I read the Beltrochika's Children manga and I would like to talk about it (spoilers ahead)

1- for the most part, it's waaaay better than the CCA movie, apart from the ending
2- I'm actually shocked to see Hi-Ni Gundam being so weak here.. like it jobbed most of the time, unlike how Nu beat the fuck out of Sazabi so easily
3- I loved Char character here. he was menacing, evil, and meant business. unlike his pathetic version in the movie.
4- Beltrochika really needed to be in the movie instead of Chan. she had more character and backstory with Amuro than Chan. the emotional factor was stronger here.
5- The Ending with the baby going messiah is retarded. such a shame because the story was great but ended in such a lame way. the Axis Shock in the movie is better.
6- Why is it called Beltrochika's Children, when it was only 1 unborn kid?

1. Hi-Nu is just Nu Gundam with some extra funnel racks that look like wings. There's no major performance difference between them.

2. Nightingale is a Monster. It's leagues above Sazabi in strength. From a narrative stand point it's supposed to represent Char's resolve. Like you said

>he was menacing, evil, and meant business.

Nightingale was the same way.

Yeah, far as I remember the Hi-Nu isn't any kind of upgraded model, just an alternate design from MSV.

In the BC novel and manga I don't even think it's referred to as the Hi-Nu, just the Nu Gundam, which probably means they just had to name it something else in MSV for clearer distinction.

So Tomino is never letting that messiah baby from Ideon go is he?

False. Your literacy level is unflexible. Plot coomer.

Actually, the enhanced performance bit came exactly alongside the name Hi-Nu Gundam when they reused the design as a MSV. But, yeah, in the novel (and the manga adaptation which stayed close to the novel) it's never called Hi-Nu and isn't particularly impressive.

Even the MSV just gave vague terms about it having a higher reactor output or being the successor to the Nu Gundam, but when its stats are published fully it just reuses the Nu Gundam's. The fame of the Hi-Nu as a high performance suit comes almost entirely from games where it generally coexists with the Nu-Gundam, but it's just better in every way.

BC is strictly worse version of CCA except for Hi Nu and especially Nightingale.
Remake CCA with Origin-like animation and these suits and it's the best thing Tom Ino could ever make

Why do I want more stupid Gundam magazine covers now? Haman WOULD absolutely rent out an entire city for her wedding.

Nu > Hi-Ξ½
Nightingale > Sazabi
I hate the Hi-Ξ½ color scheme, and I love that the Nightingale is a combo of the two suits that kicked Char's ass in Zeta.

Funny enough in Mobile Suit Gundam Pulitzer the hi-nu was even alluded to as a potential successor to the nu but was cancelled after the end of the second neo zeon war and char and amuro’s disappearance. Was never built but apparently has the same design and higher specs compared to the Nu

I agree that BC is a better rendition of events, especially as portrayed in the manga. It's sorta cheating though as the manga has more time to breath and setup the events whereas the movies drops you in the middle of the ordeal more or less and feels a little disoriented especially coming off of how Char was in Zeta Gundam. I also strongly agree that Beltorchika > Chan. Beltorchika feels like the logical conclusion of Amuro's whole character arc, where he would end up with a girl he likes and starting a family. Chan just feels like a random girl and Amuro is still fucking around aimlessly, it actively hurts his character progression imo and makes the story less meaningful.

Idk if this canon or not but I've heard it described that the Hi-Nu is basically the Nu Gundam that is fully refined and finished, which is why the design looks so clean, whereas the Nu we see in CCA was a rush job that has the same performance, but is less refined. That's how I've always viewed it. Had Anaheim had a little more time they would have constructed the Nu in a less cludged way this resulting in the Hi-Nu design. The Nightingale on the other hand I think is explicitly stated as being superior to the Sazabi but in the CCA timeline it was either to complicated and/or to expensive to get to Char in time so it was scrapped in favor of the Sazabi, but canonically it does exist within the potential MS Char was gonna pilot

And in MOON char did have a proto sazabi that had inferior performance and was atmospheric only, so it’s possible that feedback would go into the Nightingale had it been made

A huge loss.
It's 'the line' of the film, directly succeeding the father figure conversation regarding Quess by Char and Amuro.
The missing piece preventing Char-Nanai relationship to work.
It affirms the theme of 'lofty idealism and lashing out of politicians being driven by their human shortcomings.'
It makes Char look very pathetic and undignified during his final moments, which just makes him a way better character in my eyes.
God, I love CCA so much.

I appreciate your response but this feels like a retcon to me. Imagine someone coming along later on and say the original RX-78 was a rush job. That it was actually meant to have more armor, more guns, and even wings. But was rushed into combat because Zeon was winning. That this Gundam was was Super RX-78 and the Federation just never had time to finish it.

It's rather insulting to the story and that's how it feels when I hear about Hi-Nu Gundam and fans obsessing over the "Funnel rack" that's 'supposedly' missing on Nu Gundam.

i think the important part of it is that it makes him feel HUMAN
in his final moments he exposes his innermost pathetic self, the thing that he could never truly bury, even to the point he was still bringing lalah up in zeta while he was trying his best to be someone else
in that moment he's at his most real, but in typical char fashion it was at the point it was far too late to ever try and fix
now of course amuro dying as essentially just a spectator to char's meltdown without even talking about his own problems is something i'm not so keen on, but i suppose there's a point to be made about him having gotten over most of his own issues by then

I like the parallel of a son trying to fufill his father's vision as justification for his evil fighting a fatherwho has no such lofty ideals but is making a better world for his son.

I like the BC version of Char because, yes he acknowledged Lalahs death, but he's more m:

>"Fuck this Federation government. They are useless and don't honor their promises. I gave them a chance during Zeta to make positive changes. They lied. They need to go."

Char in BC is much more based and determined.

I don't think Amuro ever gets over whatever problem he has, if he does Lalah wouldn't be able to live rent free in his dreams. But Tomino kinda paid less attention on his emotional state after MSG. I mean there's scene of Char in CCA reminiscing about their fight between him-Amuro-Lalah in OYW and him wishing Lalah to guide him. Amuro doesn't have that kind of internal monologue in CCA. It's a bit better in novels (both high-streamer and BCC), although I'm also not a fan with how Tomino wrote Amuro there
