Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

I've heard there's ways to kind of "convert" a Mr. Hobby Gloss color into a Flat (matte/satin) color by mixing something in them? How well or consistent are the results?

I dont have an issue with my kit, but it IS an outlier of all other MG kits lacking that double jointed elbow. It's WEIRD, it reminds me of how the 2.0 zeta does it's arm connections, but even that has that second joint at a slightly smaller size
while I do suspect it was initially meant to be the re100 kit, it fits together much nicer than something like the Jegan or Alex which have some issues with exterior parts not securing in properly with a flimsy mold so they like to raise up a bit
again I love my jegan I am the UCow that bought the stark and despite being a bit reserved on the Alex 2.0's design the suit itself is more an over the top inner-frame for the lovingly built chobham armour

It's not weird, it's just not necessary for the design at all. I think Katoki might add some random new shit or forgotten shit to it like he always does. The appearance of the FAZZ and FA ZZ Gundam has additional differences outside of what you described when comparing the original 80s art. Katoki did add back in the non-traditional vulcan guns to the ZZ that was present in the original head, so he might adapt some more of what's going on here like the alternate shoulder missile pods. Maybe he's found a way to include the fore arm wings into the armor so that when the outer armor is purged like in the show, they are still on the ZZ' body. Or I'm sure there's some random MSV page floating out there that has some obscure rough drawing of a feature that only hardcore fans remember exists like the Sazabi's long rifle or that Hi-Nu Gundam had a polka dotted shield.
