets any screen time for God sake
>Eiyuu goes really fucking hard, specially the lyrics regarding the show's themes, Ao no Kajitsu while not as good is still a great song
>The slice of life scenes from the last third were really comfy

What I didn't like
>The show's connection to The Next felt kind of flimsy at times
>MP's characterization felt inconsistent, I assume due to the writer change
>The plot point of Ren's stalker felt too rushed to be properly impactful
>I don't know if it was a mix of the show getting a reduced episode count and the writer change but I really felt like Nagi could have used more focus episodes to make her character progression feel more natural
>I feel like I wouldn't have liked the show if I had watched it as it was airing due to the slow pacing not really fitting a weekly release like this and episodes 29 DC and 31.5 not being aired
>The show reuses some music tracks too many times
>They made who the traitor was way too obvious, literally was my first guess due having no backstory and barely any proper interactions with the cast despite being considered a main cast member
>Even though I liked the emotional beats that came with it and the end of his arc, I didn't quite like Mizorogi surviving Himeya's final attack

Overall I'd say I really liked this show, I almost want to say it's a top-tier toku just because I really loved the world and themes but the rushed nature of the story kind of keeps me from it, also I'm confused, was Himeya showing up at the very end supposed to be symbolic or did he actually revive?. If anyone wants to try watching the show I really recommend going into as blind as possible since it helps a lot of scenes be really impactful, at least it did for me except for the ending which I was partially spoiled of. Either way next Ultra show I'm going to watch is Ultra Q but I'm going to finish Tekkouki Mikazuki first since I already started it.

I don't care about the arcane trivia Anno pulled from. It just makes for a more interesting story. It makes Ultraman's race a little more believable by removing their existence from the welfare of human beings. Lipia and Zoffy are powerful extraterrestrial observers with their own expectations and concerns; not born to a race of superheroes whose purpose is to massage humanity's prostate for all time. That's the biggest reason the main M78 backstory just doesn't appeal to me at all. The more we learned the worse and more superfluous it got. I still don't care to see the Shin Ultra homeworld or anything, but it's nice to have the space aliens act as such again.

yeah, I'm glad it seems like we've finally left the Land of Light shit behind and that recent shows are trying to be a little more complex, like with Blazar being unwilling to let Gento murder baby kaiju or half of Arc's race wanting to destroy Earth to save themselves

>Ultraman was owned by the Tsuburaya Family, who deeply cared about quality of their products over anything else
>The family mad multiple poor funding choices leading up to Cosmos' production, where they made a stadium, failed attempts to bring Ultraman to the west done by some really bad contracts and spent fuckload of money on Cosmos due to it being an anniversary season
>On top of all that Cosmos' main actor got temporarily detained during the show's run due to a girl doing fake allegations. While this didn't screw the career of anyone from the show it resulted on a PR nightmare
>All of this culminated in Tsuburaya Productions facing a financial crisis despite Cosmos being a critical success, which resulted on Nexus changing timeslots and getting multiple changes mid-production
>After Nexus the Tsuburaya Family sold the company to one of the biggest media production companies of Japan known as TYO
>They still gave the studio a lot of creative freedom but limited their budget, however the franchise continued being a financial failure
>Then a Pachinko company known as Fields bought Tsuburaya from TYO in 2010
>They limited the budget even more and limited creative freedom with them and Bandai having more power on dictating the direction the shows would take
>Ginga ended up being the Ultraman season with the least budget, but it did manage to be a financial success and the franchise has continued to have financial stability ever since
>Ever since Ginga, ex Ultraman director Kitaura has served as the chief producer of every single mainline Ultraman
>A guy from Disney that hadn't worked on toku before known as Tsukagoshi became the president of Tsuburaya in late Heisei and then served as chairman for all of Reiwa until stepping out this year
>Since Blazar, Fields became a holding company, meaning that them and Bandai are still the ultimate owners but the studio is now more independent

TsuPro/SCLA sued over the mantle in 2022 but lost, meaning UMC could legally use the mantles from then on and they've been using that as a dig ever since.
It's another reason TsuPro is skittish about legal action now, if their case is not solid they stand to lose more.

Mebius, not that it has any real competition
Every other time it happens it's either right at the beginning so the moment itself doesn't have much impact as it's just part of the setup, or right at the end and it's just some cheap emotional bait for the finale that doesn't actually matter

I mean I guess Gaia did a reveal halfway through as well, but it meant literally nothing since both Gamu and the commander are horribly underdeveloped as characters have practically no personal relationship with each other and never talk about it afterwards. I don't understand why they even bothered

Eh, the Fields shareholders wouldn't really give a damn about Bandai's toy side (as per FIELDS recent financial report they're still seeing increase on their part). Event like stage shows are doing well, Gridman anime just got a fresh pachinko machine and the Grid girls are a free milking machine (also you just knew GSC is 100% going to turn that new SRW-exclusive Dynazenon into a toy), and not to mention the new TCG line and the newly formed gaming division, MetaField, for Ultraman. All of that are mostly seperated from Bandai's claw (especially the TCG & MetaField).

I just started watching the original 66 series via its amazon video release and after an expected start with episode 1 episodes 2&3 feel like they are from a show that's at least already a season in and can just expect the audience to know the deal.
Like the SSSP just has a kid with them and random members are getting focus episodes with Hayata is just kind of there. It treats everything like the audience is already knows what's going on. This isn't a problem in of itself, but I get the feeling I missed something.
So was there a movie or the like as a more detailed set up or is this just how the show roils.

Half the time Omega doesn't even get into a fighting stance and just stands there with limp arms in bland, empty environments with really poor framing and camera work that fails to create that illusion of giants. My interpretation was that Omega didn't want them to cause more damage or die wandering like the female, so he took them both back to the hole for their safety and also a proper "burial" to the female monster. Also I guess it avoids making the male monster rampage if he just tossed the dead female at him or whatever.
It's still kind of humanitarian. Though Omega is only now considering that approach.
