Holy shit wing really filters the plebs. Treize was the main person in the Romerfeller foundation putting his foot down when they were going to far with automatizing the Military going forward. Zechs, was literally a freedom the fighter whole show, dude even help the oppressed colonies fight to free themselves from the Romerfeller control, won them their indepedence, and got rightfully mad that after just winning and being able to just drop it their, those fuckers decide they want revenge and do the exact shit they were just at war with the romefeller's with. Again was literally about how everyone wants world peace and say war is bad, yet they don't truly understand the true value of peace and the weight of the cost it would take to achieve it. The only people in the show who did was Zechs, Former prince of a pacificist, neutral nation, who was raised to despise everything about war, and then bregrudenly had to engage in war to liberate his conquer home country, only for it to be taken over again, because he had to be shown through Relena's struggling to lead the nation, that just saying "we are neutral, we want no part in wars" doesn't work, and Treize, the guy who appreciates war so much he believes he couldnt really live in a world with out it, because Treize isn't a shallow war monger, collecting ranks to rise his career for power, Treize understands deeply the rammifications of what wars can have, and believes that if wars should happened, they need to be fought earnestly by mankind directly so that mankind learns and grows from the experience.

To add to this, they weren't prolonging the war they establishing total control over earth and space. It's when they got total control and Romerfeller wanted to implement more use of Mobile Treize decided to back down because Mobile dolls would make battles unnessecary, War would lose it's meaning. You fight wars to end them, sides fight battles to fight and convey your stance kinetically until one side decisively bests the other and the other concedes. What decides that is ultimately the loss of life. It's bad enough if one side has access to army of unmanned mechs at their disposal, but then you remember that Zechs and his group got a hold of mobile dolls too. With out Zechs and Treize being the main voices againsts this shit you would have a war that would essentially never because neither side would have reason to or way quit, not even disabling the other sides Mobile Doll production would be enough to stop such a war from getting out of hand.

Treize's charisma warping everyone's perception of him both in-universe and IRL is pretty neat.
He's so charismatic that Wufei outright doubted his own goals and joined the villain faction in Endless Waltz.
The Gundam fandom remembers him for reading the names of dead soldiers and his speeches about the human spirit, rather than assassinating Relena's father during peace talks and giving Heero suicidal guilt from tricking him into killing innocent people to incriminate the colonies.

Kind of. Romefeller/Oz got spooked because the Alliance was becoming increasingly open to the idea of peace with the colonies not forcibly subjugating them. This would end the conflict between earth and space that Oz wanted(and instigated initially) to use as the basis for their coup and takeover of the Alliance. The Gundam pilots are then bamboozled into killing the Pro-Peace alliance leaders. This reignites the earth vs space sentiment globally, and creates enough of a power vacuum in the Alliance military, that they can pull off their Coup.

Almost immediately after that, Treize has his falling out with Romefeller over Tuberov and Durmeils intention to move to the Mobile dolls. So Treize quits. Which ironically prompts even more fighting because Oz immediately has a civil war between Treize loyalists standing up for his ideals, and the Romefeller loyalists.

I'm at episode 4, watching Wing for the first time. Its so nice seeing a series so unimpactful. After going through Tomino's Gundam and everything that came before this, it feels like i am watching cocomelon. I don't need to care about the weight of the actions of characters or about their dialogue. I really hope the creator didn't take Wing seriously because that would be very very sad

He had no problems with that at the time because he had thought his plans through and had realized it was the fastest means to the end, with the least overall bloodshed. He also memorized the names of every last person sent to their demise because of his decision. He fully understands the weight of his decisions.
