>>23417355>>23417364Hahahaha oh man
This is funny
So I feel like my approach to Anime in general started kind of detached from traditional fandoms and fandom cultures.
I knew memes like "best girl/worst girl", I knew about the Asuka vs. Rei debates, but because of the way I approached anime I never *really* participated in any of that culture. Even only until recently, like in the past 6 years, have I started watching seasonal stuff and actively participating in current discussions, and even then I don't tend to feel strongly about characters. If I do I usually focus on characters I strongly like.
So I feel like my approach to anime has been kind of detached. I've accepted most of the stuff I stuck with and watched without feeling very passionate *dislike* about any characters.
Ranka might be the first character to pull visceral and irrational dislike out of me. I cannot explain why: something about her character design drives me up the wall.
Might also be overuse of Aimo in the story - felt like there were at least 5 climactic moments in episodes where Ranka singing Aimo was the crux, and that might contribute to my problem with her.
It's a strange feeling, because I didn't start hating her until about halfway, maybe a little more than halfway into the season. And I can't put my finger on exactly why.
Maybe just "not my type of girl" but I've never come across a character so "not my type" before.
Could get more into this it's just funny that these are the first posts
>>23417419So is the rest of the Macross series this kind of thing, the singer/performer stories juxtaposed with the mecha?
And where should I start if I wanted to really get into the series (if not just release order)
