Big O Thread
Showtime!

Made this because I finished watching the show not too long ago. I quite enjoyed it, I liked the noir bits. I didn't really get the ending and reading after that it and s2 were studio mandated it did feel that way in retrospect but like I said overall I quite liked it

You weren't supposed to get it. Big O is a show where the writers never intended to reveal the mystery or give it an ending, so when forced to do both as a condition of making the second season, they just made it as nonsensical as possible so that basically nothing concrete was actually revealed, preserving the integrity of their vision

The world of Big O was a giant simulation. IE what Chiaki Konaka always winds up writing about.

It's a good show, imagine if it lasted for 10 seasons

It's braver about this in many ways than other shows in similar situations (e.g. the horrible second half of Twin Peaks S2), in that it's very clear that the meta-reasons for understanding the end of the show's world can't be fully understood from within that world, i.e. from what the viewer sees.

I mean I watched Digimon Tamers and Ultraman Gaia and neither of them were really about that

So how does the digital release of the manga look?

To be fair David Lynch being forced to reveal the killer was a lot more specific than what Konaka and the other guys had to write. And the reveal and finale was still amazing it was just the middle part where Lynch left that was bad. And then everything went full Big O mystery and beyond in the Return. And even the movie but that might have been different if it got the planned sequels.

Anyways I didnt realize it till now Big O is basically the closest thing /m/ has to Twin Peaks.

...you seriously think Digimon isn't about a simulated reality?
Anonymous No.23480005
>>23479725
Honest question and I'm not that guy but does a simulation just mean a visual representation of the internet, cyberspace, computer network etc? Because Digimon was always a blend of a parallel fantasy world and cyberspace. Sometimes cyberspace was very minimal. I forget how the lore goes exactly and reading about it for Tamers at 4am just confused me.

The fuck was the third world though?

Digimon is basically just an isekai series with a mild technological veneer. There's nothing existential about it except in Cyber Sleuth. EDEN is a legit simulated VR world, but it's also outside the scope of Konaka's work

What did you think of the episode where Dan remembered that movie he saw as a kid?

That has to be one of the best episodes in the series. That ending always makes me get teary-eyed.

did dagon/leviathan/behemoth have pilots or were they fully autonomous? Ibwas always curious to learn if the bigs were created to fight these three and others like them in a skynet-like rogue warbot scenario, or if they were just a different type of megadeus present during whatever war destroyed most lf human civilization.

I didn't mean to attack Lynch, just the hacks who took over from him. The "mystery" of Twin Peaks was still there after the killer was revealed, and they did a terrible job with it until Lynch came back and managed to keep the mystery alive in his own way.

Agree with you on Big O as /m/ Twin Peaks, right down to the Americana setting. Maybe that's one reason I like it so much.
