/gpg/ - Gunpla/Plamo General
-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobilephotoresizer

Build a mecha/cyborg with a visibly biological component integrated into the machine. This can include:
>Mecha that naturally have some sort of organic component to them (Evangelions, Aura Battlers, etc)
>Mecha that have organic elements attached/fused to them, willingly or otherwise
>Cyborgs, androids, and human with mechanical attachments/enhancements (Robocop, Kamen Rider, mecha musume, etc)

Send your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com with at least 5 photos of your finished build along with any WIP photos and a description of your entry.

Is there a spray booth that doesn't need to connect to a window or anything like that? My current setup is decent in terms of ventilation and I have a respirator and normal fan so fumes aren't really a problem, but I'd like to have a clean and well-lit area to paint in, especially something like a lightbox.
Thought about getting some magnifiers with a light like the dude from Toy Story but I figure having an area at least partially isolated from dust would be helpful too. Any recommendations?

I'm not painting anything in this kit, just panel lining the deep groves mostly in the gold parts

those indeed look nice, but the gold is too reddish, almost orange so it is quite different form the actual Hyakushiki

there is also the fact that the plastic they used is odd, as even spray paint does not want to stick to it so I won't even bother

I may apply a few decals (it comes with a large sheet of water slide decals too) but they are the usual ver ka autistic smallpox style of warning signs and they are mostly red, so I don't know if they will actually even be visible with the kind of gold color they used. In that case I will just use a bit of decal softener, no topcoat at all

You can get ones from hobby supply manufactures and they'll be called paint bases, or you can probably go into a pet supply store and see if they've got cat scratching cardboard if you needed a big one.

like what the anon said on the previous thread, Spectral Chrome is very grainy, so avoid it if you want a smoother look. like any other Alclad high-finish, it requires a glossy black basecoat. other alternatives are Maziora color shifting paints, or if you're budget-conscious, Armored Komodo chromaflairs.

Yeah I'd definitely want the least grainy one, so I'll give Maziora or Armored Komodo a try the one in your pic looks really smooth. Any idea how it plays with other high finishes?

I was thinking about maybe spraying it over a chrome or gold. So like gloss black primer/alclad chrome/ then holo on top of that for the rainbow effect.

watch this on how to use the armored komodo one. it's kind of a complicated process. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHOI69B66NE Maziora is straightforward, just pour into the airbrush and spray it! they even offer spraycans if you don't have an airbrush.

also, the resulting color depends greatly depending on the base coat color used. the parts on >>23505762 are painted with the same pigment, but with different base coats (top one has white basecoat, while bottom one uses black basecoat). i haven't tried using it on top of chrome or gold. it may work, but the resulting color might be different from the one intended.
