Code RAPID
Thoughts? Seems like Armored Core 6 at home.
if anyone got the patreon playtest, could do a nice thing

the mecha designs and animations are way too human
this is a design consequence of AC6's easy to learn, lacking in driving pleasure gameplay philosophy

I agree with the light designs, but Gundams literally move like humans. The RX-78-2 literally does backflips in the air against some gouf grunts a few episodes after the Ramba Ral fight

so here's the thing I do actually really want a mecha game without shit like the fucking ground permaboosting and instead the mechs are super acrobatic ninjas like evangelion but it's still a super smooth high mobility game, but I know that will never happen because unironically AC6 did in fact poison the well and make every mech an armored core/gundam from now on

gundam has tons of "actual human" animations

Something I want to see more of in cockpit view games is the human element. I want to see switches flicked, gears shifting, buttons being punched! Surely adding a little of this shouldn't be too big an issue.

This is going to make a million muh grounded stompy realistic weighty homos cry out in pain, and it's good because it also looks fun.

Mecha games can and should run the full breadth of mecha media and I'm not gonna sit here and be lectured as to why it "doesn't count" by people who've never watched an anime.

>>23496204
>>23496556
The problem with many first person modes in mecha games is that they're not designed for it primarily. Pretty frequently it's just a lower FOV version, with console and bits over your screen, and you surrender all peripheral vision when they really should have side cameras. I like the way Xol is doing it, with your arms and stuff coming up past the screen. Just looks nice.
Anonymous No.23497903
>>23496764
I also played Xol and I Like what it's doing, despite the roughness of everything else

I think the most basic answer is that every dev that tried making a mecha game that let you play in first person, wasn't actually making a competent shooter.

nta but it's mostly just an animation problem. Good wheel/hoverleg designs should sway into their motions, and suddenly it makes sense why that might help them move better than a hovercar.

there hasn't been a single gundam game that actually animated anywhere near decently like that, and if you want armored core you can just go play armored core
like, you're getting humanoid limbs and barely using them for anything except swaying.

Actually now that I'm playing it, DxM2 has amazing animations for ground sliding. You really lean in on long turns and spin on short turns. I really, really hope some people take direct inspiration from this, the animations are perfect for more flexible mechs on the ground.

unless you're using hover legs, hover quads or treads, you should be bunny hopping 24/7 since AC1 to fight even remotely well. Every fucking mecha game has the permaboosting brainrot because people have this derangement syndrome where they can't imagine the mechs moving like a person despite that being the entire point.

It's pretty good. It's a z target shooter with very trailing shots and quicktime melee, which is neat, but also pretty standard for action mech games. Animations are great though. I wish the levels were a little more open and complex.
>>23512965
I recently rewatched some votoms and boy, chirico really has people get the first shot on him, they miss, and then he turns and shoots them. He can do that a dozen times in a row. He's usually not even taking cover or anything. The dude lives and breathes stormtrooper aiming.
Having someone actually dodging isn't that much less believable than someone failing to be hit by someone who got the drop on them over and over, when you think about it.

unironically a good example of inhuman speed and piloting technique, it is the speed and power of a machine that lets it skate straight up a wall and perform repeated boost-turns that would make a human skater lose their lunch
even when tipping the enemy over with their finger, the rapiddog doesn't even twist its torso to get more reach like a human would

you know it makes me so fucking mad that mecha fans and creators have gaslit themselves into imagining themselves as some sort of weird vehicle instead of just making them cool big humanoid fighters/soldiers that also happen to be vehicles

you can have both. You can have something that is treated like a machine with oil and joints and maintenance and shit while still having it kick ass

it's a false dichotomy, the big man obsessives are too scared of vehicles
look deep enough into machines and you will find human things... because they are designed by humans, designed to be used by humans. they are the progeny of humanity
