Here's a HG GM II I worked on earlier this year that I entered in two different local competitions, I won a HG Jesta in one and HG Aerial in the other. I usually spam preshades on all my builds but its always just light colors on top of black or lighter colors on top of the same color (light blue on top of dark blue). This time I used green as a base coat and a mixture of yellow+white+green as the post-shade and it really makes the colors pop, makes all my other preshade builds look dull, I feel like my eyes have been opened to a new world of shading

Knife work is fucky sometimes. I wish I outright knew the proper techniques for consistency. Sadly, it feels like all you get are safety lectures when trying to look up anything involving hobby knives or razors aimed at people who have never picked up a knife before.
I'm getting better just through feeling things out, but it's an annoying process of figuring out blade angles, pressure, and direction. Paired with the fun wildcard of how each color of plastic has a different internal composition to deal with.

Added some thrusters to the legs to assist in strafing movements and scratch built a saber handle. I also customized the gun a bit. The idea is that it fires in a wide, close range cone.

Been thinking about painting a Mk1 Psycho gundam. Im not sure how difficult it would be to paint the one I have assembled vs just getting a new one and doing it fresh. I was looking at pic related for inspiration and I have two questions:
What's the best way to get the different metallic shades in the joints and hands? Even the verniers have a different shade on them, but I'm not sure sure if those will be metallic silver yet. The armor will be matt as opposed to metallic, so I'll still have to take all that off.

it's really not in my experience. even on non-snapfit kits you have a connection peg/hole to work with, just dib a bit of extra thin superglue into the guide hole with an applicator and it spreads out across the connection area when you press the parts together same as with cement

Yeah that's kinda what I was going for with the gun. The saber is one I quickly made out of a runner while I look for one I can borrow from something else without it being noticeable. I have also since darkened the gun a good bit and made it look a little dirty. The ultimate goal is to make it look kinda thrown together, rather than it being something which looks like it was intentionally produced the way it is. Sort of like someone got their hands on a guncannon and decided to hotrod it into a more close quarters combat mobile suit.

It is possible to glue PS to ABS if you reinforce the connection with pegs. While both of them are not compatible, the glue/cement will still act as an adhesive.

The front skirts severely restrict the movement of the legs. Usually not a big issue but the Exia was supposed to have human-like range of movement in the lore so.

The new Avalanche RG doesn't fix that either. There's also a third party add on that turns the base RG Exia into the Avalanche variant. Pic related. It comes with the Anti-Ship Sword that the Bandai version lacks for some reason.

for UC there are for sazabi, sinanju, nu ver ka, hi nu ver ka

for Unicorn I'm not sure, I've seen in aliexpress listings of metal parts for the MB Banshee only but I have not really search specifically for unicorn stuff

Alright Gundam Plutone (Yasen Model Bootleg).

Great kit, very pleasantly surprised. Articulation is somewhat limited by the power transfer "cables" (rubber bands) but that's an inevitability of this design. I don't mind it.

I'm trying to get into painting slowly and one thing people say is topcoat alone looks good and will take away the toy plastic look. However when I looked up various videos, I see some people separating each piece and topcoating it like paint and other videos where people just topcoat already assembled models. Does topcoat not damage the soft gray plastic like enamel and other paints will?

Most spray can topcoats are lacquer based so they won't really hurt plastic. The solvents are pretty mild.
Either method is fine but you'll use a lot more of your topcoat if you do each piece individually. A lot of people will lie and say that topcoated plastic looks bad but it's pretty much the same. I regularly hide topcoated parts in painted builds and not a single person has ever noticed.
Painting is very fun though so I think you should try it.

If you're panel lining bare plastic, do it before the topcoat. Make sure to spray a light layer of topcoat first to seal the panel lining, then do whatever you'd like afterwards. If you're panel lining painted parts they should be glossy. If you have a careful hand you can do it on non gloss surfaces but it won't flow into the lines easily.

I found a spare gundam 2.0 shield and I think it really brings it together as a close combat guncannon. Shame the star on the shield was a bit busted. I think the idea I am going to go with is that it's what would have happened if the feddies continued guncannon development but decided to still go with the close combat prototype idea.
