Started really strong with the first 5 episodes (the ones where they put the team together) lost itself with a boring and ripetitive middle part (destroy the orbital cannon twice?) returns to being kino in the final battle with the fantastic return of the Exia.

Perhaps the same could be said of all Sunrise shows.

Who fucking knows? Might as well have been a different show entirely.

One thing I like about the second season is that Celestial Being started at the opposite end of the power scale compared to season one. Like in the first season they hit the ground running and didn't stop till like halfway into the season. Fighting against three forces who were completely taken by surprise and woefully outclassed in the tech department. In season two they start with an unstable upgrade, a super soldier who isn't super anymore and a sniper who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Only Tieria remained competent throughout. Tieria a good boy. They were up against one unified force, which was fully prepared for shenanigans and had an army of machines that could take on the gundams and win.

What? Lyle was really good. He had to remind himself to hold back in order to try and trick Celestial Being into thinking he was an amateur.

I even recall someone on the bridge crew commenting about how good he was in one of his early episodes.

I must've remembered it wrong then. I had him filed away as Lockon but worse.

Lyle claims to only have experience operating civilian workloaders but his simulator testing reveals he's so far above average that it's silly writing. That and every time he's had to snipe something as part of a mission like Memento Mori's core, he pulled it off without a problem.

>>23425236
It's absolutely a thing that Cherudim was less sniping focused but that's also more just the times changing and CB intentionally changing the newer Gundams for greater general purpose ability and firepower, since their experience in S1 told them that although their Gundams were well specialized for their specific roles, they got screwed over a lot if they had to split up their forces (they often sent Gundams to Earth for specific operations) and if the enemies managed to corner the Gundams and pin them down separately (e.g., HRL almost capturing Tieria, the whole Taklamakan desert training operation, and during the last couple of fights against the UN GN-X forces).

The show stopped being about anything and just became action schlock, but without any of the fun characters like Code Geass season 2

They used most of their budget on season 1 and ran out of story ideas, but then they remembered the success of Zeta Gundam's story and decided to resurrect Saachez so the off-brand Titans don't get stale as quickly. They also turned all the suits into basic shapes for cheaper animation.

They made Feldt hot though so that's a positive.

He was a good sniper, but not as good as his brother although still good enough to be more than sufficient for CB's needs. He was however an even better gunslinger than sniper, he out draws and kills Ali despite Lyle having his guard down which shows where his real talents were and why Zabanya was built for that. Neil meanwhile was a sniper through and through even on foot. But Lyle was still a capable sniper he wasn't bad at it. That's like saying Mikazuki was bad at shooting because he always resorted to beating the shit out of his enemies when in fact he was always shown to be very accurate, he was just better at beat downs.

Japanese gunota hated the first one so they fell back on old tropes and brought in Amuro to smooth things over.

>resurrect Saachez
He was in he S1 epilogue. I still contend that he was originally going to be he main villain until thry had to retool S2. Ribbons was a decoy (what better way to set up your decoy than making it look like someone else was a decoy for him?).

in the S1 end credits for the last episode, they intentionally showed an awkward frame that zoomed in on his arm holding a drink and only showed his shoulder and bottom half of his face, but it's pretty much him. the only thing you could maybe claim at the time before S2 aired was that it could be a clone of him or maybe a similar looking family member, but it's normal for a teaser to not reveal everything right away

I think it's due to Sunrise and Bandai often interfering in the work after the end of Season 1, changing anime slots or demanding plot changes based on incorrect feedback (they easily go into panic mode for no reason, like in Season 2 of 00... too different gundam bullshit) or due to incompetence on the part of higher-ups.
Iile, due to the success of Season 1, Code Geass was moved to a different slot, completely ruining the work; because with that new schedule, they could no longer show certain things.

honestly 00 works better if you ignore the existence of Season 2 and AoT and just treat Season 1 as a standalone work, only real flaw about this is it makes all the scenes focused around the princess character completely pointless instead of mostly pointless, but it probably wouldn't be too hard to edit all of her scenes out and not have it meaningfully effect anything else for Season 1

Even if you end with S1, you still 'need' Marina reading Setsuna's letter as the capstone of his shortened character arc l. Maybe he could send the letter to someone else, but I don't think it would work with a regular civilian like Saji or someone already within CB like Feldt (who doesn't really interact with Setsuna in S1).

They should have used a better idea to "revive" Lockon instead of his secret twin brother. Also the characters of Marie and Allelujah were even more terrible. The plot of Setsuna and Tiera were surprisingly ok.

He wasn't a secret since he was first shown around the middle of s1.

I wish he had been an antagonist though, rather than outright replacing Lockon's position. Especially on a meta level, it's fucked up they're basically treated as the same character (even if in the story they clearly aren't... but their role is still kept close enough that's possible).

Yeah man showing the back of his head for a single scene really makes the entire reveal not disgustingly retarded and shitty.

But that was also just them getting played like a damn fiddle. Only difference was that the old man was sleeping in a box on the moon and thus couldn't be all smug about it like Ribbons.

Yeah but them getting played was also part of the political drama, the S2 just pivots and tells us everything is gonna be fine if we just kill the evil robot illuminati
And then thats exactly what happens

The failed to give Nena a redemption arc and spent less time on the political intrigue between each superpower or the tension within the new united government.v
