【Breaking News】
>Shin Godzilla, currently in expanded release in the U.S., grossed approximately $2.3 million (about ¥340 million) during its opening weekend!

>During its initial release in 2016, it earned $2.8 million over a month, but this time it has nearly matched that amount in just the opening weekend!

Did you guys go watch the best modern godzilla movie in theaters?

Saw it originally twice and watched it a bunch of times since then. Didn't know it was back in theaters. Might go see it again tomorrow just for the heck of it. It's definitely one of my favorites, though the original is still the top and Minus One follows closely behind (man do I hope the sequel doesnt screw it all up).

I liked Shin well enough, though I get the cultural significance I wasn't the biggest fan of the ending.

Also, weird side note but I swear there were scenes cut from the initial release that didn't make it to the various releases after. I could have sworn there were more scenes involving the politics behind the attacks and the aftermath but when I watched it again with some friends I would constantly be thrown off expecting scenes that just weren't there. Can't prove a thing though.

You may be thinking of deleted scenes.

I'd agree but the only deleted scene I ever watched was the one in which the army was finding various gore from Godzilla that were beginning to evolve.

Its funny because back in the day I could recall the scenes vividly and where they were supposed to be, but now I just remember that they were mostly contextual scenes and relatively boring at that. I always figured they were cut to increase the pace of the movie, but nobody ever can verify that there was a different cut of the movie shown in theaters. Could just be a weird false memory, but I don't wanna betray myself in case it does come out some day that there was an obscure theatrical cut that has become lost media or something.

I'm just hoping for there to be a good subtitle release eventually.

Was glad to see Shin in theaters again. Watching bureacrats fumble was way more fun this fime around, since instead of being a dumb college student I'm now a dumb adult who's actually had to live through inane office politics. Peak black comedy material, especially when keeping in mind Anno was evoking the Fukushima response.

It's either deleted scenes or something you misremember, there is no "extended cut" or anything of the sort.

I can prove it. I have two copies of the movie on my harddrive, one has a runtime of 2 hours and the other is 1h:40m. The shorter one was downloaded a couple weeks after the movie was released and the longer one is from the BluRay. I like the longer one better.

The movie is 2 hours long, are you sure you didn't download a botched copy?
Anonymous No.23461881 >>23461884 >>23464504
>>23461863
Not sure what you mean by botched. The 1:40 version is edited coherently and the story is completely understandable. The BluRay just has more political commentary. For instance, in the beginning when the government is trying to figure out what they are dealing with and they keep switching conference rooms, the longer version has more dialog and a few longer scenes of people setting up at conference tables. My copy of the shorter version has burned in English subs, I really have no idea what the actual source is. It's not a cam recording, but I got it a month or two after release in 2016. I suspect it is what was played in US theaters. The file was named Godzilla Resurgence and that seems to track with what's on Wikipedia:

I remember this, it was a webrip from some Asian airline service IIRC. The uploader cut out twenty minutes of the film for some bizarre reason (maybe he found the talking parts boring?). The camrip is exactly the same as the home media releases, barring the updated VFX.

>some bizarre reason
Oh wow that's super interesting! This seems basically impossible to verify but I would love to find a source on that. If it was cut for an airline it maybe it's because they need run times to be a certain length for an in-flight movie? The editing on the cut version is really good, there is nothing important lost. The only thing is that Yaguchi's relationship to the press has some missing context. Thanks for that info. I've never seen the camrip to compare.

Now that I think about it, I /might/ be mixing it up with Shin Ultraman since that was a webrip as well. I thiiink I remember people also theorizing that it might've been leaked from a theater? I'll try digging around the archives to jolt my memory.

Another incredible film. Seen it twice in the theater and a dozen times at home.

no i remember hearing the in-flight rip story for shin g too and definitely not ultraman, back when it first premiered there weren't as many places to see it in the US so a lot of people had to watch that instead

>No one remember shit from 8 years ago

When the movie got released internationally in 2017 there was a troll leaked cut that was shorter then the theatrical and had questionable music choices, like that one restaurant music cue that played a little bit after the destruction of Tokyo, that some sperggy troll on YT keep spergin about because he didn't saw the movie in theaters.

It should be noted that the original theatrical Mexican dub is now quasi lost media because only a low quality camera capture of the audio was synced to the fucking troll short leaked cut! And no one has ever been able to track down neither the full original Screencam capture of the original Latino dub, let alone leaked the original DCP audio back when it was in theaters, remember that the Latino dub on streaming platforms is a shitty redub done on another country.

Minus One had the same issue when the theatrical dub was made only for theaters and on Netflix a new dub based on the infamous Netflix English dub was made, but then some beanerbro stole a DCP of the theatrical dub and ripped off and leaked in on the web, the only problem is that he gave it to the phsyco leftist tr00nie SpaceHunterM who gatekeeps everything and goes after people if they leak shit
