What was this game called? If I remember correctly you could see your boobs and destroyed limbs as you fall on your back when you die?

is there even a single western indie game that has good mecha design work? for some reason it's impossible for them to just have appealing designs, even with all the easily accessible inspiration out there

Mecha does cover almost anything mechanical, we exclude some only because they have their own boards.
As for mechanized walkers there are few mech games to begin with.
It's hard to even define a mech game beyond it having units that look the part. There's no gameplay associated to it except maybe needing to push more button to do basic actions.

Where is my Patlabor-like mecha game with Mudrunner level physics?
Where is my Metal Gear game on a map as big as Nuclear Option?
Who do I have to throw my money at to get a game of exoskeleton cops operating in a O'neill space station or in Lunar cities?

if heavy gear 3 is any good you'll get some large map stealth VOTOMs content but not on the scale of nuclear option
that would be rad tho, i like your taste anon

Western sensibilities are just incompatible with good mecha design. It's always as it everything has to be offensive to your senses and never ever boost your morale.

Watch or read tutorials on how to draw mecha, between different nationalities, and you'll really notice what I mean.
Fucking funnily actual western humanoid robots tend to look infinitely better than whatever unpilotable garbage they try to pass as "cool" in their media.

Not really, only the mechanical that's unconventional for 20th century standards

Pacific Rim Jaegers are pretty fucking cool.

And yes, I get they're inspired by eastern designs, still cool western mechas though.

Western mech designs suck because of how overly militarized they are, they treat mechs like they’re meant to be tanks which is a severely limited view.

All mecha are to some degree, except maybe pulp scifi ones like Iron Giant.

No thanks.
While I don't mind using wheels as some kind of altternate move method, it's usually used for the same reason as "constant hovering mech", to simplify shit, making another boring game.
And at least VOTOM is creative with how it uses skating.
But stuff like Heavy Gear or Front Mission? They just glorified tank that sometime do CQC.

Heavy gear operates in pretty much the exact same way votoms does. The few times they've been animated, they're extremely mobile and flexible. Front mission gets a pass for being stiff because it's a tactics series, it doesn't change as much there.
