OP you encountered the local schizo, Duel is a local strawman for anyone that is not in the umbrella of Imagawa, Universal Century Gundam, VOTOMS, Patlabor, Rayearth, Gunbuster, Godannar, and Macross.

I really hate western mecha, especially retro stuff like this. They're all so ugly and stupid looking. Even to this day it's extremely rare for a western person to good at drawing mecha.
Back in the 1980s, First Comics published a series called Dynamo Joe that looks pretty cool. I only know about its existence because John Ostrander wrote the first three issues.

I feel like it's the difference between "this story needs a robot, so I guess I'll draw a sort of robot" and "holy shit robots are the coolest, I'm going to spend years cultivating the imagery of robots". Ironically a toyetic design is a plus there, you're refining a design over and over based on feedback.
There's still some bangers though. I'd love to find scans of this one.

I think it's just some shit to intentionally shit up a dead board
/m/ is probably the most succesfully shat to death board I've seen, no one is happy.

Big Guy was good. Fox animation was really putting out banger shows that shouldn't have been good but were somehow amazing. "Here's a tie in to a will smith movie, here's a multi ethnic revival of ghostbusters" all terrific shows. They made 98 American Godzilla cool as shit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1b2CtgkwJQA

I loved all those cartoons growing up but I never revisited them. They all had amazing alien, ghost and monster designs which is how Godzilla ended up so good. That cartoon and the Hannah Barbera one got referenced in fucking Singular Point of all things. The guy who posted this even missed the Komodithrax tail. So you know they must have sat down and rewatched it too.

This is barely /m/ but Cybersix was amazing and feels like it was inspired by Kamen Rider. Experiment from Nazis escapes and becomes a vigilante. That was one of my favourite weird ass cartoons from back then that had no right being so good. Oh wait I forgot about the giant mecha circus episode. She fights giant kaiju a lot too. By kicking it with her high heels shit was great.
I watched Symbionic Titan recently and it was great. It really didnt deserve to be a tax write off and canceled. I actually found Japanese fan art of it too which makes me happy it actually reached the country that inspired it.

Fil Barlow was the name of the creature designer on both Extreme Ghostbusters and Godzilla
>>23426043
Samurai Jack has a lot of robots including a giant one so it gets an honorable mention but I wouldn't exactly call it a mecha show. I loved Genndys Clone Wars which had Grievious too which was pretty great.

I've been putting this stuff for years, I should watch it already
It came out when I started feeling bored and tired of TV, not knowing some of the last good stuff was still airing

2bf I like it when mechs can't turn their head much, but they can turn their face. FSS does it. Lets you have big head designs while still being able to look around.

Honestly kinda insane that the US could've made high budgeted action cartoons but chose not to

iirc they pretty much bankrupted the studio, so there are soild reasons why most animation shops anywhere ever don't do that, amazing as the results turned out
>>23433992
Here's one, iirc it was also made by the crew of the Red Ronin but they were betrayed and it was stolen by an associate who, decided to use its incredible power to steal shit
>>23434792
Nice. I wonder what more they would hypothetically add
Korra was a trash heap but I can't say the mechs were the worst part of it. At least not the earlier rustbucket tank tread ones that could fit in the first series
>>23444970
I got no fucking idea, I didn't finish Korra.
They have some normal mecha tanks and suits that make some sort of sense. But the Colossus was to transport the spirit cannon after the not!Schwerer Gustav got busted or something. Which I'm not sure is more practical

I distinctly remember Mercury getting a figure back during DC's 75th anniversary toyline. Also how I fond out Scarecrow became a member of the Sinestro Corps, oddly enough.
