How come King Gainer doesn't get talked about compared to Tomino's other works? It may not be as good as his pre-Victory era, but it still had a lot going for it. Was it the early aughties digital color scheme that filtered folks? Or was it because it appealed more to video gamers than it did trad mecha fans? Maybe the lack of a Tomino kill count- Actually no, Daitarn and Brain Powerd debunk that.

because its shit and retarded, and Tomino puts retarded shit in it.

like Gainer is like supposed to be a super gamer pilot shit that he pilot and destroy his enemies in the game and in a mech at the same time. thats fucking retarded, even Jinki portrayed someone very mecha otaku turned mech pilot better.

the only reason King Gainer gained any notoriety is because Tomino is in it and the animmation is a little nicer than other anime. the sakuga is shit and action pieces are shit.

It's probably one of his least watched show. Probably cause there's no immediate catch attached to it like his other shows.

not as 'will make me think about watching it' catchy as these other shows.
Zambot - Human bombs, start of Kill 'em all
Ideon - Ending
Xabungle - Comedy show
Dunbine - Isekai mecha
L-gaim - Basis for Nagano's FSS, proto-Zeta
BP - Tomino's supposed answer to Evangelion

People don't like Ghibli-like

Unfortunately people only know Tomino for Gundam (and also Ideon, but that’s mainly due to its reputation). King Gainer was the start of Tomino moving away from his "kill 'em all" style and wanted his works to reflect that following Turn-A. It’s why, when he redid Zeta for A New Translation- he changed the ending to be more hopeful and optimistic.

Gainer was too esoteric and comedic for Gundam fans as it was more following in Xabungle’s footsteps, and its Euro/France sci-fi aesthetics and Ghibli artstyle probably didn’t gel with Otaku audiences. Especially since SEED started airing the same year.

Probably some of the most varied collection of imaginative mechanical designs in a single show, and the premise is immediately mysterious, along with its eccentric cast, you'd think it would have the appeal that a lot of JRPGs, like FFX, had at the time

King Gainer is the Proto-Reconguista. All the same plot flow problems but without the Gundam name. At least, that's what I got from the 12 episodes I watched

it really kick off in the second half, and the confession episode was the finest piece of cinema I have ever seen. It still keeps it silliness all throughout tho
